Scrap jar block.

Again, thanks for all the compliments! I made it into a place mat, made a mess of the binding but hey! it looks ok from the front since I machine sewed it front to back rather than other way round. Btw the whole thing had been pressed and starched to within an inch of its life lol

Not bad at all for a newbie. I've seen worse out of people who have been piecing quilts for years. Just keep trying and you will be a pro before you know.... I'd put it in a quilt. Its really very pretty. Or, perhaps a pillow.

I usually oversize my HST's and then use my BlocLoc ruler to square up to a perfect size. Here is their website. They aren't cheap but I just finished 800 - 2 1/2" HST's and they went together perfectly. No affiliation.

You block looks good, especially for a beginner, but even for an experienced quilter. You picked lovely fabrics and your piecing is good! If you look super close at a lot of quilts you will see that no one is perfect. So give yourself a big pat on the back for doing such a challenging block so well!

I am new to quilting and the few things that I have made have been pretty simple. But I love looking at the various blocks that people make and I had a look round the internet to find something that I like the look of. I found a scrap jar tutorial and thought "how hard can it be?". Well yeah, I found out how hard it can be My cutting for some reason is totally off which lead to some HSTs being completely wonky and some of the smaller squares being slightly more rectangular than square. But overall i'm happy with what I managed to make. And we all know that practice makes perfect

Edit: I've just noticed that the piecing on the outer corners is wrong too. Oh well, just as well its not going into a quilt!
