!! I say Reinforce all the seams!! And back stitch the beginnings and ends of everything. They can become quite heavy and you don't want the seams to "pop" when shaking the loose threads off. (I had this happen once and you can't fix them once they've been clipped and washed) The edge is zig zag stitched however far in you made your seam allowance and clipped all the way around just like the rest although some people bind theirs in the traditional manner. I also used a Walking Foot. When you pin your rows together, lay top seams facing left and bottom facing right...you dont want them laying on top of eachother or you'll be sewing through like 10 layers of fabric  I also switched to a 16 needle when sewing the rows together and then back to a 14 for the zig zag edge. sorry for the "windy" post |
[quote=dltaylor]a quilt is a quilt is a quilt!! Well in my opinion anyway. Doesn't matter if it is hand sewn, machine or rag...]
Nice job, I agree totally, nice quilts  |

You did a nice job on your rag quilts! Who's to say they aren't "real" quilts? Quilts are made to be used and these definetly will be used by the person you made them for.
Of course it's a quilt, why wouldn't it be. Love em.
I like your rag quilts... looks like they were fun to make... thanks for sharing.
Those are all well-planned REAL quilts and pretty to boot.
"The edge is zig zag stitched however far in you made your seam allowance and clipped all the way around just like the rest although some people bind theirs in the traditional manner. "
Can you please clarify this for me? Did you sew a straight stitch and then a zig zag to reinforce or did you just use the zig zag to create your seam allowance? The zig zag stitch would add some additional interest to the piece. |
Not only do those quilts look real, they look real good.

The zig zag stitch would add some additional interest to the piece. I just reinforced by straight stitching each seam twice. The edge is the only place where I used a zig zag. Hope that makes sense. |
I started out with rag quilts too. Then I got some fabric that was too pretty to rag and took my first piecing class and they created a monster!
I still love rag quilts, but I'm hooked on chenille right now! |
What's not real about a rag quilt!
They are wonderful quilts! Thanks for sharing! |
Very nice quilts!! I say, QUILTS! sharet
They are so pretty! I need to make some now.
Oh i love them...I can't wait to make one..
Those are delightful. You have a great eye for color combinations. I'm glad you shared.
Great looking quilts!
Really not a quilt??? - not in my world - they are quilts and colorful and great!
I like them all! But I thought they are real quilts.
Nicely done, they look like quilts to me :)
I think they are very nice. I make all kinds of quilts, but my grandkids love the rag quilts the best. They are so warm and cuddly.
Why are they not 'real' quilts. Look like quilts to me! Nice work.
Very Nice! Love them all. :-P
Really cute quilts for kids.
Congrats, Kutnso |
Look like "real" quilts to me. They are very nice, love your color combos.
It is so a quilt! You cut, pieced, sewed and snipped. Thats what makes a quilt! Now try something more challenging!
They look pretty "real" to me, and they look real pretty as well. Good Job, I like to make rag quilts also.

Yours are lovely. Don't be afraid to show your projects. The quilt police is not on the board! |
Boy! Your hand must be sore from clipping! Great quilts.

Quilts are quilts. You've done a great job. My sister and I make comfort quilts. All machine done and sometimes 5 tops in 4 days. We quilt them on sewing machines not on LA machines. We use straight stitches. If they get loved to death and fall apart, we make new ones. You do not ever have to apologize for how or what you quilt. I absolutely love the hand done ones, but one cannot sit on them and as they are truly works of art, must be protected. They should be - lots of money involved and steady work of sometimes a year or more. I want to use mine and love them to death. It's all subjective. I hate to think I would have to put my quilts away in special paper, etc. Love them and use them.

Very nice and I love doing rag quilts .
Great rag quilts!!!
They are all so very nice.
very nice

Whoever told these are not quilts were WRONG. I've only made one for my grandson when he was born. He's four now and loves his raggady quilt.
My favorite is the 3rd one. Yep, I agree, they are quilts.
I love rag quilts.
All are so pretty, hard to pick a favorite. Nice job.
Gotta agree with the others. A quilt is a quilt and I consider rag quilts one of my favorites. I haven't made any yet, but am gathering fabrics just for that. Some day, when I have more time, maybe. I love all your quilts. Well done :-)
Why wouldn't you think those are "real" quilts? I like them very much. I like that rough edge on you blocks.
