I have a question...How do we feel about non symmetrical borders? By this I mean a border that is not the mirror image of itself all the way around. I have a thought on a very pretty border I have seen on a few asian quilts, but have not seen anyone do this in the RR's here. Thoughts please? I'll try and find a photo of what I'm talking about.

(the center will still be centered and have the same size border all around)

Hope you understand this...I think I've confused myself!

jaba 08-30-2013 06:56 PM

I'd love to see a photo so I can picture it. If you think it will fit on mine and an idea just pops right in your head, go for it...I'm game. Would love to see something different.

SandyinZ4 08-30-2013 07:39 PM

I think an non-symetrical border would be great...at least on mine so if you want to do one like that, I say go for it. I can picture it in my mind, mainly because I have seen the outer borders on some quilts done that way with an applique flower on opposite corners of the border. I think it would be cool and perhaps the next person could do the same except on opposite corners. Just a thought but I like the idea.

jaba 08-31-2013 03:48 AM

Anyone starting on borders yet? Would love to see some pictures....

jaba 08-31-2013 08:55 AM

tlambing I will be shipping yours on its way Tuesday also. Did my round today. Since you said you liked brown, thought every quilt needs a little chocolate and then matched the blue in your center. Hope you like it.Need to iron it a little better but wanted to show you. Don't be shy, if you don't like it let me know, I can take it off real easy and start anew.

ok thanks for the update

SandyinZ4 09-01-2013 05:25 PM

So far, the first rounds are looking great. I am excited to get started on Miriam's. :-)

annpryor 09-01-2013 05:50 PM

Beautiful block.

jaba 09-01-2013 07:18 PM

Glad you're okay with what I did tlambing. Will send it on Tuesday...Brat was just here and she liked it, so was oping it would pass for you. One more day for some for the holiday, brat and Steve came over for a bar-b-que and I'm so full I can hardly even waddle. But it was good, hubby cooked the steaks just right.

Elisabrat 09-03-2013 01:22 PM

Tlambing that is VERY pretty omg those are tiny squares! Jaba that is a perfect round now the blues and the greens pop out too!

Sorry I have been quiet I forgot to come here literally. I was busy sewing this weekend on a mission so to speak to get some must do's done. I apologize. some grand swap leader I am. sigh its me not you guys honest. kick me when need be which might be more often than you think (true story). I think this is going to be an interesting and fun round robin. Remember sometimes you look at something and think.. uh then the next time you do you think awesome.. I use dragonflys last swap which I went through page by page. a couple times I went.. UH>>> then later on I thought it all worked together really well. so goes to show what quick judgement gives you. a kick in the.. :)

I do like what you did send it on T send it on! you got through that so easy shoot my first one first round I was OMG for a long time actually all the way through ended up doing simple which wasn't simple for me at all. I worry a lot too in fact a whole lot is this good enough? is this right? are they all going to laugh at me? is my stitching embarrassing? hello .. even the best which I am not think these things too.. so have a half a glass of wine start cutting start sewing have another half and tada you will think maybe this isn't.. ok you don't drink wine. or any thing. Have a cup of tea and relax a bit first.. go to your happy spot it will come. honest!

tlambing 09-03-2013 01:50 PM

Cool cool cool Brat. I'm glad it's been Ok'd :) I'll ship it on to Jan tomorrow!

Hi fellow Road Runner's, I received Twinriverfarm (Miriam's) block today and couldn't resist posting a picture of it. Not sure what I will do for it yet but might audition a few ideas in the coming week just to get your opinion. I have some patriotic fabric too so will be fun to see what I can come up with. I have company coming near end of week so I can't guarantee I will get it finished but have a little while yet so not worried.

tlambing 09-03-2013 03:28 PM

The corner squares resemble little rockets. Cute. I like it!

jaba 09-03-2013 04:28 PM

Sent out today so on it's way for the next round. Miriam here is your #9114901075742466418027

Elisabrat 09-04-2013 02:45 PM

What a great center! love patriotic fabrics doing one myself in another round robin! hey does anyone have the ability to take our beginning blocks and put them all in one picture like a before then we can do it again with the after.. I cant figure how to do that but if you could would you for me then post them here. Do we have all the centers started? Lets see Jaba check! Brat check! Tlambing Check! SandyinZ4 check! and twinriverfarm check! yes yes we do. so a this is us now just the first photos then this is the group at the end. pretty please???

