Angelia, this is a beautiful and intriguing quilt. All the subpatterns are marvelous. The circles, diamonds , rectangles and squares that make up the whole thing are just so fascinating. Great job using the humble fence rail into such a cool design.

Default February Challenge

How are the X blocks coming? I'm hoping that my blocks will "talk" to me and tell me what I should with them.
I'm using a limited color palette from the challenge fabric. No warm colors and grey as my neutral. These are not my normal colors.

Spray sizing and a revolving cutting board help the X blocks go together smoothly.

I'm having a LOT of fun with the X block using the author/designer Sharon Craig's template from the book. I was ready to make a kid quilt, so I chose to do a 9-block child size throw for charity. The colors in the inspiration piece ("jewel tones and neutrals" you said) are very similar to what I decided to use, but I went with a more juvenile "feel" since that one was what I interpreted as "grown up."

I have 5 blocks sewn so far.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's X blocks. I had to sit out the February challenge--just too much going on--but I'm looking forward to March. I'm hoping to do February later when I have a bit more time.

Default March Challenge

Good morning,

February flew by and it's time to start the March challenge. We will be using challenge #3 on pages 22-27.

The Challenge Block is meant to be used as a unit in your design. You may use the pattern from the book, make yours wonky or change the proportions of the block. Feel free to make your challenge blocks more than one size.

Challenge Block colors are limited to red and white or cream.

You may add all the colors you wish to complete your project.

Have fun!

PS... I loved the stories that go with the quilts for challenge #3, especially The Survivor and Roasted Chicken by Margret Reap.

Red face February Challenge Reveal

My February challenge is not ready for the end of month reveal.

I tried lots of different settings before deciding on one and ended up framing the blocks. I had made lots of X blocks and wanted to use as many of them as possible. Framing the blocks made the quilt grow to twin size and I needed more fabric.

A hunt through my stash for one more fabric came up empty. After checking local stores, I had to order some online. I think background, border and backings are "legal" on the stash busting challenge? I'll post a photo as soon as it's to flimsy stage.
