I have a new friend at work. Well, she got here a few months after me, almost 3 years ago, but I say new cause we are finally buddies after spending some time getting to know eachother. She's much younger than me and just starting out her adult life. She doesn't know how to cook and I've been giving her easy recipes to help her along. I bought her a little kit last year for Christmas that had a oven mitt, a small square baking dish, and brownie mix.

Apparently, it's the only mitt she has. I love these and would like to make her several. Do you have a specific pattern for these or did you make it up as you went along? I can make up quilting motifs as I go, piecing patterns NOT so much.

I would love to make some like this.

Sorry to be so slow to respond but I haven't been on QB for a few days. I have a lot of scraps and had just started some blocks using strips. From that there were smaller pieces left and then I saw a picture somewhere showing someone had made scrappy potholders and I decided to give it a try. There is no pattern at all to these. They are just random using scraps I had on hand.

You may get some ideas if you look up scrappy quilts and maybe even scrappy potholders. Pinterest website would be a good place to look or maybe on Etsy. You could also make a mug mat she could use at home or at her desk at work. Good luck and please PM me if you have any other questions. I'm happy to answer. It's just I check my email more than I do the QB sometimes.

I found a couple on pinterest. Then there's some cute ideas on allpeoplequilt.com. I know I want to make a placemat sized mats so she can use them as hot pads. Maybe make some orphaned blocks on purpose or something and make them as pot holders and a matching mitt. I'm still formulating some ideas. I pinned a couple of them. I love quilting, but venturing into the sewing world has backfired in my face so often I don't sew a lot. I'm trying to think of them as little quilts or something. I really want to make her some for Christmas.
