I remember these! The blocks look fabulous.

I'd probably go for the red - but much narrower. And the idea upthread of combining 4 without sashing is interesting.

Or what to do they look like with a thinner sashing but dropped a half-block? Or on point?

I'm for anything that avoids the ubiquitous squares in a grid layout. ;-)

I agree I like the red but I think it should be thinner then what has been shown.

This block is amazing. How many pieces are in it anyway? How many have you made? You are dogged, Mamma!
Thanks everyone!! Each block is 104 pieces. I made 12 of them, for a grand total of 1,248 pieces. :)

Here are some with skinnier sashing and one without any sashing.

Either the red or white but red would be my choice.

This is Carol Doak's Alaska block, from her 50 Fabulous Paper-Pieced Stars book.

Red makes the quilt pop. Black & blue really does nothing for it.
White would be my second choice.

I read all the threads and agreed about red, and thinner sashing but now that I see it without sashing ... I like the secondary pattern of no sashing.

Very nice block! I have one of Carol's books - gonna have to see if this block is in it. Love the block!
