I finished up my Round Robin participation as planned so I'd be freed up for the Mystery.

My Tuesday group ladies assure me that they can provide me with the grey fabrics I don't have. I need to go over the directions again, but were there any colors specifically mentioned as being good for a single fabric this year (like last year's Parakeet)?

Bonnie did not mention using a constant fabric this year, but she did say the quilt would work well using one fabric per color.

This is my almost final edit of my fabric (I removed a few of the reds after this photo). My fabrics are all pressed now, so ready to go!

Ok, thanks for the response Joe's Mom, I went through the directions and printed the pdf. I'm going to try to keep pretty close to her color groupings and keep a clear difference between red/orange/gold. I noticed that the amounts of those, plus the green are all pretty equal. Also need to make sure there is clear difference between the neutrals and the greys, I might stick pretty strictly to white on white without colors or tones, but I don't think I have enough in stash... if I open it up a bit to cream or colors in the fabric I have plenty.

I was sort of hoping to use single fabrics, but I don't really have a single piece of anything suitable to substitute for the grey. I may look at a piece of blue yardage that is big enough and would work with the red/orange/yellow but to find another the right green or another color that would work for the green might be the hard part. I'll have to go stare at her pictures a bit more and maybe go out and get the paint chips. I think the right shade of lavender or collection of purples could easily be switched for the grey but unfortunately, I've made a point of using up purples in the last couple of years.

Otherwise, I'm going scrappy with the grey I might as well with the rest of it and keep as true to Bonnie's colors as I can. So my first stop will be my box of 6.5" strips to find what is waiting before I get into the yardage boxes.

I decided to try my hand on one of her mysteries so this my first BH....I like the colors of this one and I should be done with current project in time. We’ll see...in the meantime, I kitted up my starter set of fabrics. Not reflected are the neutrals but I have tons of this and will just grab as I go. I have a huge amount of the gold polka dot that is the balance of a bolt I had and I’d really like to use some of it up so I may just go with one single fabric for gold. I have more of each colorway and will pull as needed. So, I’m ready...looking forward to sewing with you’all...

So glad you're joining in, Teen! I love that gold polka dot; it looks like a perfect match to the paint chip.

joe’smom and Teen: I love your fabric choices.

I’m still on the fence if I’m joining in or not. If I do, I will only make 1/2 or maybe 1/3rd of the units. I can always use the blocks as a center and add borders to make it larger.

Your fabrics look terrific, Joe's Mom. I'm still torn about using her colors or venturing out on my own. I think I have enough greys, but I don't know if I want a quilt that is so heavy in that color.

While I am still on the fence about participating in Grassy Creek, I will be lurking on this thread. I have done three BH mysteries and still have to quilt and bind last year’s finish.

Joe’s mom and Teen, Great fabric selection ... I can’t wait to see how your quilts come together.
