Those look great Krista! Glad you were able to get the fabrics you needed.

Love your quilts, Krista! I also saw that free shipping at MSQC. I put some stuff in my basket, then deleted it all. Phew! That was close!

Been on vacation a whole week and really have done well. 3 shops visited- purchased 2 wool fatquarters for a bom I’m working on- I didn’t have a couple colors I need for flowers, problem solved. Second shop picked up a skein of white yarn I need for a crocheted basket I was asked to make.
3 rd shop grabbed (2) gift items for secret santa pkgs and 5 half yard pieces for the French Braid quilt I’ve been commissioned to make ( need a 12- color run, have 5 of the 12 so far) oh, I bought a book too { sometimes I think I need a book/ pattern moratorium more than a fabric one} :)
i have a couple new baby quilts to make and this book has great appliqué patterns for those - I tried to find panels to use but didn’t find what I needed.
today is our last day and we will be visiting the 8- mile Crafters loop in Gatlinburg, Tn. I know there is at least one quilt shop. Hopefully I will find a couple more items I need.

Belfry, this brings up something that perhaps we should consider as a group. Would it be appropriate for someone who hasn't used all their exemptions or doesn't plan to use them to perhaps donate them to someone else? For example, if Paperprincess only used her retreat exemption but not her travel exemption, perhaps she could donate the travel exemption to you should you find yourself in a predicament where you need an exemption while not traveling.

Shall I make the motion? And if so, is there a second???

Sincerely,
Rob

I second the motion! And I know this is all in jest. OTOH, although we are committed to not buying fabric capriciously, I think we also need to have fun. And yes, there are times I will buy a piece of fabric because it is too gorgeous or a bargain to pass up. Is that "breaking the rules"? Probably but buying a couple of pieces of fun fabric a year is so much better than buying every month like I used to.

ooooh! I saw a jelly roll of fabric at Tuesday Morning. Picked it up.....very pretty and left the store empty handed. Then, this morning I received an e-mail that they will be on sale. I think it was $19.99 or something that sounded really good! But, as long as I don't get in the car, I think I'll be okay! Plus, if I want to "go shopping", I can just go to my sewing room. There's plenty of fabric there that needs to be touched! HA! Another week almost done! Yipee!

Irishrose2 04-28-2018 10:16 AM

The fan quilt is finished - actually it was done over the weekend, but it needed a lot of trimming. I also worked on a Spicy Spiral runner last weekend and it's finished and in the mail.

Good for you, NoraB! Great idea to remember to shop our stashes when the urge to add fabric turns us to the quilt shops. I'm sorting (trying to, anyway) tubs and boxes of scraps and getting them ready to turn into quilt tops. I worked on this project all week and I am still neck deep into fabric piles. Yikes!! If I disappear, I hope somebody thinks about looking under the avalanche for my body! :) No new purchases for me for a whole year. I am taking the pledge very seriously.

I didn't post my pictures of last weekend's finish here. The fan quilt is for a new friend who did me a huge favor. Front all from stash. I purchased the binding and the backing, but I bought less so I could use more stash.

petthefabric 04-29-2018 04:16 PM

Just got back from retreat. Purchased fabric for finishing projects. The 5th project wasn't completely planned-I really didn't think I'd get that far. So purchased fabrics for it. Then at the gift drawing I won 4 fat quarters. I didn't purchase any "can't live without it" fabrics althought tempted many times.

Had a great time.

elly66 04-30-2018 05:42 AM

That's lovely irishrose2. I like the back as much as the front.
Petthefabric you were busy. Glad you had fun. Congrats on your restraint.

MadQuilter 04-30-2018 10:27 AM

Aloha, y'all. Both the trip and the birthday were fabulous. YES, I did go to the quilt stores, and YES I shopped. Got a rainbow from the Maui Quilt Shop (F4 bundle of yellow to orange, 1/2 yd bundles of red and pink, green, blue, and purple) I call it my Maui colors. I did find a beautiful batik kit for a pineapple applique top but it was too pricey for my taste. Guess what: DH bought it for me. He says it made my face light up and since it was my Birthday, he HAD to get it. LOVE THAT MAN!!!!! I also found a Jade thimble for my collection. So my shopping mojo was utterly fulfilled.

The bad news is that my Mom sent me $50 to use for something quilty AND I am going to a retreat this coming weekend. EEK. Will I be strong? It's not that I NEED anything.

oksewglad 04-30-2018 11:15 AM

What fun, Martina..and remember that cash is a gift!

elly66 04-30-2018 01:41 PM

Glad you had a great time Martina. And remember it's wise to listen to your mother! And the DH deserves an extra hug too!:)

Teen 04-30-2018 05:19 PM

Martina....so glad you had fun in Hawaii quilt shops. Your hubbie is a keeper. Such a lovely thing to do for you. Don't you just love it that they are so supportive? My DH sat in his truck while I shopped LQS...then he got curious and came in. He knows my love of polka dots and kept pointing out fabric. Lol... Spend mom's gift without guilt.

Petthefabric.... You got a lot done at your retreat. Glad you had a good time.

PaperPrincess 05-01-2018 10:21 AM

Martina, sounds like you had lots of fun. Happy birthday... and you really can't disappoint your mom!

ckcowl 05-03-2018 04:24 AM

I actually did great while on vacation! Visited 4 shops- spent a total of $74.00
everything I purchased were needed for current projects except (2) gift items for secret santa packages.
It was fun, I browsed looking for what I needed and enjoyed my little finds/ purchases.
in the meantime back home I managed to pull about 6 yards from my stash to finish 2 of the quilts I’m working on.

