Nice finish Jaba. I am hoping to get another one or two done this month. Depends on the doctor visit tomorrow. If they let me stand on my foot a bit, may just get back to getting some quilting done. That is where 18 of mine are at. That would be so nice.

Rhonda Lee 01-08-2018 07:54 PM

I'm applauding all of you and your progress already. I'm knee deep in little squares wanting to be big squares. Oh what a task I have set myself up to accomplish. However, each bit of piecing I do gets me that much closer to the finish line. I'm close to having the first stages of 5 quilts completed. That being hour glasses and half sq triangles and 4 patches lined up to be blocks. I'm still in the middle of string blocks though and that one is a time consumer. I'm moving forward with it. Thanks for just letting me ramble. It helps. And my oldest ufo is 21 years. I am hand quilting that one. One stitch at a time right? I do enjoy it and love it. I'm a quilter after all!

oksewglad 01-08-2018 09:27 PM

Rhonda Lee, I understand...today I shared 4 flimsies at our guild meeting. One took me over 6 years to get from start to finish...this is the start...did not repeat any other the 1 1/2" squares used in the 9P
https://www.quiltingboard.com/pictur...-a-t42414.html

My finished top is very much like the EQ version in the post, but I choose a gold background fabric with dusty blue and green flowers. Really complemented the green in the setting triangles.

I used lots of random 2" squares in a BH Ric Rac Nine and another quilt from Adventures with Leaders and Enders. I've started another quilt based on 4P's from that book as well. The fourth quilt was started by some 5" Kansas Trouble squares I received from a friend and added more from my fabrics. I used stash fabric to finish off the blocks.

Soon you will have all those started projects done as flimsies and can start more:D

Rhonda Lee 01-09-2018 03:11 PM

Love those little 9 patches! Since there are no other quilters in my family nor my friends, they are continually scratching their heads and rolling their eyes as to "why do you do this"? Oh if they only knew the joy of a 'go to place' that produces quilts from pure creativity.

oksewglad 01-09-2018 03:38 PM

You are so right, Rhonda Lee! I do not draw well but playing with color and design in my quilts satisfies an artistic side. And thanks for your kind words.

Ok sew and Rhonda...You guys are really moving along. The projects you are choosing to finish are the toughest because of so many pieces. I applaud your fortitude. You go, girls!

I have finished the appliqué (turned under) pieces for my quilt top and machine appliqué,d them today using trapunto method. My first attempt at this and I really enjoyed it until it was time to clip the loft away from appliqué. Yikes! I was so nervous I would clip through quilt top but, alas, I was successful. Tomorrow, I will be adding borders and in the coming days sandwich and domestic machine quilt.. I'm planning on doing some stitch embellishing too. Here's some pics of one appliqué and the trapunto..

rryder 01-10-2018 05:14 AM

Good job on the trapunto!

Rob

Dedemac 01-10-2018 07:37 AM

Jaba, perfect for a little one, I can see a wee one playing with it.

Connie, great way to clear up those orphan blocks, I have a few and unsure what to do with them.

I am calling it an UFO because the 4 rows of smaller blocks were orphan blocks and they were mostly found in someone's donated stash. I did add a few to the mix.

Teen, Looking great! Trapunto is way down on my to do list. Just trying to learn regular applique right now.

Today is a free day for me, no work or other obligations! I was doing some free motion on the chemo quilt this morning, that I am making with the UFO from train ride #7 here on the board. Have to run to the store to get more thread just ran out :( so will do my running then back to sewing today. With luck will get all quilting done today and maybe the binding on and ready to hand stitch.

redstilettos 01-10-2018 10:11 AM

Okay folks, I had to laugh at myself. I was feeling a tad guilty over the number of UFO's I have gracing my sewing area...until I read through some of these posts. 41? 40? 20? Mercy!

I'll jump on the train, but I think I "only" have four. But I do have a boat-load of quilts planned for the year, so we shall see!

Teen 01-10-2018 11:17 AM

Welcome, Red! Like you, I have some quilts planned for the year....just gonna stay on task. I got sidelined with my current quilt, which is for ME ME ME, but back on track when this bad boy is done. Getting close... Goal is finished this weekend. Fingers crossed!