SandyinZ4 09-04-2013 02:58 PM

I will have to admit I have no knowledge of how to do that, Brat. Perhaps someone else who is just following along might know how to put all 5 pics together as one. Let's hope they see this and do it for us. Fingers crossed.

Debbie B 09-04-2013 03:59 PM

Will be following your progress. Love the center blocks so far and can't wait to see what you all do.

jaba 09-04-2013 05:40 PM

I have them saved on my computer individually. Going to try to put them in an album, but I will have the start and the finish, will have to figure out each round if everyone posts as they get them done.

ooooooo it worked! :)

SandyinZ4 09-04-2013 07:31 PM

Hurray!!! You did it. Thanks so much. I admire you talented computer folks so much...plus you are a super quilter. There are some days when I feel like I just do NOT want to learn any more new technology! But...I know I must because if I want to keep my brain working....Sigh! Thanks again.

jaba 09-05-2013 06:02 AM

You can be our official poster Teresa, good job. Would love to see pics after each round is added and then the 5 finished.

Elisabrat 09-06-2013 03:59 AM

omg THANK YOU!! that is exactly what we need and well if boredom hits you big time you can do it when each set of rounds is done too (lol so bored she is thanking me right now and wishing she didn't show us her fancy trick). That is exactly what I was hoping for. Yippeee and I didn't have to learn an new software thing at all. wouldn't have helped even with my windows8 for dummies I can not figure out how to post in forum pictures. everywhere else no issue even tiny pics I tried it simply wont participate. One day it will be like magic I will figure it out.. accidentally and then not know how I did it. that would be fine as long as it would work! Tlambing come on over I have a computer with your name on it saying fix me fix me. its brand new too. sigh..

See, I told my hubby I was good for something! ;)

Elisabrat 09-06-2013 07:33 PM

omg should he ever be dumb enough to leave you.. would you marry me? I only want you for your sewing and your computer skills you can wander free with the rest? see what a lovely offer! I have room for you, ok I will make room for you! lol.. you are the BOMB thanks so much that is exactly what I cant do!

TwinRiverFarm 09-07-2013 04:50 AM

Hmmm... Let me see if I have this straight so far... I am going to marry Brat's son (for a quilt), she is going to marry BOTH my DH (can't remember why) and Tlambings (for her computer skills). She already has Jaba wrapped around her finger and moved to be next to her... SandyinZ4 - you need to run away fast because YOU ARE NEXT bwah hah hah! I'm ready to send Jaba's center on to you, BTW, hope to photo it and mail it in the next few days. Today I need to clean the chicken coop...

SandyinZ4 09-07-2013 06:52 AM

Good morning...just a quick reply because I have to get back to fabric. I unloadeded every piece of fabric I had and it is scattered on the guest bed and cutting table just to look for my patriotic stash. So I am going to sort and arrange today then get started on Miriam's. I have a good idea of what I am going to do for the next border...just have to do math and calculations to get it to come out right. Plus I need to go re-read the rules and see what size of border I need to put on. I am thinking and hoping it is 6 inches because what I want to do will look better larger than smaller, I think. But don't hold your breath...it won't be anything fancy but still will tie in. When I get fabric back on shelves and math done, I will audition a block and get everyone's opinion. Company has not shown up yet...so betting they will while I have this big cluttered mess. But my stash will be better afterward because then maybe I can find something. Oh, the patriotic stuff was in the very last tub I looked in! Figures!

jaba 09-07-2013 07:27 AM

OH!!! so excited, hurry hurry with that chicken coop. I want to see a pic, really truly I do.
Not sure about that Brat, she certainly has lots of husbands, mine is her "honey do" hubby, I'm her fabric-sew slave (can't quite fit around her finger yet though) :D and she is my cook queen. Got to figure out where "her Steve" fits in here, think he needs a job too. He's got way too much idle time. My hubby just left to go to her house and install a new ceiling light for her, gees, he forgot to do my stuff first. Hope she doesn't tire him out to much....

tlambing 09-08-2013 12:10 AM

Finally made it to the PO today to ship Brats quilt on to Jaba. What a week!

