Nice quilt!!! I love the way you incorporated the white pattern.

MadQuilter 01-08-2015 08:40 PM

I love scrappy quilts and this one is a beauty.

Alawai 01-09-2015 07:43 AM

Count me in! Organizing is one of my main goals this year. Joining one or more of these swaps is a good idea! Helps with the reduction process.

ekuw 01-09-2015 09:02 AM

Put me down too! I have 3 quilt kits that were gifted to me (one even has the backing) that I plan on doing and another QIP that I will finish. Those don't even require my stash! I only plan on buying backing fabric as needed. Once I get through those, stash only. So many quilts, so little time :-)

SuziSew 01-09-2015 10:23 AM

This sounds like a great idea but I fell off the wagon before I got started!:o LQS had a 3 hour sale on Jan 1...it's hard to say no to 50% off!

Rhonda Lee 01-09-2015 04:07 PM

Jarenie: Love what you've done with your scraps. The quilt is really inviting, sit down and read or just cuddle for warmth.

Connie, lovely quilt!!

I know, right? I now get text coupons as well and my DH is a total enabler, forwarding me his coupons also. I've told him a couple times "Thanks, but I don't have anything I need right now." He seemed a little confused at that response the first time, lol, but I think he's learning that I'm trying to change my spending habits.

AUQuilter 01-11-2015 06:26 AM

I am in! Working on finishing UFOs and the backings will come from the stash. Hope to bust a about 15 yds to finish these. Woohoo!

I just finished a quilt top made entirely from my stash! Step one on the stash reduction/fabric moratorium for this year :) Actually, I have two I can call completed today, but the second one was made last year as a block of the month, so I pulled the fabric from stash then and just finished the borders this week. So I won't count that into my 2015 achievements :)

This top has a scrappy white background, because I didn't have enough of any one white for the quilt. And scrappy reds. The black is the leftover the from the last quilt top I just finished.

Kristakz...what a striking red, white and black quilt you made. Love it!

oksewglad 01-11-2015 08:19 AM

Love your stash quilt, kristakz! Striking is the word for sure.

sunrise450 01-11-2015 09:01 AM

Your quilt is beautiful, kristakz. I am starting the mystery train ride and using what I have on hand. I have been gathering just my scraps together and am amazed at what I have! A little embarrassed also. I should never have let this happen!

jolo 01-11-2015 09:19 AM

I joined last year and it helped to reduce my stash only a little. I swear mine increased at nights while I slept. lol. I did only scrappy quilts and want to continue in this all of this year. I just finished B Hunters MQ and would you believe I still dont miss any scraps. Now I have started Judy's #8 mystery train ride. Hope that will help some too. BUT I may have to buy backings and I know I will have to get batting. Oh well.......

jolo 01-11-2015 09:36 AM

Have to add a PS. I live next door to a fabric shop and the owner is an enabler. lol!!!!!

I used a total of 5 yards from my stash of pre quilted double sided fabric to finish the sandwich part of these baby quilts. I'm happy! :)

Connie

MadQuilter 01-11-2015 05:34 PM

What a great quilt, kristakz. It is stunning.

teacher09 you found the perfect use for leftovers.

I on the other hand deserve 10 lashes with a wet noodle. Went to the LQS yesterday because I needed to buy more FQs for the FQ birthday swap. I had already bought some of them previously but then I cleaned my stash. While there, a Moda red-white-and-free jelly roll found its way in my possession. Not quite sure how that happened. I guess I needed to release some estrogen since we were going to the Sportsman's Expo right after and I would be in testosterone hell for the afternoon. Yes, that's it! Hormonal rescue shopping.

SandyinZ4 01-11-2015 06:34 PM

Martina, You get a pass...if only to release that estrogen. I personally would give you a pass any day for anything red and white...free or not!

Thanks, Sandy. No - the jelly roll wasn't free. The fabric line is called red-white-and-free.

oksewglad 01-11-2015 07:02 PM

Great use of stash fabric, retiredteacher09.

Had all this fabric all these magazines....thought...hmmmm...why don't I match some fabric with some of these patterns in some of these magazines....what a concept...LOL. This is called Animal Crackers from the spring 2012 Quilts and More magazine. Fabric is all from my stash. Size is 42.5 X 50.5 and will be used to hide a very ugly renovated wall that just doesn't seem to ever get finished...LOL photo was taken by iPad and does not show how vibrant or the pattern of the material very well at all.

Hcim55 I love the bright colors it looks like such a happy quilt!

Here's the mug rug I made and coasters!