Sync 01-10-2018 11:18 AM

Teen, nice job on the trapunto.

Rhonda Lee 01-10-2018 11:55 AM

Oh my gosh those little flowers are adorable. You are a talented one with needle and thread!

I did manage to get all the quilting finished now to make the binding. Think I will go with the purple that is in the quilt, I think pink would make the quilt feel unfinished, options?

Rhonda Lee 01-10-2018 02:33 PM

Purple sounds wonderful for a very wonderful quilt. Nice job.

rryder 01-10-2018 03:11 PM

UFO finished!!!

Hey all,
This smallish UFO was finished today! It's only been sitting around for 2 or 3 years...since it only needed to have the border added, then quilting and bound, I'm at a loss as to why it was in the UFO pile LOL. It's 20.5" square.

Rob

Sync 01-10-2018 03:32 PM

Congrats on your finish, Rob. It looks so bright and cheerful.

QuilterMomma 01-10-2018 03:35 PM

Rob, maybe you thought you were going to make more? Looks nice. Good points. Another one bites the dust.

Go with the purple Dedemac.

Love the applique/trapunto flowers. Those are nicely done.

cherrybsixty 01-10-2018 05:00 PM

Hi, everyone, I got a new toy for my birthday this laptop, now all I have to do is teach myself to do all the things that I was doing on the HP.

Teen, I love your trapunto, keep the good work up
Dedemac, I would go with the purple also
Rob, loving that block, the colored and the design, will make a nice mug rug

Well everyone enjoy your sewing time, I'm going to play around with this new toy and when it's snowing and cold tomorrow I'll pull the FW back out. Had to put it away today cause the GGD was coming.

MadQuilter 01-10-2018 05:59 PM

Yes on the purple, Dedemac.

Rob, it wanted to be with its other UFO friends.

Love the applique + trapunto, Teen. Isn't it great to tackle a new skill?

Teen 01-10-2018 06:30 PM

Great job, Rob. I have a weakness for yellow & black....this appeals to me greatly. Love it.

Dedemac....definitely purple binding. Will make that quilt pop!

Cherryb....new computer? Yea!!! You'll be wizard in no time...

went to to the dentist today and didn't get a chance to sew. However, I did cut out my fabric for 4-patch border. Thought long and hard on border And after assessing remnants, I think I have enough for 4-patch. Also had enough to cut a stack of mini charms and a stack of 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 for future quilts. Feeling very accomplished.

Dedemac 01-10-2018 06:54 PM

Went with the purple, I have the binding made and pressed, will sew it tomorrow. Had wine with the pizza tonight and not playing with the rotary cutter, as I have to square up the quilt yet.

Rob, that is cute. Is it a wall hanging or a mug rug?

rryder 01-11-2018 01:35 AM

Thanks Dedemac, it’s a table topper.

Rhonda Lee 01-11-2018 04:14 AM

Nice finish Rob. Love it.

cherrybsixty 01-11-2018 10:42 AM

Thank you Teen, for that encouragement, I will if the weather cooperates with me. It's already caused one power outage earlier in the day. Teen you have proved to be quite productive or determined with what you have produced in a day along with a dentist's visit, very good.

Rob, what is the measurement on that topper??? I would love to copy it for my grand daughter's table.

I'm pulling out the FW, since the power is back up, have a great sew day everyone.

Cherry

sunrise450 01-11-2018 10:46 AM

I guess I am again behind. Finished a lap quilt for my daughter, don't know if I can count that as a ufo though because I started it this last weekend and finished it yesterday.
We went to Joann's this last Sunday and bought a book of pot holders for holidays. This also cause my daughter wanted pot holders for all the holidays.
I have at least two more days to work on my down stairs sewing room. Then ufo's here I come!
Teen your trapendo is looking fine.
Dedemac, The purple would work wonderful. Okay, I'm a day late and a dollar short. But that is what I thought when first saw it.
Rob, I love your finish! Those colors with the black make such a cheerful top.
Jaba, love your baby quilt.
oksewglad, I have also been working on 2 1/2" squares plus in cleaning I found 2" and 1 1/2" squares.

