Default Quilted Tops -- but not by me!

So... as we know by now, last year was not my favorite year. But a wonderful thing happened just about the time I dropped out of site.

A lovely quilter from this site who is semi local and I were chatting about whether or not she wanted to go professional with her long arm. Lot of questions/am I good enough all that. Some of it was about dealing with different styles of projects so I offered some of my donation tops as practice pieces. She is good enough but if she does go pro, she did not like the batting I provided!

The turtle is just a panel + one border. I am so stymied by how to quilt such things, I like her choice. She double batted.

"Confetti" came from a project from a member on the board and box of pre-cut squares -- I pulled out the novelty fabrics and a consistent confetti frame went together in no time.

The next shot is one answer to "how to make a back with two 3-yard pieces of fabric", it is the back to Confetti.

"Elephant Walk" came as two pieces from the thrift store, added a border.

The "purple donation" was another thrift store find, awkwardly shaped, I added 1-2 rows-- I had some of the same fabrics as already used so threw those in!

You two make a great team.. I admire how you find the quilt tops and turn them into a lovely donation quilt with your design ideas!
Its great you are giving your friend lots of practice with these projects....but...why doesn't she like your batting?

Oh, I wish she was going to be my Best Quilting Friend Forever! We turned out to be very similar in many ways. Sadly, we are too far apart (we each drove about 30 minutes to meet up midway) and she is still working a very busy full time career for another year or two -- it is still up to me to try and finish my tops!

I typically like fluffy poly batts, I think the quilter in question is more of a warm and natural type. As I understand, some of what she wanted to practice were the robotics and they did not have an easy time of it.

I really like this roll of batting but I don't think I can ever get it again anyway. Bought it on line as a close-out, think it is not a standard retail brand but a run for a small manufacturer of some sort.

Great job with all the finishes. It's fun to someone quilting journey and their progress. I'm sure the quilter has gained a new confidence level thanks to your encouragements!

The quilts look fun and colorful!

I love all of them and I think the way you did the backing is genius!

All of them are beautiful. Great color choices. Quilter did a great job.

I also like hi-loft poly batting, mostly on my own quilts. I buy project fleece for kids donation quilts. I have bought queen size for my own QAYG quilts. I just buy packages of battings at Walmart. No room for batting rows.

I need a quilting friend too!!! I have a Tiara and love the quilting process once I get started, but my tops are backing up. I still get nervous to start quilting and ponder forever on how to proceed. I just need to jump in with both "hands" and get them done and out the door. I do have a dear friend who has a long arm but she is 6 mos. out and 2 hours, one way, away. That's why I got a Tiara and love the convenience. Your quilts came out lovely. You are so creative with your scraps.