I hope my swap partner isn't on here ! hee hee Here is a mugrug I made and a set of 2 coasters from my stash so far for 2015. Do you think the quilting looks ok? I've only done a couple of things like this on my older Pfaff model 78.

calla 01-12-2015 04:54 PM

Well I thought I was doing good.....but........than the mail ran. And I received some fabric sqs. from a sample thingie I joined last year.......also I need to include with the fabric fasting book and magazine fasting........calla

Rhonda Lee 01-12-2015 06:46 PM

OK it's January 12th and I have not spent any money on fabric, patterns, magazines or dies; however, I have looked at them. The fabric I looked at would of cost me over $75. The patterns a mere $15, the magazine $8.00 and the dies at least $65. So, if I just don't buy the stuff I've got an extra $163. At this rate I'm going to be very rich before the end of the year gets here. Right? Sigh...

Well Calla, how are you doing on the fast? Are you ok?

SandyinZ4 01-12-2015 06:50 PM

Hcim55...The Animal Crackers quilt is great. Glad you thought to match fabric to magazine articles!
Rhonda L...I like how you do your math and you should be rolling in dough if you make it through the year.LOL!
Sewred..your MR and coasters are great. Someone will love them.

Rhonda Lee 01-13-2015 10:34 AM

Ohh such wonderful creations are here to enjoy!

Krista, I loved your beautifully designed quilt. What a joy to look at.
Hcim55, your Animal Cracker quilt soothed me. I thought I was looking at an ocean of water. How smart of you.
Sewred, mug rugs and coasters what a delightful gift and how darling they are.

Good job with using that stash and not buying more fabric than needed, way to go!!

Rhonda Lee 01-13-2015 10:40 AM

Ok, here we go. Today I saved about $50. I didn't buy the special on MSQT. Even though the special did not cost $50, I would of spent at least that amount because I like to justify the shipping cost of $5.00, so I always buy more. It doesn't have to make sense to understand that right? I'm adding the $50 to the $163 so now I've got at least an extra $200!

Marti1943 01-13-2015 03:08 PM

Very nice. Like the colors.

MadQuilter 01-13-2015 07:25 PM

Good thinking, Rhonda Lee.

kristakz 01-14-2015 05:16 AM

Unfortunately, I'm off to the LQS today to pick up 1/2 yard of fabric. I have a good excuse though - it's for binding on a UFO I am finishing this week. The trick will be to leave with *only* 1/2 yard and nothing else.

Lori S 01-14-2015 06:03 AM

I am counting this as a victory and maybe a sign of hope I can really do this, so far not a single purchase. Making it only a few weeks when there have been some great sales.... HUGE for me.

OOH, me too. Two whole weeks!!! I've been deleting all my fabric related emails, mailed my JoAnn coupons to my niece, quickly looked thru my Keepsake Quilting & Connecting threads catalogs & then threw them out. Tomorrow, however, I go to a club meeting at my LQS where they MAKE YOU walk by the markdown fabric section to get to the classroom. Devious. Wish me luck!

hoprigmom 01-14-2015 09:56 AM

Paper Princess, stay strong! You can do it. My girlfriend wants me to come up and visit her next week because the LSQ has 30% off. Neither one of us need any more fabric. I want to visit her, but I really need to stay away from the fabric stores. Besides not needing any more fabric, my budget is running rather tight this year.

sewred 01-14-2015 01:17 PM

Paper Princess think of all the fabric in your stash and what you want to make with it as you walk by maybe that will distract you!

Lori S 01-14-2015 04:28 PM

You can do this!!! BE STRONG! think about all the fabric at home just waiting for you to use it. Honor your stash by using it.

AngeliaNR 01-14-2015 06:28 PM

I bought a yard of fusible fleece and some zippers. I'm wanting to make my sister some zipper pouches for her birthday. I have plenty of fabric, but I didn't have the fleece or zippers. Does this count as a violation of the moratorium?

MadQuilter 01-14-2015 07:57 PM

No, Angelia - you are safe with those purchases, particularly since it was for your sister.

Princess, good luck. Just do the royal wave as you walk by.

Happy to report that I stayed strong (plus I didn't like anything they had).
My girlfriend just called and wants me to go on a mini shop hop on Monday, so that will be the next hurdle.

GailG 01-15-2015 08:43 AM

Just thought I'd share this funny with you. I needed thread and knew that there was an awesome sale going on at my LQS. The ladies know I am fabric "dieting" right now. As soon as I walked in the door, I place my cupped hands at the side of my face (as blinders on a horse) and told them that I was in the shop for thread ONLY. So they led me to the thread section which had been relocated since my last visit. I thanked them for helping me out.
