As for me, no new UFO's at the moment. I have been catching up on stitching down the binding for the donation quilts our church ties every Thursday. I can't make to to the tying but I can do the binding. I have also been spending more time with my mother who is 88. She was taken to the hospital last month, because my daughter noticed her lips were getting blue and she could not breath easy. Found out she has Chronic Heart Failure, at the moment it's pumping around 15 to 20%. She is home now and doing okay, she finally gave in to being put on O2, was fighting it for over a year. So I have been spending a lot of my time over at her house. Getting used to my new normal, but today was a sewing and clean my house day.
I have been enjoying the quiet. |
I'm sorry to hear about your mother's troubles, Dedemac, but glad she agreed to the oxygen and that you are able to spend time with her.
I let an organizing project come between me and the binding I was working on. I have now matched all of my fabric bundles with patterns and made a note of what fabric needs to be bought for each project (I really enjoy the planning aspect of quilting). I just have two more bunches of fabric to fold today and then I can get back to that binding. |
Dedemac- I'm sorry to hear about your mother's health problems. I hope the oxygen helps to keep her more comfortable.
Good to know that you are taking some time for yourself and able to do some sewing. Rob |

Watson, I love it!

Very striking, Watson. What's the size...looks like 36 x 44 or thereabouts? Or am I completely wrong!

Watson, that's one of the most beautiful quilts I've ever seen. The contrast between the black & your chosen colors is striking. What is the pattern name, please?
|
Conchalea, thanks for the kind words. That's an original design and I think I'll call it Technical Difficulties, because I had so many doing it!

Watson, that's so interesting, and very beautiful!

That’s fabulous, Watson!

Watson - love the motion in the quilt, and technical difficulties is a perfect name. I remember seeing it in stages and was wondering what it would look like finished.

I’m going to load up my next ufo to get it quilted as soon as the backing comes out of the dryer- it’s a ( rich Purple) and the top has a lot of white in it, so don’t want to take any chances.
i have been working on ( decluttering) my sewing room and have a ( multiple project) a large tote of denim I was supposed to make quilts for some family members after my aunt passed away. I stuffed totes and ignored. I either need to do this or pass on that denim I can’t deal with it being here any longer. So....since I over did things yesterday I’m going to set myself up a cutting station in the living room and spend a few hours ( as long as it takes) cutting it all into squares. I’m going to make ragged quilts. I have plenty of scrap batting, flannel- i consider that tote of deconstructed denim a huge ufo...it has to go. |
what a month for me!!! A year or so back, I closed 2 storage units of fabrics moving them to an empty rental house I own. I've used that house as a sewing cottage before and that was my intention this time also. BFF's son wanted to rent it, so I decided to have a fabric sale. That was May 16th and 17th. I really sold a lot of stuff. On May 20th, my significant other passed away. So been cleaning everything (my home, the storage units and the rental house) out to try to get organized. The rental house is ready for occupancy and I have a lot of UFO's that people were amazingly willing to buy!! Pretty much word of mouth and I had some 1/4 page flyers that I handed out. (I have worked at the LQS for around 10 years so many people knew I had some nice stuff). When I figure a total of UFO's that are out of my life, I will let you know. Now that I live alone, my entire house is my sewing room!!! :).

Watson, that is jaw-dropping gorgeous quilt!! I remember seeing it when it was it was in its infancy. Or toddlerhood. If you had a lot of difficulties with it, perhaps it was going through puberty . LOL
Absolutely love the play of light dancing in those watercolors. |
Watson, you have a marvelous sense of humor with the name of that gorgeous quilt! :D
|
LTeachergeorge, very sorry for your loss.

In May I added hanging sleeves and labels to 4 quilts that I was putting in our guild’s biannual quilt show. Does that count lol? Even though the quilts have been completed for some time, now that they are labels I feel like they are truly finished!
The labels were fun to make - I used the Avery website to design the labels, they have lots of fun fonts and graphics. |
OhCanada- If you feel that they were UFOs, then they are UFOs!

May UFO Completion!

