Quilt frame
#11
My dad built one similar for my mom and my grandmother used one like it. Two side pieces (placed on opposite sides) had canvas leaders stapled on so that the quilt sandwich could be pinned on to it. They also had holes drilled on each end. The other two side pieces had holes drilled approx. 2 inches apart on the whole length. Long heavy nails or bolts were used in those holes to hold the boards tight and the quilt was rolled up towards the center as the quilting was completed. The same could be accomplished using C-clamps instead of holes and bolts. Using this type of frame eliminated the need for basting the quilt sandwich, but also took up a lot of floor space.
