I'm trying to remember what quilting teacher said this (might have been in a Craftsy class), but I remember that you should position your quilting surface against a wall, and if possible in a corner so it's bordered on two sides. That keeps the quilt from sliding off and creating drag. Of course, mine isn't set up that way, which is probably why I remember that advice. :)

KLO: look under your cutting mat! That’s where I keep my supreme slider! Stays nice and is always handy!

kat13: When I read your response, I got all excited thinking you had such a good idea that maybe I did just that. But, unfortunately, I could not find the slider under either of my mats. It did get me thinking that it seems that I may have done something similar with it to keep it flat. Now if only I could remember what! Thanks for tweaking my brain memory.

Isn't that the truth! Think I'll just try one of those magic sleds since they are so much cheaper. More money left for fabric, don't you know!!! And yes, that will be stored under my cutting mat for sure.
