I like your fabrics, can't wait to see that. What is a mystery quilt?
|
I am pressing the fabric for the back and I am going to toss it on the table right away. Thank you for more of the great words. Ty you tippy for yelling. It was a learning experience for sure. It was a good one, I want to do more things like this.
A mystery quilt is a mystery to those that are making it, To start with we had cutting instructions. So last night or before we cut out the pieces. (they have classes like this at some stores as well) Then the lessons begin. They tell you step by step on what to do with the pieces. and as it goes togheter the mystery is revealed, so I had no idea what I was making this morning. And this is what showed up as I went along. This can be pretty much done with any quilt. only the instructor or leader knows what the finished product will be. It was fun. |
Love the liliacs/purples/prints. You're so talented.
|
cutebuns, you should be really proud of yourself! I'm hoping to get mine done tomorrow................. We had a pretty bad storm and lost electricity tonight............. today just wasn't my day! Great job and I'm glad everything went well for someone today! :)

CB! your purple mystery turned out terrific!
YOu are a good mystery player. I have just finished the center panel and have the light squares marked ... Will be at the HSTs in the am ... Now that I have seen your quilt, I am thinking I need to put the HST at the intersections back to the original size ... I had gone in and changed my directions with a "better" plan, but even though those are small, they look pretty nice in your quilt ... and, I will see what my quilt looks like tomorrow ... (long story, <g> don't bother asking, it is a just a stupid pondering thing ...) I will probably make another one of these quilts right behind this one with a different look at charm squares, and then I may make one with eight different dark/mediums and a variety of lights, since I do own quite a few of them. I didn't get how a large print would work though ... not a problem <g> it may be just another thing to ponder for awhile! LOL |
Your quilt is amazing. Your must be exhausted! But I think it was well worth the work, because you have a beautiful quilt to show for it!
|
I so want to see everyone elses quilts that they did today, It was a bit of work, especially all those darn hst's, I thought that I would never get through them. I will write more tomorrow, I promise, I will be posting more pictures as well as it goes along the table, it is loaded and all of that but I am not picturing what to quilt on it. That is something that I am learning a lot on and I want to make another leap forward when doing this one. I could do what I have done before, but that won't teach me anything. If all goes well then it should be finding a happy home with a friend. She loves purple and she was the inspiratioini in piocking all purple for the quilt. I questioned it greatly especially since I had no idea what we were doing with it. I would only change one or two where I put them, and wouldn't you know it another purple jumped off of the shelf today after I was done. one I missed earlier.
Half of the time my quilts are sort of mysteries anyway, I know what the blocks are, i picked them, but no program or anything here and even when I draw it out I just grab a pen and do it, I don't do a lot of coloring or draw the whole thing out, I draw one block and shade it according to what they call for. So I have an idea on what it might look like. But the over all is a surprise usually, i guess I luck out on the finished product. So thank you some more for everything, I liked seeing all the comments during the day as I progressed and more now that the top is done. |
Very nice!!! Love the colors.
|
Love it.
|
Wow, it turned out absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for explaining...one day? You are a whiz!
|
LOOKING GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
So I took the books to bed and have almost decided on what to do around the borders at least, I have to run out for a bit this morning, not for a bit, but once I get going I don't want to stop. My quilting changes with my mood and I want it to be continuos all through the quilt.
I was worried that I didn't keep up near enough and after your comments I see Ididn't do as bad as I thought I did. It was a worry. When is there going to be a next one? I wouldn't mind doing more of these. Thank you again, being sort of nudged to keep going helped get it done in the time line it was. Now to see if I can do that more often without the push. |
Love those fabrics!
Can't wait to see the mystery revealed warm quilt hugs, sue |
Oh, I can't wait to see what it look like done.
|
I am now working on the first border ...
and, just wanted to add that I am doing a second sewing line on the two inch blocks that were added, in order to not have to throw away those tinier triangles that I threw away on one of the first parts .... I have decided that if the HST that results is at least an inch, then I am going to keep it .... so! when are we going to do a scrap bag exchange? anyone making doll quilts would surely love my extra work <g> And, CB! I think your quilt is very fine, and I know these quilters are not complimenting your quilt because they have nothing better to do <g> they KNOW good work when they see it. I am not a purple person myself, but I really appreciated what you did with the purple in that quilt ... I almost became a purple person! LOL |
second border completed, and now on to the HST ...
I am not sure how I am going to handle cutting down a HST that shouldn't have been that big in the first place (I am such a packrat! I HATE wasting material) but I suppose I will get through it. I should be done by this evening, but I won't be able to post pictures until tomorrow night ... have to get to town to send picture back to email via tele ... are we having fun yet??? By the way, B.Zang posted her quilt/progress on the other thread ... she has done a very nice job! and, the most exciting thing for me is that the size is perfect! When I decided to do the mystery quilt, I was telling everyone about, including some RT quilter friends ...and, I told them that I intended to give the mystery quilt to Operation 1161 - - we are making a specific size lap robe, but I figured I could either add or subtract ... these things are just not that difficult for me, so ... I am sewing away. I JUST read step seven, and there is the lap robe PERFECT size! I felt blessed, doubly, triply so, since I learned how to take pictures and post them to here, I made the quilt that I needed to make, and I made some new friends along the way .... and, thank you to my family who chipped in with all the cooking and bottle washing so I could TRY to get to my goal ... and, then ... will wonders never cease! They didn't get mad when I took my nap, and they aren't castigating me because I am a full day behind ... aren't I the spoiled one, though <g> |
Awesomw CB! What a pretty quilt - can't wait to see how you quilt it!! :D
|
i'm lurking here and smiling to myself. as each one of you 'talk', you sound like the energizer bunny, going at full speed. this project has really sparked you all up and it sounds like you're all so interested and having the time of your lives. it's very nice to listen to this. this part of the mystery has made my day.
|
This is for you Ninnie,
I have it on the table and I am getting ready to fire it up, have the border picked out, that is it, so feel free to come and drive it around the middle piece. Okay, I am having issues finding the pictures |

