2025 UFO Challenge
#241
Snooze, way back in January, Happylab suggested that some of us may like the motivation of a once a month challenge to finish a UFO. She asked that those who to wanted to give this method of tackling UFOs a try to make a list of quilts they want to finish and number them 1 to 12, aka one a month. Each month she would pull a number out of a "hat" and that is the quilt we would work on for that month. It was not a requirement to be part of the group and many like you, just worked through your pile of UFOs successfully finishing projects. Others enjoyed the fun of not knowing that quilt in our pile would be chosen next to finish in any particular month. Happylab has offered an end of the year small gift to any one who did all 12 of their UFOs on their list.
The whole idea was to just keep us motivated to complete UFOs. Not required. In my case, I made my list, found more UFOs, expanded my list and did at least one a month but I did not always finish the "number of the month" for what ever reason. In the end, for me having the number each month kept me moving forward on finishing my UFOs.
Congratulation on working toward finishing such a large quilt with custom quilting! Understood why one month would not be long enough!
Keep at it and please post a photo at any point. Finished and progress toward finished are always encouragement for the rest of us.
I hope to see you again in 2026 UFO Challenge.....Well of course unless you have all of your UFO's finished! Tee-Hee-Hee!

I still have smaller UFOs I'll try to finish in 2026 and it looks like I'll have the one huge one to still work on in January as I doubt I'll get it done in December, next month. Also I just found someone that was interested in a quilt I designed myself around a Tree of Life panel so now I have a reason to finish it..........YEAH!!!! So another UFO out of my house next year.

Here is my UFO for this month. It is Harrisonburg by Wendy Sheppard and promoted by Pat Sloan as a fund raiser for the Virginia Quilt Museum two or may be three years ago. It has taken me about 18 months to bring it to the finish line. I will be gifting it to one of my nieces this Christmas.

Quossum, I would use this pattern again. It really took a lot of organization of multiple colors or each block for the main blocks but they were not hard. (Extreme organization is not my best skill.
) Those little diamond around the edges was what REALLY took time and there were no directions on how many of what color, so I played with scraps and just tried too balance the colors. Another time another color way.

OK my UFO Finishers, we have reached month 12 of 2025. Can you squeeze in one more UFO before December 30th? I know it will be hard. On the other hand, when I was scrolling through the thread, I was amazed at the number of UFO quilts that have been finished this year by the group.
For those of you who are completing the numbered quilt challenge that Happylab started, you can finish either #5 or #11, which ever you have not yet finished this year.
I scrolled through the conversations and I think this is an accurate list of the numbers that were posted for this year. If you finished all of these, let Happy Lab know and let us know too. She will send a little something to those who have finished all 12.

Well, it looks like I just might have a finish for December though I started quilting it in November. I'm finally on the last row and today I made up the layout for the 2 larger blocks so that takes up a lot of time just trying to figure out how to quilt them. The smaller blocks betweem them have already been decided as each side has the same smaller blocks. So if luck is with me, I might get this bad boy done witht he quilting by the end of the week. It's been long time coming. I made this quilt top I think back in 2016 or 2017 so it'a a very old UFO.

Yes! I finished the UFO from my friend's mother and I will return it to her this Thursday. It is not the greatest quilt on the planet by any means. I kept coming across possible reasons why she abandoned it (1) backing put on wrong, probably discovered when she had done a significant amount of handquilting on it (2) lumpy poly batting (3) used sheet for backing and it was hard to needle (4) occasional popped seam (5) nearly impossible to put in hand frame for quilting etc. All that being said, it is a warm. serviceable quilt that I can picture Chip (her grandson) sitting in a hunting blind with a thermos of coffee and gloves wrapped in a late gift from his grandma.
