2013 Fabric Moratorium
#261
I needed a quilt back so off to the thrift store to get a blue sheet for the back. I did find one and it matches the front perfectly. While I was in the thrift store I couldn't resist getting 9 mens shirts and two yards of fabric that match 4 other quilts that I'm making. Our thrift store price is $5.00 for everything you can fit into a paper bag, so of course I just had to fill the bag. This doesn't count against me, right?

I say it does not count against you when you need it for something you are making. Of course, we are all supposed to look in our stash before we buy and that is what I have to do soon. Signed up for a Arrowhead block class and need 2 contrasting colors but if I have nothing in my stash that works, I will buy just enough to make a top and then the binding.

Um... I suck at this! I bought like 12 or more yards this weekend! But in my defense I only had enough quilting fabric for like 1 quilt.
My problem isn't quilting fabric (yet), my problem is apparel fabric. I SHOULD be sewing clothing. But I just keep sewing quilts, so I run out, and "need" more!

Happy birthday IrishRose! Of course you can have fabric for your birthday!
Mooshie, it sounds like you need to find someone with the opposite problem and swap some fabric with them, lol. I've never been one to sew clothing. Blankets, bags, wallets, placemats, curtains, etc have always been my thing. I tried making a shirt in replica of another I loved that was about a half size too snug about a year ago, and the neck turned out terrible, so I can't wear it. Thankfully I bought the fabric on clearance, so I didn't feel so bad about it.

I did quite well on my birthday shopping trip. I found white roses on black for the back of the quilt on the design wall, but I did purchase on that is homeless for now. Coral flowers on black. Too hard to resist with a 50% off coupon. Happy birthday to me. The other coupons went for notions and beads.

Ooh, now THAT would work very well! I should start looking for someone like that around here.

I've been a Baaaaaaaaddddddddd girl...I came across an ad on Craigslist for trash bags full of fabric.....I couldn't even lift them, they were so stuffed..Weighed about 70 pounds each...All for $3 a bag!! Some I didn't particularly like, but cut small enough it will look great in a scrappy or string quilt...I also found 2 of the fabrics I was going to have to buy for a graduation quilt I had been asked to make....I figure buying those 2 fabrics would have cost me more than the $6 I paid for the 2 bags...Oh well..this will keep me busy getting the fabric organized and the small stuff cut for my scrap bins..Oh and she also threw in a bag stuffed with velvet, satin and lace...Looks like the grandbabies will get some new clothes and hair bows!

Well irishrose I think birthdays are exempt from moratoriums.(many happy returns!)..and Pat625....you were not "bad"...totally amazing, screaming bargains are exempt too I reckon (I am soooo envious...what great fun rummaging through that lot!).
I am still firmly on the wagon....managed to drive by Textile Traders when I met up with my youngest son the other day. Went charity shopping yesterday and avoided the fabric pile (just bought a skirt and a blouse as one store had a half price sale). Have been deleting without reading all the amazing emails from my favourite fabric stores....So, am managing to stick with it so far. Don't know if total avoidance is the "cure" but it seems to be working for me.

Well I finally kinda got my fabric stored yesterday. I'm not sure if I'll leave it like it is or not. I still really don't have a whole lot of room to buy anymore though. I still have a box full of stuff that wouldn't fit in the 6 drawers I bought, and there's not room to stack another 3-drawer unit on top. I don't think my boyfriend would let me have the whole closet in there either. Where else would his golf clubs, the kitchenaide mixer, and his box of photos (that badly needs to be scanned) from college and his teenage years live? Oh yeah, can't forget the stack of pillows for our house guests that we have 1-2 times a year and our 3 Christmas decorations (we're rarely home for Christmas, so what's the point? The rest, aka my stuff, is in storage.)
