I'd much rather let my aggressions out in a creative way than let them out on others. This project has helped me through a really dark phase in my life and I am glad that I came out in one piece at the other end. No worries, I have no desire to act out what I draw or embroider. I don't even remotely relate to the comparison to someone evil. Everyone has an opinion and I am glad that so many of you enjoy the blocks.
Besides....when I get right down to it: I am nowhere in these pictures. I am not wielding any implement of destruction and I don't push or pull her into peril. Me thinks that Sue has to carry some responsibility in where she goes and what she does. There are always consequences! For the rest - it's just dumb luck. lol |
I just don't know what to say... Poor Sue. But I am impressed!
oh yes, what a sense of humor and love the clever literary/cinematic/theatrical connections...
Very funny. Love all your work.
For all of you who object, you must have at least a little morbid curiosity. Otherwise why would you read a thread titled My Mad Murder Spree - Killing Sunbonnet Sue?
Nanny's Dollface: Thank you for the perspective. I have been biting my tongue all day. I don't want to place undue emphasis on what are clever, fun, artful quilt blocks but they take a sugary young persons quilt and make it relate to the adult world. I have been at funerals where people told jokes. They were not minimizing the sorrow, they were reducing the tension. I appreciate the change of focus provided. I don't want to be deadly serious all the time.
Hate to admit it, but I love to hate Sue, yout blocks are awesome!!!
Oh! Martina, I love your madcap sense of humor. Wish I had thought of this. Thought of Sue as cute when I started quilting but no longer. Good for you.

Michigan state museum has the original quilt depicting the various stages of demise for Sue.
http://www.museum.msu.edu/glqc/colle...01.158.01.html i encourage everyone to read the history. I may not believe in what you say but I will defend you for saying it- Voltaire Read the names of the quilters. I think some of you will be surprised ........ :D |
These made me laugh so hard. You are very creative !
Now I don't know which is funnier...Martina's blocks or the responders to this thread!:D
(One does have to wonder why some of them are still reading this topic which is "so offensive.") Jan in VA |
Poor, poor Sue! These are something else. You can go to Sue's website and theres a lot of blocks with her being bad. I have always loved Sunbonnet Sue. Your's is certainly unique.
Sorry but this made me chuckle.
LOL!!! I'm not a SBS fan, but this seems toooo cruel!
love the snake... |
I love these blocks I hate the ones which are so .....pretty.
How about on the rack to stretch her or hung drawn. And quarter her as the nobles in England had done to them. They only died on the quartering after so long. The horrible histories are full of these stories which children love .keep going. |

So stinking clever!!
I can't decide what I enjoyed more.... your quilt blocks, or the titles! Both made me laugh out loud and put a smile on my face!
Martina, are you going to put it in a local show? I'd love to see it in person and buy you lunch:>
OMG! Too funny, but great imagination! lol You might try googling "cartoon images of arrows" or just "images of arrows" for ideas.

LOVE, Love, love it!! I think the people posting negative remarks have drank the media "kool aid". I think every TV show my brother made me watch in the 50's had someone killed and neither one of us grew up to be evil killers. The Rifleman alone killed on average 1.46 person per episode. I feel confident that killing off Sue will not result in mayhem and muder. Enjoy and have fun, it's sure fun for us to watch!
LOL... Love your KSBS blocks Martina!!! Can't wait to see the finished quilt.

How many ways can you kill Sunbonnet Sue? This post is like the woman who shot her boyfriend, stabbed him 27 times and then slit his throat ear to ear. Guess she had the same sense of warped humor. I find this post very disturbing and equally disturbing are the people who think it is funny. I think it sends the wrong message to our children and future quilters!!! Quilting is suppose to be positive, not evil.

Now it's Hello Kitty's turn to meet the same fate! LOL

I read Edward Gorey books to my kids! I was a fan of Edward Gorey because my grandmother thought he knew exactly how we all wanted to think at one time or another. She loved the Elliptical Bicycle story. It's my favorite too. My kids discussed that book for years as what each chapter could mean. If you like Tim Burton you will love Edward Gorey. |
I remember at my grandmother's house she had a pantry in a short hall way from dining room to kitchen. She had a curtain for a door to the pantry. It was dark in there and when we kids were acting up she would say I'm going to let the pantry troll grab you if you don't straighten up. We were all scared of the pantry troll and wouldn't go pass that curtain for anything. Even as we got older we were cautious about passing through there without thinking of the troll that was hiding and waiting to get us. LOL. That is what makes memories with every detail clear as a bell. All my sibling and cousins remember the pantry troll and knew to behave immediately. We didn't mess with Grandma. We all thought she was brave to have a troll in her pantry.
Are you entering a contest? That is quite mad.

I actually have some more ideas. The shower scene in Psycho came to mind this morning. And then I want to put her in a rough play scene with Raggedy Ann, Raggedy Andy, Strawberry Shortcake and the Sock Monkey where they have SBS by the limbs and are tearing her apart. I have no idea where these thoughts are coming from. I'm really not a violent person. hehe |
