What a fabulous quilt! Thanks for sharing it with us!

Jingle 11-04-2013 10:54 AM

Absolutely gorgeous. I don't think I would like all the cutting and piecing. It sure was worth all your time spent on it.

PenniF 11-04-2013 11:30 AM

I can't think of anything but WOW !!!

debbieoh 11-04-2013 11:47 AM

You did a wonderful job. I could never have done it

sewgarden 11-04-2013 11:53 AM

Beautiful quilt.

MissSongbird 11-04-2013 12:30 PM

Looks beautiful! All that hard work definitely paid off.

patsynel 11-04-2013 12:44 PM

This is a fantastic quilt. I am no help on the quilting, sorry. I am sure there are some very smart people on this board that can help you.

Pepita 11-04-2013 01:25 PM

I don't think the quilting will show very much. There are no large empty spaces. n edge to edge pattern would be very. Appropriate. I think you should pick what you like. If you know an experienced L.A. Quilter I would at least ask her opinion. a clam shell, or baptist fan are good ideas too.

Auntie Em 11-04-2013 01:33 PM

WOW!!! Absolutely beautiful!!!

IBQUILTIN 11-04-2013 03:20 PM

I think the Baptist Fan would give it motion and not be overpowering.

Cagey 11-04-2013 03:45 PM

That is amazing - beautiful colors.

Quilt27 11-04-2013 06:29 PM

I'm partial to Baptist Fan. It wouldn't fight with the pattern and it would look wonderfully old timey, if you like that effect.

raspberryparade09 11-04-2013 08:31 PM

Beautiful job. I love it!

Gannyrosie 11-05-2013 03:40 AM

Wow, simple curved quilting would be my choice, or just 1 inch diagonal lines East to west, then west to east. I would not over quilt to loose the beauty of your work. That is an amazing job. I can see how you went back and forth with it, I think I would be the same way. Good luck on your quilting choice.

Sewbeeit2 11-05-2013 03:55 AM

It is georgeous. Would love to see big feathered wreaths.

SheriR 11-05-2013 04:45 AM

Wow !!!!! The moment you asked for quilting ideas one popped into my head, but I'm not a quilting expert. I read through all the posts and was pleased to see others say, Baptist Fan. :D

Quilt-Till-U-Wilt 11-05-2013 04:51 AM

This is a masterpiece.

mjhaess 11-05-2013 04:58 AM

I'm rooting for you!! Sometimes we all just need a little push to get something done. I'll be looking forward to seeing a picture here of your's before long.

Big RESPECT for you. What an achievement. I'm trying to be sort of funny here, because after reading your progress with the piecing and cutting, continue in the same way but quilt it a bit then eat chocolate and rest, quilt it a bit more then eat cake and drink tea rest, quilt some more, you get the idea? It is truly amazing well done. I wish you well whatever approach you take and please show us when it's done. It will be Quilt Board "Quilt Of The Week" I am certain.

LOL But by the time I got it quilted I would be so wide that I would need to make another just to cover myself up with VBG.

flikkem 11-05-2013 07:07 AM

A portrait in patience with wonderful results.

That is just awesome. Just curious if you know the number of pieces in it.

Let's see if I an calculate them. 237 double nine patch blocks at 49 pieces each would be 11,613; plus 238 shoo fly blocks at 41 pieces each would be 9,758; Oh my gosh is right! 21,371 pieces.

OHMYGOSH I just love this quilt. You have done yourself proud. Did you hand piece or machine piece? I will have to find the pattern for this one for sure.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful quilt.
Pat

It is machine pieced (I would never get it done if I were hand piecing!)

Nope, no border on mine. I do plan to bind it with black fabric to set off the colors.

I am in awe- just beautiful!!

mpeters1200 11-05-2013 10:01 AM

That is one of the most stunning quilts I have ever seen! Excellent piecing, fantastic color placement. I'm not sure I could put this one on my bucket list, lots and lots of pieces, but it sure is gorgeous!

Wow that is amazing.

SewCraftyGirl 11-05-2013 11:56 AM

Your quilt is amazing. I have admired this quilt one or two other times on the quilting board and yours is no exception! I'd love to make one someday, but I have more to learn on getting a better 1/4 in seam first! Congrats on a beautiful quilt!

mojo11 11-05-2013 01:33 PM

What a beautiful quilt. Great job.

JoanneS 11-05-2013 01:41 PM

I love this quilt - and the one that inspired you. BUT I know that I will never have the patience to make one!

As for quilting suggestions, I would keep it simple so as to not draw attention away from the beautiful piecing. Maybe diagonal cross-hatching. Or even plain straight of grain-of-grain cross-hatching following the main lines of the blocks. Don't drive yourself nuts with the quilting - and, for goodness sakes, don't try to stitch in the ditch!

Rose S. 11-05-2013 02:10 PM

It was well worth the effort...it is gorgeous!

Sorry to post again. I guess I'm smitten. I've been researching the OhMyGosh quilt and OMGOSH the pieces are TINY!!!!

I would keep the quilting simple. There is already a ton of thread in this quilt.maybe some twirly stars ? You have created a masterpiece here. Congratulations from one scrappy quilt lover to another!!
