Lacelady 07-12-2009 11:26 AM

They are looking good, to quote a well known quilter!

susiequilt 07-12-2009 11:33 AM

That's neat! If I would have seen the picture first I might have tried to do it but then it wouldn't be a mystery.

SulaBug 07-12-2009 11:43 AM

WOW!! :D What a fun looking mystery
quilt that you are creating. I just LOVE it!! :D
The colors are wonderful, that pattern
so far is great too. Keep sharing, as you
get furthur along, OK? :D
:D :D :D :D

Rhonda 07-12-2009 11:52 AM

It's coming together really nicely!! I do this pattern with half squares. It is easier for me.

I like seeing what colors of fabric you choose! I get into a rut.

Okay, so I am almost an hour behind, but that happens, not to bad for my first one. So here is what I have so far.

cutebuns 07-12-2009 12:03 PM

For those that want, I am sure you can still get the directions on the site that is doing this, It has been fun.

Yvonne 07-12-2009 12:13 PM

Your quilt is looking great!
I've got the directions all printed out and in a folder for a later date. I didn't have the energy to keep up today! If you're only an hour behind you're doing great! On other mysteries I just kept getting further and further behind until I just gave up and finished at my own pace!
Looking forward to seeing your finished top! Thanks for taking time to post here so we can watch your quilt grow.

cutebuns 07-12-2009 03:00 PM

Okay, I figured it out, I can't read apparently, which isn't surprising, I am about to press a bunch of HST's, and hopefully get them on the quilt in quick time.

tuesy 07-12-2009 03:05 PM

WOW!!! You've done such a great job on those stars...

sewaholic 07-12-2009 03:19 PM

I'm impressed. The only time I did a mystery was a disaster. You have inspired me to give it another go.

Angie 07-12-2009 04:16 PM

cutebuns, I'm impressed! and you worried about your colors for nothing, the are wonderful!

peaceandjoy 07-12-2009 04:26 PM

Cutebuns, yours is looking gorgeous. Love your purples - and the blue you chose for sashing is perfect.

I have to admit, I rarely do it when it is a mystery. First off, if I'm not liking it at all, I loathe working on it, stitch by stitch. Second, they have been known to sometimes have problems in the instructions - so I like to give them a chance to work the bugs out. Surprises in general aren't my thing.

In addition, I've hauled all of my fabric out from nooks and crannies and have started refolding, cutting in strips and squares, sorting by color, etc. It's unbelievable what a mess I have - but eventually, it's going to be so much easier to use. Right???

This one I like very much, and have printed the instructions (they are only on the site free for one day after it ends, I think - so if you are planning to do it, at least print it out for yourself).

butterflywing 07-12-2009 04:36 PM

i really like when quilts are made in all shades of one color. for me at least, they hold together well. and since i like purple (who doesn't? ) this one is coming up very pretty. how big will you make it?

EDIT: where are the instructions?

Ducky 07-12-2009 04:46 PM

I love the look of this, Cutebuns. I'm glad you are having fun with it, but is it frustrating not knowing what you're doing (the finished product....not your ability!   ) I've never done a mystery quilt. Maybe in my next life I'll have the time.

Chele 07-12-2009 04:49 PM

Woo hoo! I'm loving those purple fabrics. I can't wait to see the end of the mystery. I know it's going to be lovely. The sneak preview was great!

Here is the site, I think the instructions are only up for 24 hours after they are done,

A little pressing and then I will have more pictures.

Here are a few more pictures, I am not sure if they expected anyone to do the sawtooth border in less than an hour, I am not capable of it that is for sure, I should have guessed that the pieces would make HST and had a head start on them. Alomst done, I think they just do one more border on it.

Rhonda 07-12-2009 05:41 PM

That is really pretty Cute!! I love the colors.

So here is the completed top. I am now trying to decide if I should try and quilt it tonight and bind it to see if I can actually do the whole thing (minus the cutting) in one day. Any suggestions?

SaraSewing 07-12-2009 06:05 PM

Wow cutebuns, you did a great job. It almost looks like stained glass! I didn't get nearly are far as you did. I love your colors.

Ducky 07-12-2009 06:13 PM

That is just so amazing you did that in one day! The purples are so wonderful, and I love, love, love the sawtooth border. You are incredible, my friend.

imjustme 07-12-2009 06:17 PM

My son is standing here watching me read all the post. We came to this one and he pointed and said " that is pwetty". LOL it was so cute. He is only 3. I agree with him, those colors are "pwetty".

It does almost look like that, the sun is behind DD that is holding it, I am guessing it won't look like that after the backing is on. I am trying to decide what to put on the back now, If I hurry, I might actually get it on the table.

Good luck getting it done. It is worth it.

TY Ducky, I have never done a pieced border and if it wasn't for this I would have avoided them a while longer, I am happy that it turned out so good as now I am more willing to do more. I will have to search pieced borders, I am sure there is a lot out there.

I hope you get it all organized and it does make it easier. I kind of liked the surprise, it is something that I probably wouldn't have done it otherwise. It was interesting and I learned a lot from it.

Next one I might just print out if it is the same company.

cutebuns 07-12-2009 06:23 PM

So I would like to thank you all for your kind words, I like how it turned out. I guess as well that it could have been the opposite and I could very well have hated it, chance you take doing a mystery quilt. I would like to do more of them. I liked the fact that I have the top done in a day, most of things that I pick out I don't or can't do in a day. When I started I started a lot more simple, if you have seen the last one I jsut finished that just isn't so any more. I tend to get carried away.

Rhonda 07-12-2009 06:26 PM

LOL I was going to say it looked like stained glass but Sara beat me to it!
It is really something!! Just beautiful!