Was able to slow cook down some fig butter overnight and canned 4 little 1/2 pint jars. Take that Jan;)

I did get the top done for the Fall table runner swap tonight. It turned out so cool. Hoping to sandwich and quilt it out tomorrow.
And then on to embellishments. I've had so much fun with this one. Thanks to Brat for fixing me up with someone that has little ones :) (I got to do Halloween!)

Sandy, you've made me tired just reading of all your moving and organizing and hunting and stuff! You go girl!

Now with all this talk of marrying we should rename our group the Sister wives round robin. We would create a force to be reckoned with, with all our amazing talents! I'll take the computer skills division.

jaba 09-08-2013 05:17 AM

I'll watch for it and let you know when I finally get it. Have to show it to brat and see what she wants next, hopefully I can sew it.
Bet your fig butter will taste pretty good. Do you use it as a spread, like on toast?
Got my fall runner done too and just finished the home decor swap items for 2 partners. Think I'm going to package them up today so I can mail tomorrow. I get those things sewn and it drives me nuts when they sit around here. Start second guessing myself and make another one ...now I have 3 fall table runners to quilt today. Brat had some beautiful fabric with pears on it in the fall colors and made a fantastic runner for me. It needs to be on my dining room table so need to quilt it today. Will post a pic so you can see when I get it done.
That's about all the news today so far from this house so will check in later. Have a good one "sister wives"

tlambing 09-08-2013 07:21 AM

Yes Jan, I love figs and it makes a great toast topper. As well as being great a little warmed over vanilla ice cream :)
The smell in the house was wonderful! Had me feeling fall for a while. I thought of my mother while I was producing this batch. She always made jams and jellies. Taught me to can from a very young age. I was really lucky to have such a great mom. Sure do miss her. She passed in 2006 from early onset Alzheimer's. So, every time I find something that reminds me of her I cherish the moment. Sewing is another way I remember/honor mom. She taught all of us girls to sew, but I'm the only one that enjoys it and carries on.
Have a wonderful Sunday all.

Hi there Road runner sister wives... son and d-i-l should be here in a few hours so I need to get lasagna started but wanted to get your opinion before I go any further. First of all, I have to say that I hope a 'round robin' is fairly flexible because none of us probably have the exact match of fabric to go with what others have. Ok..attached is picture of what I have in mind to do. My little x blocks measure 3 inches unfinished so will be a bit smaller when sewn together around the edge. I plan to do a small, blue border( about the color of the center of block) around everything first to transition to the little x-blocks. So, Miriam, will this be ok or do you want me to go in another direction? My fabrics aren't quite the bright red but still patriotic looking. Didn't want to make too many of those little critters if you don't like them. They are 2 inch squares and then 1 1/4 inch for the corner beige. Yikes! You will have time to give me all of your opinions as I will be busy for a few days and doubt I will get back to sewing room until Wed/Thurs. :-) Wishing everyone a good week. Anxious to see what all of you are coming up with.

TwinRiverFarm 09-08-2013 01:59 PM

I love it! Have a great week and do not stress too much. I have been auditioning ideas for tlambing's this afternoon, thinking about some embellishments and bling (very subdued bling, nothing flashy or gaudy, I promise!). Now off to feed DH and the animals...

Now you've got my mind going! OOOooooo!
Can't wait to see what you come up with. :)

SandyinZ4 09-09-2013 05:36 AM

Ooohhh! Bling! I LOVE bling...keep that thought in mind when mine comes around to you Miriam. :-) Now both Teresa and I are going to be anxious to see what you have in mind. Company is still sacked out after long drive so had a little bit of time to check inand seeif there was any more news. :-) Will get started on the rest of your X's and O'sas soon I I can, TRF (Miriam). I want to wait until I get all of them done before I add the blue border. I thought that way I could fudge a little and make them fit evenly around the outer edge. Brat, can we fudge a little bit on size of second border if we have to? Or does it have to be 4 1/4 " when it is sewn on? I vote for a bit of fudging!:-)
