November has been added!
1 Attachment(s)
Hey all,
Here it is with the November high and low columns added. I'm starting to wonder how I'm going to incorporate a key and the months, days and H, L. Months, Days, High and Low can be added as borders, but key, Not sure about yet.... Rob |
Loving it, Rob. I'm putting my key on the back of my mine.
I'm about 2 weeks behind on mine. Will get caught up this weekend and incorporate November into the rest of the quilts. I cannot believe we've been doing this for almost one year! |
Looks great Rob

happy Christmas everyone. looking fwd to seeing all these finished items
|
Happy Holidays everyone!
|
I have the 1st three months sewn. The next 3 months are pinned. I just need to pin my next 6 months during out next VQW (which S/B around the 1st of the month, an extra session will be given this month:thumbup:). I have to make sure I have enough fabric for this project. It helps that we got cold this month. My game plan to have it completed by the end of January. Expect pics in January.
Anyway, Merry Christmas everyone. |
I have been missing from this thread since....... Oh, maybe March. But I am not moving this effort to my UFO pile. I have the pieces cut, and will gather the temperatures to finish this 2017 quilt. I love the concept. Work just got in the way. I am looking forward to seeing lots and lots of finishes.
|
Thinking of temperature quilts.. My outside temp went down to 8 degrees. Way too cold for my taste. Where is my 40 and 30's. We did have a white Christmas. It snowed .8" on Christmas eve and another 1" on 26th AM. It does look nice from the outside. I think it can now go away. That is enough snow and cold for me. I know to think we are just starting winter weather. I can hardly wait until March and spring. Being positive at least we can sew or quilt lots this time of year. Nothing but house work to distract us.

I'm way behind. I had surgery the end of Oct. and have been trying to play catch up ever since. Oct. and Nov. were done when I discovered a couple of the HSTs were reversed. Oct. is ripped out, now I need to get it sewn. There's one row in Nov. that needs to be ripped and resewn. I have all the temps for Dec, but not sewn yet. I'm still moving at half speed, but hopefully I'll get Oct and Nov done by the end of the year and will be able to work on Dec soon.
|
Just lurking and wanted to say that all these quilts are gorgeous... Such a creative idea each of you have designed. Looking forward to the finished products...
|
I really do want to finish this effort. I love the thought and challenge. I sat down yesterday afternoon with my 2017 calendar and computer and recorded all of the highs/lows from August to yesterday. I also dug through my pile of unfinished 2017 projects and moved the box of squares that are all cut and labeled by temperature to the my work table. Onward to work toward the end of 2017. Just one more belated Christmas Table runner/wall hanging then back to my temperature quilt!
|
Gramajo- Glad to hear you’re on the mend!
Connie and Happylab, I have also gotten behind. But it’s my own fault for letting myself get distracted with the new BH mystery LOL!. I’m hoping to get caught up on that today so I can spend the VQW getting December HSTs made and added to my Temp. Quilt. Looking forward to seeing everyone’s quilts! Rob |
Mines all up to date to28th Dec. will finish it when I get back 8th Jan.
|
Congrats, m-fay!

I just found this thread yesterday, and I'm looking forward to making a 2018 temperature quilt. I'm looking forward to seeing photos of the 2017 quilts after the New Year!
|
I started one in 2015 but it's an Afghan that I'm Crocheting. I love all the quilt ideas found here <3 I got side tracked working on it and I'm in the last of May. In Texas I decided to go with the low temperature for the day in order to get more color variation. New here so I don't know how to add a pic yet
|
Forgot to mention I crochet 1 row for each day. Did single crochet with a small hook b/c 366 days (rows) makes for a huge Afghan ;-)
|
I saw someone crocheting a temperature afghan a couple of years ago, so the idea was there. I thought about crocheting one this year, but decided the quilt would work better with my plan to do more quilting in 2018.

Hmm...some habits take time to forget :-) Today I went to check daily temperatures for yesterday. Silly me.
|
Those look great Imanna! I did the same thing (checking the previous day’s temp) yesterday!
Added highs for December to mine yesterday and Hope to get the December lows added today. Rob |
December H and L added!

