Default Two firsts for me today

I've been toying with learning paper piecing for a long time and, with the encouragement of QuiltE, plus a sale on Carol Doak's class on Craftsy, I took the plunge this week.
This morning I made my very first paper pieced block, then I made its mirror image. Next, combine the two of them into my very first mug rug. This is the front of my bird of paradise meets the colourful sea mug rug.

And this is the back.

I had issues with the binding and I never have issues with binding. Maybe because this piece was important to me. That is usually the case. The more you fret, the worse it gets.
Still, I'm pleased.
And yes, QuiltE, there will be more paper piecing in my future. Just not likely the near future.

The Lady has launched herself into the world of PPing!

Congratulations W4Me
... great job on the maiden voyage.

How clever to do it double sided ...... Perfect coordinating fabrics for all.

Thank you everyone.

The front borders and back fabric are all from the same piece of fabric. It had several sections - fishies, shells and checkerboard. So they better darn well co-ordinate, or else.

The sea fabric was not the original fabric that the pp colours were chosen from. I decided I hated that fabric so went searching for a substitute. Fishies were too fun not to use, especially for a first attempt.

Nicely done.

QE likes to think she's got me converted to PP! Will do it when I "have" to, but not my favorite method. In all fairness she led me "kicking and screaming" to trying it.
