I LIKE it! It took awhile to figure out what you were doing, and I think you have done it wonderfully! I am NOT laughing, I am very impressed!
and, guess what!
I was looking at the Lewis and Clark thread and found a place to use those pieces from part three that they told us to throw away! This little mystery is starting to become an obsession! LOL ...
and, I will be posting pictures tomorrow night .... I have to go to town tomorrow for workday at the Post so that I can email the projects back to the ranch computer and then upload them to here! (aren't I going the extra mile, though! LOL)

but, that is what I am thinking today ... after the final sawtooth and the border, I might get another idea.
I think the star is too big to just quilt around it .... would your hears work well in the stars? just around the centers and then squiggle to the point and ... hmmm ... what else goes with hearts? FLOWERS! but you have the recipient for your quilt figured out, so maybe that would work.
what are you going to do in the sashings?

I think it is WONDERFUL! The most I ever do on borders is a loop and star! It will be a day or two before it gets to the frame, so I may change my mind and do something different .... (interpret: copy CB) LOL

Here is what I am looking at, I think I caught some of the sashing it in, I am not totally happy with it but it will have to do for this quilt.

Oh and Ninnie told me to take a break so I did just that and decided to hang around for a little while

cutebuns 07-13-2009 06:31 PM

If you are going to copy, you need to do a better job than I did for sure. and for goodenss sake, take your time, mine, the alarm on it keeps going off to tell me that I am going to fast

I MUST say that I owe a LOT to this list because in reading other threads, I figured out that my stitches were because of the way I move my machine. My regulator doesn't beep, but the light will turn red if I am going too fast - - have you ever tried to quilt a quilt and watch a light up by your left hand??? Well, neither do I! LOL
So, I am practicing slowing down ... thanks for the heads up, though ... I don't see anything wrong with what you are doing .... OBVIOUSLY, you needed to spend a little time "hanging out" .... because you are being too hard on yourself!
Now! Fellow quiltmakers, I must needs go back to the machine or my evening goal will not be accomplished!

cutebuns 07-13-2009 06:48 PM

I tend to ignore the sound, though I do try to slow down but it is hard to do. especially if I am in a groove. and it flows so much nicer some times when I am skipping along.

gcathie 07-13-2009 08:07 PM

very nice....I like the pattern and the colors!....:-)

Those are great, I really like them, I think if you quilt it in a certain way that it will make it look different. and wait until the sashing etc is in place,

Angie 07-13-2009 09:42 PM

I can't wait to see it finished!

cutebuns 07-13-2009 09:46 PM

don't you worry about that. That's part of the fun, being able to share what we do!

cutebuns 07-13-2009 09:55 PM

Cute kitty, you do have official approval.

cutebuns 07-13-2009 09:56 PM

I love seeing what others do and how they do it.

cutebuns 07-14-2009 12:37 AM

I have half of the quilt done now, it should be done and off of the table tomorrow and the binding ought to be fast on something this size, I machine it on all the way around, I don't do much by hand. So with any luck it will be done and I can move on to something else.

cutebuns 07-14-2009 11:13 AM

I have the next little section done, it is going faster today but still taking a while as there is a lot going onto it, who knew that a lap would take this long to quilt?

cutebuns 07-14-2009 02:02 PM

So it is done with the table, I have to pull a lot of pins and get it off of there and then do the binding, Which I still haven't cut yet.

zennia 07-14-2009 02:30 PM

Both quilt and yellow blocks are beautiful. I wish I wasnt afraid to do a mystery.

scrapatches 07-14-2009 03:15 PM

Oh ... cute quilt, cutebuns! :D Thanks for posting all the pictures, too, of how you quilted it. Great job!

I did print out all the instructions for this quilt on the 12th (so it is not a mystery to me anymore) but I was not able to sew that day. I do like mystery quilts. This one looked like lots of fun.

Angie ... pretty colors! ... and the kitty on your blocks looks to be saying "Enough with this sewing ... I am sitting on these blocks until I get a nice long scratch behind the ears ... "

My kitties do the same thing to me all the time.

I love my furry little helpers ... Pat

cutebuns 07-14-2009 03:15 PM

I have to admit that it took a bit to jump in, but it was worth it, I lucked out and it is a very good pattern.

Jim's Gem 07-14-2009 04:22 PM

Thank you so much, I appreciate everyones comments as I went along, encouraging me in what I was doing. I learned a lot on this one, not only in the piecing but the quilting as well.

Is it time to do another one yet?

So, I am guessing there are people out there that want to see the final product, well guess what, yes, I am done the quilt.

So I cut it out on the Sat night, Did the sewing Sun during the mystery and a little afterwards. Then tossed it on the table on Mon and finished it off today. Not to bad.

I did more quilting on it than expected, I went through more than 3 bobbins which is something for this size quilt.

SaraSewing 07-14-2009 05:58 PM

Cutebuns, I think you win the award for being the quickest with this project, and having it a blue-ribbon beauty!

MollieSue 07-14-2009 06:23 PM

cutebuns 07-14-2009 07:01 PM

You did a really good job on that Omak, that is wonderful.

Angie 07-14-2009 07:02 PM

You did a GREAT job omak! I love the colors and finished quilt! All I can say is WOW to you and cutebuns for finishing so quick and doing a great job as well! I have my blocks done, but have to put it aside to get ready for a machine applique class coming up. I have lots of work to do to get my "homework" done! But I will finish this quilt soon!

omak 07-14-2009 07:03 PM

Thank you

The quilt still needs quilted and bound, but it is good to go for the frame ... won't happen this week, though ... tomorrow, I have GOT to do laundry and some other things (can't remember what, but I am sure it is something <g>) Thursday, we are having an all day sew-in at a shop in Moses Lake for Operation 1161 ... and, since the quilt shop was generous enough to allow us to sew in her sewing room, I can't not be there. Friday, a trip to Spokane for the day .... MAYBE on saturday, I will get a nap .... that is what I miss the most ... the NAP! wahhhhh
and, when I think of all those afternoons at the babysitters that I would resist going to nap! LOL ...

Well, you all know the feeling when you have finally reached this stage!
The only thing I didn't have in my stash when I started was backing fabric, but I won't get to town to buy any until the weekend, so for now this will be it. The colours are a little washed out from my inadequate camera skills but overall I'm pleased with how this turned out.

Omak, I know you mentioned earlier that you were wishing you had gone with a variety of lights, but that yellow really makes your stars stand out. What a great quilt.

cutebuns 07-14-2009 10:11 PM

What a great top, I like it a lot. You did an awesome job on it.

That is a beautiful quilt ... I REALLY like blue, but your choice of lights ... with a splash of sunshine here and there ... that sure gives your quilt a "hug me" feeling. Good job!
So, when you quilt it, how will you go about that?
Good job!

Angie 07-15-2009 06:55 AM

bzang, I love your quilt, you did an awesome job! I can't wait to get mine to that point. BUT like omak said.............. some laundry and housecleaning has been waiting! I also have a machine applique class that I need to get some "homework" done for!