Im feeling pretty productive, motivated

oksewglad 05-03-2018 05:47 AM

I know there's some fabric at the LQS that would be perfect for a project I'm thinking of...oh do i dare finish the bolt on a sale fabric and get a better discount! Do I really need it? Oh decisions....

Blue Bell 05-03-2018 02:30 PM

Yes, OK, you need it, so buy it!!!!!!!! LOL

Teen 05-03-2018 03:30 PM

OKsewglad....strive for perfection....go, girl, and get that perfect fabric...

Good job, ckcowl!!! It's difficult, I know!!

Oh you are such enablers...Just sewed the binding onto a quilt I just finished on the LA. It was a scrappy which used 4 1/3 yds of 2" squares, 5 yards of backing, and 3 3/4 yds of binding, sashing and border. A total of 8 3/4 yds of my stash went into this. I'm at a negative 60 1/4 yards for the year...Do I decrease this total? I work tomorrow...will it be there? FYI this is the flimsy before I added a border and binding.

SillySusan 05-04-2018 03:06 AM

Oksewglad, Enabler? Not I?.. Don't fall off the wagon now! You are doing so well now. Keep it up! You can reduce your stash even more!!

And your quilt is beautiful! Amazing... and all from your stash!! Good going!

NoraB 05-04-2018 08:12 AM

oksewglad, that quilt is beautiful.....now I am going to start saving 2" squares! I'm doing good on Not purchasing fabric....but now I'm purchasing notions! Oh well......just a few...needed ones.........then that's it! (Mary Ellens Best Press-on sale, free shipping, Superior threads 2 cones ordered from a longarmer who gets bulk discount and free shipping, and a True Cut 2 rotary sharpener ordered via Amazon ($20 less than I could find anywhere) and.....free shipping......notice a pattern? I just have to stay out of stores! hahahahahah

petthefabric 05-04-2018 11:29 AM

for those who want to loose, how many pounds is this?

oksewglad 05-04-2018 03:14 PM

https://weddingdressblue.wordpress.c...-up-odd-quilt/

Thanks, NoraB...above is the tutorial for the quilt. My version is a 4x4 block setting with a 2 inch and 5 inch finished borders. I choose to use a dark sashing. Make some 9P's a 49P and a 3 x 7 patch. Lots of different squares in mine!

Blue Bell 05-04-2018 04:45 PM

Thanks for the tutorial. Love it with the dark sashing. On my to do list!

PaperPrincess 05-04-2018 05:34 PM

Thanks for the tutorial, OK. I've been using 2" squares as leaders/enders and have been looking for a pattern to use!

retiredteacher09 05-04-2018 05:56 PM

Awesome quilt, oksewglad! Thanks for the website. I forgot about this 2" quilt pattern.

oksewglad 05-04-2018 06:38 PM

The blocks are 16" so 4 of them with a 4" border make a 40 x 40 quilt...perfect for a baby quilt using only a 1 1/4 yd of backing fabric.

PaperPrincess 05-06-2018 04:44 AM

I had cleared my schedule to sew this weekend. Of course, we lost power Friday AM and it's not supposed to be restored until Tuesday. We are on generator, but don't want to use my expensive computerized machine as the power is not steady. I have 2 treadles. I should learn to use one of them!

elly66 05-06-2018 07:42 AM

Oksewglad love that layout. Great for a scrap quilt. Will bookmark for my scraps. While I have worked hard to get them more manageable they always multiply.

That's rough PaperPrincess. Hope you get another weekend soon.

I used 3 1/4 yards of fabric to make pillowcases and another probably half for potholders. Will make more for when the grown children come, they can take them home with them. I am also hoping to pull fabric from stash when I go to make a quilt for son and girlfriend. Wish me luck all the fabric I need will be there.

rryder 05-07-2018 02:31 AM

Beautiful scrappy Oksewglad!

i haven’t been keeping track of how much gets used up, but I can say I haven’t baought any fabric since early January when I ran out of the black I needed to finish my temperature quilt. Got the fabric, still haven’t finished the quilt- it’s been on hold while other things with deadlines get finished up. So far (ecxept for that one slip up) everything Ikve completed or have in process for this year is completely from stash!

Good going, Rob! Keep it up! :)

petthefabric 05-07-2018 12:27 PM

Surgery put a crimp in quilting. right hand is in a cast. swelling has gone down so i can move my fingers thumb is totally immoble.

yesterday, withdrawal hit. had to pet some fabric. even chose fabric & drew out pattern for stash fabric. it's sitting next to me yelling temptations. ready for another 3.5 yds to be used. :-(

guess i could talley up the total.

Teen 05-08-2018 02:24 PM

Awesome, Rob! You've really been committed to your projects this year..from organizing, UFO's and stash use.

Petthefabric....I didn't read (or I missed it) that you had surgery. I'm so sorry and hope you mend quickly. Being away from my machine since traveling is killing me so I totally get it!!

Fabulous news, my friends!! I found all the fabric for my BA quilt during my travels. This project is ready to start once I complete my SBS and the quirky applique wall hanging I started while traveling. Yea for me! Heading home tomorrow....my sewing machine is calling my name!

rryder 05-10-2018 02:52 AM

Petthefabric- sorry to hear about the surgery. Glad you were able to get some fabric play in. Hope you’re feeling better soon.

petthefabric 05-10-2018 09:48 AM

Thank you. Each day, I have more ability. Cast comes off in 1 wk. Sometimes it itches
