It's true if you have an electronic machine. Don't get them too close to your machine. I have one of the magnetic wands that I use after I'm done sewing to pick up pins but I keep it in the closet and only bring it out when I use it.

If you have a sewing machine that has lots of electronic programs in it you need to be careful using the magnets close to the machine. Supposedly it can mess up a machine. Other than that those magnetic pin catchers sound like a great idea.

That was the case years ago when computerized machines first came out. They now put protection on machines. Ask you dealer about it.

That said, I have the magnet and have found it to be a lifesaver when I have spilled all my pins on the floor. To be safe, I keep my magnet a healthy distance from my sewing machine.

I got mine from Harbor Freight also. They are perfect when you're taking apart machines and don't want to lose any of those teeny tiny screws. Learned that the hard way...one small 1/4" screw cost me $10+shipping to replace

I have two of them, got them at WalMart in the Automotive Dept. They are great, even you drop them the pins don't fall out and the best part is they were only $6.00 each.