Hey all,
Here's the UFO that I completed in May. It's 27" x 27" and the individual crumb/crazy blocks have been sitting around for about 6 years. I used both the decorative stitches on my sewing machine and also FMQ for the quilting. Thanks for looking, Rob |
as usual, Rob, beautifully done, great quilting
|
Looks great, Rob!
Watson |
LTeachergeorge, I'm sorry for your loss. It sounds as though you had a lot to keep you busy, and that can be the best thing at such a time. Congratulations on your successful selling.
Rob, I love the crazy crumbs! |
LTeachergeorge- I'm sorry for your loss.
Rob |
LTeachergeorge: I’m sorry for your loss. Congratulations, though, on your success selling your UFOS.
Rob: Great crazy Quilt wallhanging. |
LTeacher...wow a lot happening in a short amount of time. So sorry for your loss.
Rob, a 21st century crazy quilt! Well done. Not many UFO's happening, but 2 Grands are sewing right now. 10 yo making pillowcases (4 yards of stash fabric...gone!) and 13 yo picked out pretty pastels from stash for a Warm Wishes quilt...all looking good! |
Lteachergeorge Sorry for your loss
Rob once again "Great Work" OKsewglad I about grands helping delete the stash, I have two great-grands that requested to learn how to sew this summer. So, I purchased another FW to be able to sew with them. So we could get at it. We're trying our hand at Barbie clothing. I'm loving their eagerness. It getting me motivated, that non-sewing thing that I was going through was the pits. Happy Sewing Everyone!!! Cherryb |
Nothing like passing on our passion to the next generation, cherrybsixty.
|
LTeachergeorge - sorry for your loss, in time you will find your new normal. Try to enjoy the new larger sewing room.
Rob - Another awesome project. I love crumb work. Cherrybsixty - It's good you are sewing again and getting the next generation interested is outstanding. Oksewglad - Just think soon you can gift the some of your stash to the grands. Then you will have a reason to get more fabric :D? Nothing new for me, but my sewing room is nice and clean. Thanks to having to watch my niece last weekend and the boys this weekend. |
Thank you, Oksewglad and Dedemac for agreeing with me. It will be a dying artform if we don't pass it on. Out of my three bio-daughters only one sews or uses the machine. And she's what is referred to as a sewist because her profession is a medical doctor. Back in the day we were referred to as seamstress. Now it's either that or a quilter. But, the oldest g-grand wants to design and the second g-grand just want to learn how to use the machine. She is the one I am going to encourage to help me to quilt or piece. Her sister I'll continue assisting her with designing. I just so happy that I get the honor of being with them and being a part of their growth process. I never got to meet my grandmothers and here I am a great-grand mother. Well I got go and dig in that stash to see what I am going to take to them to sew-up have a great weekend everyone.

My daughter learned to sew, but her daughter never saw her do it and she thought Gma had to teach her how. DD surprised the GD and she helped her make a tote for her piano books. GD going to spend some time with Gma this summer and is sending me project ideas. Planting the seed is all we need to do. Later in life they will say..."I can do that!", because some one taught them #2 DIL had a sewing mother, but I've taught her more than mom has. Now she sews Halloween costumes every year for their 3 munchkins. She may be a quilter some day, but she knows how to sew now. Yes we need to pass on the tradition!

Wow Watson, what a quilt!
Sorry for the loss. It's always hard to take, Linda. Here is a finished UFO. I made it to use as a decorative throw on top of the day bed in the correct season,. |
Love that pattern...I think you shared the pattern before and it's on my bucket list. Thanks for sharing your lovely finish!

I love your quilt, Battle Axe! It's on my bucket list too...
I've not been quilting this week. I have been sewing baby summer outfits for my two little granddaughters. Also knitted one a cute little shrug. I'm having fun dressing the babies. Here are some completely off-topic pics... me enjoying baby time with #2. |
Oksewglad, I most hardly agree with sharing the tradition
Battle Axe, a lovely finish Sewbizgirl, enjoy your little one you will always find time to quilt, the little one looks to be a sweet heart Cherryb |
