    Thanks for all the lovely replies. I knew I had when cutting the HSTs that I had somehow managed to cut them wrongly but fabric is precious and since I wasnt doing anything special with this block I used them anyway. I think I might just make this into a dinner place mat, its 12" square so will fit a plate nicely and I have other scraps I can use to make a couple more, so thanks for the ideas folks

    Your block is pretty! It looks good. I still have those issues of things getting wonky and not being even around the edges of the block, especially with HST pieces. Even when my blocks aren't the greatest, they still get sewn together and the wonkiness can be quilted out. I think you're doing great!
