I am hooked ;).. after my cardinals I was asked to do one for a dear friends mother... she used to be able to feed the birds but after a stroke last year is now in a nursing home;(. I hoped to bring her a view of the birds outside her window * in this wall hanging in progress..

MY friend died earlier this year of cancer and I have met his dear mom ( who lives in Pa) several times and she is a sweetheart .. it was my pleasure to do this for her . As I went along I found lady's bugs and butterflies and bunnies in my stash as well;). I know it will bring a big smile to her face. Can't wait to thread paint and the fun stuff now. Ps I used SOFT FUSE this time and I highly recommend it and loved it !! super easy to use.

The entire project took less than a couple of hours it went directly from my head to the fabric.. and using soft fuse made it really easy to do.

janice4 10-23-2010 02:51 PM

I am hoping the side panels of blue will look like curtains she is looking out onto the yard.. and will likely border it all with white windowsills next.

T-Bones mom 10-23-2010 02:55 PM

Your work is so beautiful.

luv-e 10-23-2010 02:56 PM

You are one nice lady to make your friend's mother this.
She will really enjoy this for sure.
My MIL was in NH. one suggestion; put a name on it, so no one will take it. My MIL things were stollen when she pasted away!!!! it was awful!! Don't ever want that to happen to anyone, again.

janice4 10-23-2010 03:02 PM

Oh yes I think you are right... I will..put my name and her name on it. I imagine a few people will get a smile from it ;)

ShySally 10-23-2010 03:04 PM

Looking fantastic and what a thoughtful idea - I am sure the recipient will love it.

janice4 10-23-2010 03:09 PM

MY friend wife's name is BEA thus the little Bea on the bottom left in the flowers. The butterfly is for my friend ( the recipients son) who died...( sign of rebirth.

jamh 10-23-2010 03:25 PM

KiwiQuilter 10-23-2010 03:35 PM

tmw 10-23-2010 04:00 PM

that almost looks real, very pretty.

thimblebug6000 10-23-2010 05:07 PM

It's a great idea. When my Mom was in a care home (for 7 years) we bought & hung a bird feeder outside her bedroom window thinking it would be wonderful....NOT.... every time a bird flew in..the motion upset her...etc.... she was living with the results of a stroke.... I made a cute wall hanging for above her bed, and each season hung things throughout out the home.

GwenH 10-23-2010 05:21 PM

That's incredible.. the recipient is going to love it, I know I sure would.

Wonderful!

QUILT4JOY 10-23-2010 10:02 PM

Janice these are wonderful. It has opened my to a new way of looking.

skydiver70 10-23-2010 11:51 PM

Oh, how pretty. She will love it. It looks so real.

I know it will brighten her day. When Mama was in the nursing home, she and her roommate watched the birds at the feeder outside her window. The sun would be too bright at certain times of day, but with this landscape, she can see and enjoy it at any time.

So nice of you to brighten up this lady's day. People in the nursing homes need more people who will do things like this to cheer them up.

Bless you for doing this!

texaspam 10-24-2010 03:03 AM

That is really cute. Thanks for the step by step. You really did a good job on that.

You may have just put yourself in business!! How nice of you to do this - so many things for her to look at instead of just 4 walls. Great job!

What "soft fuse" did you use? Was it Mistyfuse? Beautiful.

dphelps 10-24-2010 06:34 AM

This is lovely so far and what a nice thing to do for your new "friend". I am sure she will always relate this to her daughter and of course, you being her friend.
