quilts for service members

We have all heard about QOV or quilts of valor, there are also numerous other groups making quilts for troops wounded in the war.
But do you remember the Homefront quilt project started by a teenage girl? You can read her updated story here:

My family and I spent the summer of 2003 making quilts for the families of fallen soldiers.
here is just a few of the 35 quilts we finished in 10 weeks!
My children also made lap quilts for veterans in wheel chairs the following summer.

It's wonderful to see kids acknowledge others. It truly makes them a better person.
As a Mom with a son in the service (thankfully not needing one of your quilts), thank you for your efforts and appreciation.

notice all those rail fence quilts..that is what my kids learned to cut strips on and they learned that the perfect 1/4" seam DOES matter..hehehe
my daughter hated the ripping out...but 3 years later when she joined the AF and we sent her machine out to her, she made a baby quilt totally from memory using the rail fence pattern!

Our daughter(my step actually) had just to come to live with us that summer and she needed some direction/purpose in her life at the point...it was a true blessing in disguise to have her so busy!
She went on to join the AF and is in her 6th year now! She just returned from her 2nd deployment to the sand box!
