I love your quilt. I made one with a plain background but I like your better. I need to make another one. I just posted a rag quilt made with shirts and flannel. Maybe we should call ourselves Sister's of the Plaid. Love Bonnie and her designs.

I read a blog post by Bonnie where she was teaching how to select "neutrals" for background colors. It was not what you would think! So I gave it a try. The stars don't stand out as obviously as if the background was all muslin, but I like it.

I will post a picture of the finished quilt when done, never fear!

Oh yes, I saw your flannel rag quilt, dmarie. It's the prettiest rag quilt I've ever seen!

Here it is... I found it! Bonnie Hunter's tute on selecting neutrals for the backgrounds. You may be surprised:
http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2013/...-neutrals.html

Another trick for deciding which fabs could be background 'neutrals' was to hold the fab in question in front of my pile of darks (for stars) and also hold them in front of my pile of neutrals I had already selected. Then you ask yourself which they blend with better, and which they contrast with... sometimes you have to squint to see only the value.

I have to agree. I don't like rag quilts, but who could resist this one?