Hey all, I finally got the Lows for December added. So the temperature part of my temperature quilt for 2017 is now complete. Just have to figure out borders and key, then quilt! I'm thinking this may go in the UFO pile for a while LOL. Here's a pic. so far it's about 56 x 71....
Rob |
Your quilt is beautiful Rob.
I completely missed this thread last year. I am not sure that I want to tackle one this year, but it is a great idea. Considering where I live, the West Coast of Canada, a precipitation quilt may be a better idea. |
Rob, a really nice quilt. Congrats! I’m looking forward to the completed project.
|
It looks great!

looks really good rob

Just finished sewing on the binding. Now to start on 2018's I'm going to keep the highs and lows separate this time and a greater range of colours.
|
m-fay, your quilt looks good. I'm doing one for 2018 and am using 22 colors, for below 0, 0-4, 5-9, ... through 100 and above. I've picked out the fabrics and will start cutting out pieces today. Less than two weeks and I'll be using 10 different fabrics already! I'm recording AM lows and PM highs.
|
Rob I love the quilt you made. Of course, I am always a sucker for hst.
Can I ask how you laid it out with the highs and low temps? |
mfay: I love your coloring...can tell without looking at your info you live in a really warm climate!
:) |
pchp your plan is almost the same as mine. I'm guessing you have Fahrenheit temp, we have celcius so I'm having about 45 colours and i'm going to do the highs and lows separate and sew the finished ones back to back.
red stilettoes yws we have a hood climate here on the west coast of Australia. Never any freezing days and only about 15 days in summer that go over 45C. Air conditioners are good |

That looks good mfay! I really like the layout you used!
Rob |
Thanks for explaining your layout Rob. It always intrigued me how you worked it out and the black really brings it out. I just did month by month and QAYG.
|
m-fay, yes I'm working with Fahrenheit. I like that you're doing a different fabric for each degree Celsius. I started assembling mine yesterday and hope to post a picture on the weekend.
|
I love this idea, Imanna. I'm going to start it this week. I'll just check back two weeks for the beginning. Thank you for sharing.

is anyone going to do one for 2018? I have started one. Its going to be simple...2 1/2" squares. 19 days across, then start the next row.and it will be 20 rows deep a white square at the end of each month. ! side of the finished quilt will be maximums and the back will be minimums. Also it will be celsius so a different fabric for each degree. Oc ...50C we never have below 0C where I live and we've never reached 50C.

Sort of . How about a do-over of 2017 in 2018?
Word to the wise - be very careful to not change your 1/4" seam measurement, thread weight, etc. over the course of the year. I apparently was not as careful as I thought. -I guess any time I was sitting down to sew a few more days into the rest of the quilt...my posture might have been different which could have thrown off my alignment for my seam allowances. - I recall trying a few different seam guidance methodologies over the course of the year. I thought they were all perfectly 1/4"...at the time - I used whatever thread was in the machine when it was time to sew some squares together. When sewing my rows together my seam allowances all seemed to line up ok vertically as the year was going along (with a little fiddling of the fabric). Bottom line - when I went to sandwich my temperature quilts and precipitation quilt they were all VERY wonky width wise. I tried stretching the heck out of them and pinning them and basting them to make them more close to square but to no avail. I discussed my issue with a friend who was also making a temperature quilt and she had the same issue. The difference is she considers hers good enough for her to move forward and finish it. Me....not so much. I lean more towards being a perfectionist so I am remaking mine. Yes, all 3 of them. <SIGH> Luckily they are wall hangings so definitely on the small side. Luckily I recorded all my temperatures and precipitation levels as the year was going along so I don't need to look them all up again. I can already see that everything is looking a LOT more square. I have been quilting too long to make these kinds of mistakes. Stupid, stupid, stupid. But you know what - a lesson well learned. I KNOW I will never make those mistakes again....and now my cute, cuddly, awesome dog gets a new quilt for her doggie bed. |