Well, pits! I finished two prayer quilts this past weekend and bound them on Monday and took them to the church yesterday. But I forgot to take a picture after they were bound. Will you take my word that I did indeed bind and completely finish them?

The second one was from an aborted Mystery Train ride -- #3 I think. I somehow switched one of the colours part way through so the original pattern wouldn't go together without a lot of ripping. So I made two table runners and this quilt out of the components already sewn together.

QuilterMomma 01-11-2018 02:30 PM

I think your word will work, at least with me. Love the quilts, your quilting is very nice. Good job. Now about that stash you have under your machine, do we need to talk? LOL

rryder 01-11-2018 03:42 PM

Hey Cherry, It measures 20 and 1/2 inches square.

Rob

rryder 01-11-2018 03:45 PM

I'm with QM, Belfry--your word is good. So's your quilting! Congratulations on both finishes!

Rob

kristakz 01-11-2018 04:04 PM

I would just like to say I have officially started on the monster UFO! Backing is made and loaded on the longarm, along with batting. Just need to iron the top and get started.

happylab 01-11-2018 05:43 PM

My progress towards an UFO finish is very slow. BHMQ quilt has really slowed me down. I have 2 more steps before I can put blocks together. I missed placed my binding fabric to finish the tree shirt. I’ll try to finish a small 40” kid quilt this weekend. It’s about 4 Years old. I’ll post pic when done.

letawellman 01-11-2018 05:45 PM

Teen, love the trapunto - it looks great!!

Dedemac, that pink and purple make me think of cotton candy and the old county fair... mmm, I can just smell the candy and popcorn!

Rob, that yellow and black just POP!! Love, love LOVE it!!!

Cherryb, I work in computers, and even at that, the new stuff frustrates me sometimes! Just take your time, you'll eventually get the hang of the new tech... of course, as fast as it changes, it might be "old tech" by the time any of us learn the "new" stuff. :D

No finished UFO for me, yet. I got side tracked by Jenny Doan's "Majestic Mountains" tutorial... and I'm up to my eyeballs in "baby mountains". I hope to get that Dresden plate loaded on the longarm soon, though.

Teen 01-11-2018 06:40 PM

Woo...this train is rockin...

Sunrise....you are doing great...it's only January..easily to get sidelined when some cute little project comes up. Good job on starting and finishing one so quickly.

Belfry...your word is golden. Congrats on the finishes and repurposing those blocks from the mystery. Lovely quilts!

happylab....that BHMQ was a monster project but finishes are turning out beautiful. Please share pics as you progress. Good luck!!

leta....I got sideways today when my mini bolt holders came. Lol!! I have been so excited for these cuz my stash is just in piles. I have to order more holders (yikes)... I underestimated just a tad..lol! However, I did finish the 4-patch border. Tomorrow, all the borders will be sewn on. Yippee!! Also, taking my patriotic panel quilt to the quilter tomorrow. It's been ready for a couple of weeks and we finally scheduled the drop-off.

D.Henson 01-11-2018 07:08 PM

Nice job on the finishes! It is such a great feeling.

oksewglad 01-11-2018 08:50 PM

Glad to see some finished projects...whoo hoo!

Teen, one of reasons why I haven't gone to the comic boards is I would go broke buying them cuz I'd need so many! Smart to do it in the beginning.

JJBlaine 01-12-2018 02:46 AM

I was positive I would have my Scrappy Double Irish Chain all pieced tonight. I was so proud of myself for chugging along on enough of the colored blocks for a 7x9 block quilt. Siily me...I have enough background blocks for a 9x11 block quilt!

Back to making four patches tomorrow! I WILL get this thing pieced before I move on to another UFO!

Rhonda Lee 01-12-2018 10:42 AM

I feel good about the progress I'm making on the "Square Dancers" quilt. I finished all sets of 4 patches and all sets of 1/2 square blocks. This will be enough to make the middle of one side of the quilt. Its a Jacobs Ladder Block that these little guys will go into and its nice to have enough made for 24 blocks for each quilt. I decided I could call this a ufo since I started cutting for it 3 years ago! And sew it goes...
