Pressing Problem

1 Attachment(s)
I just finished this lap quilt. I followed some advice I was given to stack and chain sew the columns, then sew next column to the first, etc. I was not supposed to clip the threads as that would hold everything in its rightful place. The quilt is made of HSTs. All went pretty well except for me twisting the thing once or twice. It took forever to get those little threads untwisted! No pressing until it was finished. You can't imagine how much trouble that little quilt was to press! The back is the biggest mess I have ever seen. I finished pressing it this morning the best I could, and I'm going to sandwich and quilt this baby as soon as possible. I so wish I had followed the Jenny Doan Youtube tutorial to do it instead of the pattern I had. HSTs and seam pressing give me fits! Anyway, here is my little quilt. I'm trying to think of a good name for it? :D

very nice........

Sorry about the problems you had but............ you sure made a pretty quilt. BrendaK

Very pretty quilt top. And sorry, I can only think of dumb names this morning!

tessagin 04-12-2014 05:42 AM

Love everything about your quilt!

DebraK 04-12-2014 05:45 AM

"pressing problems" is a perfect name ;-) cute quilt!

Homemother 04-12-2014 06:32 AM

Pretty quilt!!! How about "Turning Triangles"? You had to turn your quilt this way and that and this way and that to get it pressed! LOL! I have to admit I take a look at Jenny's videos before I try something new. She simplifies a lot of techniques so that the process of quilting is more enjoyable.

Very pretty how about twisting in the wind?

I hate when I don't stop something I know is not going well and do it differently. At least it came out beautifully.

PenniF 04-12-2014 06:48 AM

I'm sorry it gave you fits.....but it surely is a very pretty quilt !!

my-ty 04-12-2014 06:58 AM

How about "Never Again" or "LOL - Labor of Love" or "Blood, Sweat and Triangles"? Pretty quilt but I can feel your pain. Some times shortcuts just don't work for someone else but we never know unless we try.

Lori S 04-12-2014 07:16 AM

How about "Live and Learn"!

KarenK 04-12-2014 07:30 AM

No suggestions for names. Very pretty quilt!

Tartan 04-12-2014 07:30 AM

Pretty quilt top. I have never gotten the hang of "webbing" my tops either. How about Triangle Tango? Or maybe more appropriately Triangle Tangle?:D

Quiltngolfer 04-12-2014 08:24 AM

Thanks so much! I love all your suggestions. I think I will go with Triangle Tangle. I wish I had taken a picture of it when I got all tangled up. Now it is funny, but NOT then. Jenny's way just looked so easy. I like doing quilts in squares rather than rows.

QuiltnNan 04-12-2014 08:54 AM

nicely done

Pennyhal 04-12-2014 09:11 AM

I really like your quilt! I'd call it "A Pain In My Patootie."

Annz 04-12-2014 09:15 AM

Oh I feel your pain in the pressing. It came out really nice. How about Rhapsody?

JuneBillie 04-12-2014 09:22 AM

A very pretty quilt. I now love to press seams. Years ago I did not like pressing things as little seams even though I enjoyed ironing in general. It's funny how we change.

cathyvv 04-12-2014 09:30 AM

It's cute! Good job, even if it was a bit of a pain to make, it looks beautiful.

fred singer 04-12-2014 09:57 AM

awesome quilt

IQ2 04-12-2014 10:01 AM

Lovely job! To me it looks like "Wind Chimes". I think you should just relax and listen to the wind chimes now and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

alikat110 04-12-2014 01:23 PM

Nice job. ..... sorry it was difficult.

mariemy 04-12-2014 03:22 PM

very pretty quilt, but sorry, ;-( I just want to let you know, your half square triangles on the right side between the yellow and green blocks are turned the wrong way. I wanted to tell you before you started quilting it. I really love this pattern, and your colors are great. Marie

Quiltngolfer 04-12-2014 05:36 PM

Mariemy, thank you so much. I hadn't even noticed it. I am so happy to know that before quilting. You are very observant.

Jingle 04-12-2014 05:37 PM

Very pretty. Looks great and no problems are showing.

joyful1 04-12-2014 07:05 PM

Real pretty!

vondae 04-12-2014 10:35 PM

Love your fabrics and it turned out very pretty. You could call it " twisted threads".

LavenderBlue 04-12-2014 11:00 PM

Such a pretty and unusual color combo!

DOTTYMO 04-12-2014 11:49 PM

Press perfect sounds a good name now.

ckcowl 04-13-2014 02:03 AM

it sure turned out great- sorry it gave you problems. every thing lined up so well. I often chain piece and do not press until certain units are put together- sometimes that just helps them go together more precisely. in the end I usually think it was worth it. :)

Barbpr 04-13-2014 04:22 AM

I use the stack and chain method but press before. Then I press the seams so they butt up. I haven't had the issues you had, but I found my blocks go together very neatly this way! Nice quilt, BTW.

gabeway 04-13-2014 04:32 AM

Great job! Reminds me of a "Town Square ".

coopah 04-13-2014 04:38 AM

Troubles Undone? It is a lovely quilt...and you deserve a kudo for persevering! Nice!

twinkie 04-13-2014 04:39 AM

Very very pretty. I love the way the colors blend together.

Wanabee Quiltin 04-13-2014 05:07 AM

Well, you sure made a pretty quilt. Those fabrics go together really well. You did a good job !

T. 04-13-2014 07:48 AM

QUILTNMO 04-13-2014 11:28 AM

very cute quilt!!!!

JanieH 04-13-2014 11:28 AM

While you may have had fits doing it, your quilt turned out gorgeous! I love the fabric.
