You can also utilize small space with stack bins.

Great idea and use of the bed if it has to stay!

a friend of ours had her daughter in a tiny room. the kid HAD to have a double bed. so she got four unpainted dressers and put them 2 on each side back to back and put one double mattress on a piece of plywood on top of the whole thing.
happy kid, lots of dressers. lots of space. this could work for you, too. put the mattress up off the floor on top of storage units like dressers or shelves. use the storage and people can still sleep up there. you'd have lots of storage for your stuff without getting rid of the bed.

You might as well get all the sewing things put into kits so you want have to have to much out at a time.
Realty don't like a lot of stuff sitting out. The more you get boxed up the better for you in the long run.

Bamanmommy, Do you remember a TV show called "Green Acres"?
This was from a lot of years ago. Loved it. He wanted to live in the country and she was a CITY girl. Great show.

Each day take one section of your room. Make 3 piles, pile 1 is keep, pile 2 maybe and pile 3 get rid of. Then have DH take the get rid of crap to Good Will. When your maybe pile gets big, go through it again and I'm sure you'll have another pile for DH. Put the keep piles in boxes or totes and start stacking them in a the cleaned section of your room and then go to another section etc. and you'll get organized. DH will be so proud of you and your organized crap.

Actually, I'd keep the bed. Bedrooms are selling points for buyers. It's hard to sell in this economy and the chances of a potential buyer being a sewer or crafter are probably slim. But I'm sure they'll want bedrooms! Good luck!

Thank you all for the great advise. If you don't mind, I am going to post updated pictures as I go so that hopefully it will help me see the progress and not get discouraged.

The closet is a mix of things...Tubs of fabric, Tubs of clothes that I don't want to get rid of (ie. my "skinny" clothes), Office Supplies, and File Cabinet with all important documents. If anyone is looking for good quality fabric let me know. I had a bunch listed but I guess I didn't meet the requirements to post a classified ad so they pulled it.

Part of our problem with this place is that the square footage is very poorly arranged. The builder decided to put in a loft area and took the space away from the bedroom. The bedroom measures 8 x 10 and the loft area is 5 x 12. That 5 feet would be so much better if it was in the spare bedroom...but that isn't something I can change.

Oh yes, I remember green acres. Loved that show!!! If he takes me too far into the country, that may be us. LOL
