I also have a screen door into my sewing room. Of course the cats tore up the screen but I out-smarted them. I put plastic latice over the door. They can climb the door but still can't get in. Having the door "open" also helps me to hear the phone in the livingroom when it rings.

I have a baby gate on my sewing room. We don't have animals but I have 3 little grandsons and my sewing room is terrifically tempting. Too many sharp things, hot things, and machines.

This reminded me of a friend. When her son was a baby, they put a screen door on his bedroom door to keep the cat out and to be able to hear him. So what you did is not so strange.

    Thank you
