Consider that if they were selling them for $2.50, they probably viewed them as valueless/worthless and had no one purchased them, those excellent machines might have been put on the curb as trash! You didn't buy them so much as rescue them! Well done.

The gal in charge just asked me to make an offer when she saw me looking at them. I looked at the mildew all over the machines and wondered what I would be getting myself into. I figured if she would take $5 for the both of them, it might be worth it to me to try to refurbish them. I'm glad I did. I'll post pics if I ever get them done. Thanks for all the encouragement!

I have been sewing on my 401A since I purchased it in 1962. It is a great machine. I paid around $260.00 for it (including the cabinet), which was quite a bit a money back then. It has made clothing, doll clothes, quilt tops. I love it. You made quite a haul!

I would say you have a bargain there.

I have seen beautiful side tables made out of a treadle base. A little spray paint and a top of any kind. Wood with a clean edge or a scrap of dark granite to match all the black gears and fancy scroll work would be beautiful.

Is that one a singer golden touch and sew model 630? I am desperately looking for one as I already have one and need another one to help me fix this one. If it is would you be willing to sell it? I love this machine. It is what I bought with my first income tax check back in 1969. I amde $20.00 a month payments on that machine and love it to this day. Please let me know if it is and if you would sell it. PLEASE???????

Dear Friend,
I wish it were! It sounds like a fabulous machine. The one I have here is a 600E Touch and Sew. If that matches up, you can just have it for shipping! It obviously needs work - a cleaning at least. I haven't begun looking it over to see what it needs, if anything. I will certainly be on the lookout for one for you, no matter what.

I think you did great. They don't put them out for sale here. Not often. and Not for that price.
Have you tried to research on line? I know I am not much help.