Here it is, the power went out when the computer was still on and it did something to the stupid thing. I will have to look at it later

It is kind of funny, I should have started on the outside border, but I took the liberty of practicing some stuff on the small one first. I hope it doesn't show as much here. So here is what I am working into the border. They are getting smoother as I go along the border.
|
The bonus part of doing it there is that it is already marked. making it easier to keep it the same size. Though that needs some work.
|
Omak, are you going to post pictures?
|
The others also have been talking over here ,
http://www.quiltingboard.com/posts/l...94.page#442019 Omak has to wait for cell phone reception to get her pictures. |

So don't laugh to hard, I definitely need to work on these. lol, I hope going down the sides they will be easier. Wow, might have to crack a cold one to get it to flow better.
|
PS that is the good one
|
Oooh, great! Can't wait to see more.

You know, Cutebuns, when you showed your fabrics and said that striped purple was your calm fabric, I thought, hm, that kind of zaps my eyes rather than calming them. However, it has been the perfect choice for your sashing and border. I am totally impressed and salaam to your widsom and colour sense.
I was so relieved to get my blocks sewed together that I took a break and drove to town and ran some errands. Here goes the slowest sewer, back to the machine, though. |
For me that is a calm fabric, especially after doing the quilt for me, that is blinding, By itself it shows more purple but against all the purples, it really brings out the blue in it, and then it actually frames the blocks, which is cool, I like to think that I know what I am doing, to be honest, it is pure dumb luck. I was running out of fabric that had purple in it. And it was different from the rest. so it got voluntold that it would be the sashing whether it liked it or not.
That is great that you are getting work done on it. I am puttering away on the big machine, though I am pulling out more righ tnow that I am putting in. I am getting good at it though and have figured out a way of doing it that it doesn't take forever. |
I love it , Cutebuns!!!
I like the stripe best! the quilting looks great! |

here is a bit more, at least I think, it is hard to tell.

And now I have this.....
|

So it is anything but even, I started out a little skinny and it ended up fatter by the end of the row. I am not pulling it out again. I have to fill in the corners and then a bit down the sides and then I get to roll it up a bit more.
|
So the first 10 inches of the quilt are done, time to move the quilt and really figure out what to quilt the blocks with. I might have to do a little more research on what others have done with it.
|
Cutebuns - I love your quilt! Just saw the thread and have read though all the postings. The purples are great and the blue stripe sets it off so well. Your quilting is great! I can't wait to see it finished. And - this is all done in one day - HOLY COW!
|
The top was done yesterday and now I am stuck, I have the quilt moved on the table and I have the border pieces caught up, and now I am staring at the star wondering what on earth I am going to do with it. I am totally stumped.
