That is ingenious of you! Good thinking - what size was your "template" and I guess it wasn't necessary to make up a top of squares first??

I suppose the size of the template is the measurements of the lenght and width of it? I cut the strips at 4 and 3/4 on the lenght of grain. You then stack up 4 strips, all right sides up, use the micro pen to trace around the template and cut out with the rotary cutter and ruler, turning the strips as needed. I used scraps so the strips weren't that long. If you are using yardage, you can control how long you make the strips. I usually cut a half yard off and cut the stips on the lenght of grain.

You do not have to make up a square as you are cutting the exact patch and it goes fast to sew them up....no waste and saved sewing time.

Love your colors and design. Can't get my head around how you cut it out but maybe if I try it I will get it. I think you are putting all the colors on on top of the other and cutting them and then moving the pieces around but I will try it. Yours is so pretty.
