LOL, Pet.... good job on that UFO.

I have some progress... Had a UFO of Winding Ways blocks that I might have mentioned before. I've been plugging away on the little blocks, bit by bit. Well, I have completed all 25 and I'm putting them together, so *progress!* is happening. Soon to be an FO. I think I'm going to sell my templates after this... too fiddly a block to use again!

Here's the Winding Ways progress. Finally got all these pieces put together. Now just to add borders.

Wow, sewbiz! I love those strong blues.

QuiltnNan 04-20-2019 08:28 AM

beautifully done

oksewglad 04-20-2019 10:44 AM

Very nice SBG...you persevered! Blues and purples are lovely. This process not my "cup of tea", so even more so impressed with it!

I'm sorting some orphan blocks and trimming them. As I do this I'm thinking how to put them together in a quilt..most are country browns, greens and blues but don't want to go too dark with settings. Actually thinking of a Jen Kingwell style of setting. Any other ideas...blocks vary in size from 2 1/2 to 8 inch finished?

That looks great Sewbiz!

Just got home from a day at the barn- beautiful day and happy horses. May get a little sewing in this evening after I take a rest. I pulled out two UFOs last night. One was an experiment gone wrong and the other consisted of partially pieced strips. I cut the experiment gone wrong into strips and alternated the strips from the two. We’ll see if that works any better than either of them alone.

Gorgeous, sewbiz! Love the colors..

Yay! Finished a UFO!
A tumbler quilt I cut out ages ago and finally got around to putting together and quilting.

Have to dig into the pile and see what's next.

Finished this one last week, it had been sitting in a bin, all sandwiched with batting and backing, and even the binding had been made. Since around 2006 I think. Our guild is having a show next month, so that was the impetus I needed to finish it. Pattern is from a booklet called “Lessons from Mama”. I am calling my version - Springtime in Paris.

Also pretty, all the beautiful fabric choice and and wonderful border pattern.

Wonderful job :)

Love those colors- Nice finish, Watson! Congratulations on getting this one done. Was the binding hard to do?

I did a tumbler once, but I did a rattail edging which is easier to get around all those angles, but isn't as anywhere near as durable as a double fold binding, so mine is really only useable as a wall hanging. I've often thought about taking off trying to bind it but have to admit to being intimidated by anything other than a straight edge and 4 corners when it comes to binding.

oksewglad 04-21-2019 12:29 PM

Like the pieced Tumbler blocks... Watson.

QuiltnNan 04-21-2019 12:45 PM

great tumbler quilt!

Watson 04-21-2019 12:48 PM

Rob, the binding wasn't hard. I used bias and just did it like a regular quilt except they were only half corners to fold them and when you got to the inside corners, I just pivoted.

joe'smom 04-21-2019 04:50 PM

Watson, that's so pretty! Congratulations on the finish!

Beautiful tumbler quilt Watson, was that a stash buster quilt - I noticed some tumblers were pieced!

I’ve had lots of time to do handwork while listening to audiobooks, listened to Pretty Baby and Baby Teeth while I finished this QOV which is a retirement gift for a dear friend who is retiring with 35 years of service with the military. Hope he likes it. Pattern is from a Debbie Mum book, I changed the setting triangles to have maple leaves in Perle 8 thread, big stitched instead of appliquéd apples as shown in the original pattern. It was a great quilt to use up smaller scrap strips.

I think my UFO count is down to 6!!! Excited because it hasn’t been this low since I don’t know when.

oksewglad 04-22-2019 09:57 AM

OhCanada, the Maple Leaf is just perfect for your QOV...adds a special touch to the quilt...yes he will love it!

rryder 04-22-2019 10:22 AM

That’s a beautiful quilt OhCanada!

Watson-thanks for the info. You make it sound way easier than it looked to me when I was doing mine :)

This morning I got a little more done on a couple of UFOs that I’ve mashed together into a single piece. Then went to the dentist for deep pocket cleaning and root planing on upper and lower left molars. Had hoped to do some more on the UFOs this afternoon, but I think I need to lay down for a while...

Rob

sewbizgirl 04-22-2019 10:32 AM

Beautiful Rail Fence, OhCanada.

Rob, what in the world is root planing? Sounds like something I don't want to have done.

Hey Sewbiz, root planing is when they plane the rough spots and tartar/plaque off your roots. Apparently some pockets where food gets trapped and creates gum inflammation are made worse by those rough areas. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, they used some topical numbing agents and once those had taken effect they added in some numbing injections. Right now my mouth feels sort of like the way you feel after getting a root canal or having a tooth pulled.

Finally can post my first UFO of the year! Sorry — having trouble uploading image. Will try again later

So what is the line of seperation between a UFO and a long WIP? One year? Six months? What do the rest of you think?

joe'smom 04-30-2019 09:11 AM

I tend to think of my finished tops as UFOs, and my kitted projects as WIPs. If I complete a top and then move on to piecing something else, it becomes a UFO. A project is 'current' if it stays out in the sewing room, regardless of how long it stays around, but if I put it away, it becomes a UFO.

Hmmm good question sewbizgirl. I guess for me something becomes a UFO when I put it aside and start working on something else. But as long as I’m making some progress on it, it’s a WIP. And I like to have several WIP going at once. So piecing one quilt, quilting another, binding another, etc.

oksewglad 04-30-2019 03:50 PM

QuilterMomma, they just keep showing up on my screen...oh my how long did it take to get these all done? I love the yellow bowties!

WMUTeach 04-30-2019 04:42 PM

I have a big old goose egg to report for the month of April. Not a good month for me. Fell into a motivational valley and only did three starts. at my guild retreat and haven't stitched much at all, no finishes. This too shall pass and I will return to the joy of quilting.

rryder 04-30-2019 06:14 PM

Wow QM! That’s a lot of finishes- good job!

Wow QM... did you do all of those? You are a one-woman quilt show, if you did!

I guess I will consider this one a finished UFO, because I've had the panel cut into strips and sitting for a very long time. You can't tell but the features of the buildings are individually quilted.

rryder 05-01-2019 01:14 AM

Neat finish, Sewbiz.

joe'smom 05-01-2019 04:53 AM

What an interesting panel, sewbiz!

QuilterMomma, by the time I got to your 5th post, I began to wonder if you might be sharing some photos from a quilt show.

Watson 05-01-2019 05:02 AM

QuilterMomma...lovely quilts! Do you remember the name of the pattern for the second last one? Diagonal lines with flowers around the outside? I really like that one.
