Stunning Quilts

We have so many members ask about patterns for a quilt that is stunning in its appearance and then usually there is another qualifier such as quick or no curves or no 60 degree triangles or something else or not modern or not traditional. Would those of you who have made many quilts post the picture of the one most stunning quilt you've made with a description of how long it took to sew, how difficult it was to make, etc. I think a category of our best, stunning quilts would be quite helpful and certainly educational, and , oh my goodness, so entertaining! So ladies, will you post? Remember stunning, not easy or quick is the benchmark. If you do I'm sure this will get moved to somewhere else, but we can hunt for it.

Ok, lets see how this works! My quilt for my son and dil's wedding.

Since these was my first double wedding ring it too about 2 months start to binding. I used the Eleanor Burns method and won't do it again. I'll piece the next one the traditional way.

This is not a quilt for the beginner. I consider myself an intermediate quilter. Some of these curves can be tricky to get just right, at least for me!

Your quilt is beautiful.

My avatar is my 'best' quilt to date. That said, it's only my second appliqué project and my fourth quilt, lol. It may not be 'stunning' by other people's standards, but I loved very minute of it. :)

My avatar is also the best quilt I've made, though that list is on the short side of only 5 (and only 2 bed-sized). I made the pattern up myself, and start to finish I think it took me about 50 hours (not counting the fabric selection and coordination, which took another 5 hours, probably). I wrote the pattern in this thread, and though it's tedious it's pretty straight-forward:

For a picture of it "standing up", here it is on display at one of my craft shows this year (it's a camera phone, so the colors are not as vibrant or saturated as in real life).

Bargello quilts get my vote. They can be really stunning.

it is so hard to chose. I never thought i made stunning quilts so i have to look at them with a different eye. Here is what I came up with.

I wanted to chose one that is unusual and a bit of a challenge. I had to go with my favorite too.i have to edit the pic into the post cause of who knows what! here goes.

I am still working on figuring out how to quilt this one. It is one of my favorite patterns.

Any quilting suggestions and ideas would be greatly accepted!

Very easy yet has a complicated appearance. It is all cut from one pieced block. The pattern is called Casa Maya. And I love it. My next one will be in poppy colors!

My floral log cabin. Fast and easy to strip piece. I believe the color and layouts of log cabins can make them a wow.

Oops! This quilt is gorgeous, but I searched for it in Google and discovered the name of it is Costa Maya, not Casa Maya. Love it - Thanks for posting!

This is the quilt that I am most proud of. I found the pattern on the internet and spent about three weeks putting it together. I quilted it myself on my domestic sewing machine with a stipple, matching thread colors. I love displaying it every Christmas season.

This was my 2nd Bargello I made it for my son and new DDIL. Took me longer than it should have as I made a mistake in placement and had to take it apart back to the center and redo it. I had to remake some of the strips. I called it Jets in Flight as they both work for Gulfstream. I quilted it following the lines of the "jets" and the rest with "air currents". I used decorative stitches to quilt the pillows.

I don't know about stunning but this is my favorite quilt. There were some challenges in here for me-not enough focus fabric, scalloped borders. Anyway, I love it and loved every minute I worked on it.

Mickey1 01-08-2013 07:33 PM

Bailey, your quilt is amazing. The zebras and leopard and lion are so fun. You son must love it.

My most stunning and favorite quilt has to be my Sylvia's Bridal Sampler, called Sylvia & Louise. I made it in the year after my mother, Louise, passed away. It was definitely my therapy and got me through that tough time. It's held together with thread and tears and there is love in every stitch. Miss you, Mom!

BizzieLizzie 01-09-2013 02:21 AM

So sorry for your loss. It is a beautiful quilt. It is difficult but with time, the hurting will heal. Take care. Best wishes. :)

the picture is not so great but this quilt is Stunning! it was my first use of crystals on a quilt- there are crystals in bubbles floating up the quilt from different (sea life) this was my first bargello, a special quilt for my oldest granddaughter (then 12) who let me know the quilt on her bed i made when she was 4...it was time for something new- ('i love blue & dolphins') was her (idea) :) it was a challenge- but worth every minute of the work.

Here's mine. This one took me a year and a half. It was machine pieced, needle turned 3 dimensional appliqued, and I hand quilted this one. I made it for my daughter who loves it. It is one of my favorite quilts and may make one for myself. The third photo is a close-up while I was quilting it.
