Show us your bravery - show us the ugliest quilt you ever made.

well, i haven't seen an ugly quilt yet. some may not be my choice of fabrics/colors/patterns, but all are good enough to be used or gifted. of all of the quilts posted on the QB over the years, there are only one or two i've felt were ugly. sometimes we are just too hard on ourselves.

My first quilt was in the 70's. I made it with 6" squares of leftover upholstery velvets from work. I used chalk to mark the squares, cut them out with huge upholstery scissors, sewed them into long strips, and then sewed the strips together. Needless to say, getting corners to match was impossible! I used a poly batting and backed it with a sheet. Tied it with pearl cotton, and had to pull the needle through with pliers. It was pretty, but way too heavy to sleep under. I eventually gave it to a thrift store...

. This is the ugliest quilt I ever made...so far. Not only is it ugly, but when I first finished it, I had sewn one row on with the stripes turned the wrong way. Had to rip it out and redo it. Thankfully, when my daughter saw it, she loved it. It was immediately hers...get it out of the house.

In retrospect I expect most of my early quilts were unattractive.
But I thought they were beautiful at the time and they were used until they wore out.
I think that is a better life and death of a quilt's story than stored in a box or closet or under a bed because it is too good to use.
