I'm getting a bit of a late start joining in on this, but I'm in for this year! My personal definition of UFO's is fairly broad this year: projects for which I have all the fabrics in the house (specifically earmarked for that project and thus set aside) are UFOs in my mind. I know this is much broader than most people here use, but aside from 2 quilts plus the one I am currently working on, I don't have any traditional UFOs. However, looking at a pile of fabric that's for a specific project that I still haven't started weighs heavily on my mind. I have the fabrics, I am committed, but I'm not doing... Time to change that this year!

My UFO list and their status:

So that makes 14 quilts that are marked UFOs right now. The Quilter's Academy quilts are kind of special. You make the tops without borders, then put them aside until chapter 8 where you put on the borders. And then you're left with a big pile to quilt. I'd love to get them all quilted this year, but if I manage it? I am glad it's only in Volume 1 that you do that, because I don't like the build-up of quilts that need quilting.

I didn't include the sampler quilt from Quilter's Academy Volume 1 because while it's in progress, it's not actually finished until Volume 2 and I just want to finish Volume 1 this year. I also didn't include the Final quilt, because I don't have any fabric set aside for that and thus it's not a UFO. Even though I would love to finish that quilt too this year. Likewise I didn't include my Dear Jane, because while I am collecting fabrics for that one, I don't feel I have enough to get started yet and thus it doesn't feel like a UFO.

Yes, I know, my rules for UFOs are weird, but it works for me. I hope you all don't mind me playing along even though my UFOs are non-traditional ones.

A UFO is a UFO and it is up to each of us to define the meaning. I believe that most of us (or MANY of us) have plenty of the traditional UFOs in our area to where we don't have to search for a different definition. :) I admire your organization and goals.

Okay, I'm calling this finished for now. Although I may end up deciding to add some FMQ in at some point, but I can't decide so I went ahead and bound it. It will be in the show I've got coming up at the end of March.

Rob, I really like how you quilted the wide line on the last quilt. Being offset like it is, it looks perfect with that quilt.

I really like your quilting on this - did you use an extra thick thread?

oops, I forgot to put in the original post that this was a UFO

Thanks Wildcard and OhCanada! The quilting was done using blue soutache to "ditch" around all the tumblers and an an orange cord that I couched down. This UFO was sitting in a pile for 4 years because I didn't want to face mitering all those corners for a traditional binding.

After I sandwiched the quilt, I used my PQ1500s and walking foot with it's fantastic straight stitch to couch the soutache in the ditch around all the tumblers. Then I switched to my PC420 with the cording foot and a 1.5 zigzag stitch to couch the orange cord down. I didn't need the walking foot for the orange cord because the soutache ditching held all the layers together well enough. Then I bound it using rattail to match the soutache which meant no need to miter binding on all those little points LOL.
