What a sweet quilt for a baby. Your quilted circles are lovely, Watson!

March UFO finished!

1 Attachment(s)
Hey all,
here is my March UFO finish. It started out 7 or 8 years ago as a spiderweb block quilt- back when MSQC first started offering their template and papers. Over the years it got put together and taken apart. Finally I put the blocks together and treated them as 4 patch units and turned it into a D4P. So now it's a fractured spiderweb. Anyway. Got the binding on it on Sat. and it's been being blocked since then. Still needs a little more blocking to straighten the bottom, but I consider it done! Yay!

That is spectacular, Rob!! The piecing and quilting looks amazing...Congratulations on your long ago UFO finish...

oksewglad 04-01-2019 02:40 PM

Rob I've looked at this several times now and it reminds me of a reflection in a cracked or sectioned mirror...or even a fractured Picasso like painting. Great job!

Conchalea 04-02-2019 02:52 AM

Rob, fascinating result as always! Your quilt reminds me of the kaleidoscopes I've loved since I was a kid. It's fantastic, with the quilting echoing the block shapes.

Dedemac 04-02-2019 12:09 PM

Rob that is so awesome! How did you quilt it with all the seam intersections? Just the negative areas?

sewbizgirl 04-02-2019 12:30 PM

It’s gorgeous, Rob! Lovely quilting, too.

joe'smom 04-02-2019 01:41 PM

That's really fascinating, Rob. Congratulations on finishing!

rryder 04-02-2019 02:07 PM

Thanks Everyone.

Dedemac- To quilt it I raised the height of my hopping foot on the Sweet16 so it would clear the intersections. It's fairly easy to do, you just have to be careful to not raise it too much or there will be problems with stitch formation.
Every seam in the entire quilt is ditch quilted. Then I did more dense quilting in the white areas. It has a double batting, hobbs 60/40 cotton poly underneath and Hobbs Tuscany Wool on top, so the areas that are less densely quilted will puff up.

Rob, that's a really cool quilt. I agree it looks like a Picasso painting reflected in a cracked mirror.

retiredteacher09 04-02-2019 05:56 PM

Rob: Congratulations on your finish! It's lovely.

Teen 04-03-2019 02:33 PM

I posted a picture of my completed vintage looking quilt on the picture thread, Tho, not a UFO since I don't have any of those, I stayed true to my goal of finishing what I start so that is a win for me...woohoo!,

Teen, that is a delightful quilt!

sewbizgirl 04-04-2019 06:12 PM

Teen, that’s UFO prevention... I love your quilt!

retiredteacher09 04-04-2019 06:16 PM

Teen: Thanks for sharing your lovely quilt.

Teen 04-05-2019 12:16 AM

Thanks so much!! I'm off and running thinking about my next project. I have some Ombré fabrics (1/2 yd each of 10 colors) so I am designing another quilt... So far, it looks cool on EQ8 so let's hope I can pull this off.

This one has been sitting around for a couple of years. I think it was a New Years' Day mystery quilt. Can't quite remember. Anyhow, quilted it with a bunch of stuff, feathers, pebbles, spirals and easy ruler work just to get it done. May put another line of ruler work in the white triangles.

rryder 04-05-2019 05:07 PM

Cool quilt and quilting, Watson! Congratulations on getting it finished.

Teen 04-05-2019 05:08 PM

Watson...this turned out really neat. Love your quilting!

retiredteacher09 04-05-2019 07:21 PM

Watson: Congratulations on the finish. Great quilting!

One of my machines is in for service and I was planning on quilting my 2 UFO’s and 1 non-UFO on that machine. It has a bigger harp and a quilting hoop was given to me for it. I guess they can wait a while longer to get finished.

I have pulled out (8) ufo quilt tops I need to finish. I know I have 3 bags with real ( ufos) Quilts that still have work to go to become tops- I sent away a lot of orphans I was sure I would never finish, which was nice to have gone, but I keep finding more. :(
i found some new motivation- I truly want to invest in new sewing room furniture and get my studio finished ( the new lights have been in boxes, laying on the floor for almost 5 years. The room is so overwhelming with clutter I need to finish things up so I can get out of the way. I’ve tried to be realistic with what I passed on and kept. I’m sure I will pass on more as I go along. I think I will try to snap a few pictures of the ufos stacked up and get busy. I’m getting better at time management, it was a pretty tough winter. But I’m making progress and staying motivated.

Teen 04-07-2019 07:52 AM

Thank you, Bug Lady!!

ckcowl...new studio furniture would be exciting...good luck on your goal and congrats on the new babies coming your way.

I have not started a new project yet. Just been piddling around making pincushions using up some scraps. These are fun to make.

tohorse1 04-08-2019 04:40 PM

Wow, wish I had only 13

tohorse1 04-08-2019 04:47 PM

I like it if that counts, love the swirls

rryder 04-09-2019 01:37 PM

Thanks, Bug Lady!

My studio to do list says I've got a couple of things that have fast approaching due dates, but I am jonesing to start a new project, something, anything- even if it just means pulling fabric out willy-nilly and stitching it together..... I think that tells me I've got a serious case of the "I don't wanna's"

Ok, back to working on the loopy faced binding for a collaborative quilt I've got to get finished by next month. At least it counts as a UFO.

Rob

ckcowl 04-10-2019 05:36 AM

I managed to get (2) of my ufo tops quilted— now need to do the bindings and load up another one. Getting them quilted is definitely a boost to my motivation. I will try to get some pictures this weekend- I don’t think we have a bunch of plans.

UFO After All

I did have a UFO-a lot of blocks my daughter gave me after she lost her joy in quilting. Modified log cabin blocks, many with sashing already sewn on. The trouble was, her machine was giving her lots of tension issues & ALL the seams were very poor. I took out every seam which wasn't a chore since one side of them was so loose. I redid all the seams & put on sashing. All such pieces were cut so I only had to sew things together. I've put it all together, quilted it, & finished the binding on Tuesday. A friend in the hospital will get it on Friday when I go see her. So-a completed UFO for April!

I have a new phone which isn't showing the option to upload a photo, so I'll have to do that from my computer I guess.

Teen 04-11-2019 07:48 AM

Congrats, ladies, on your finishes...

This is is the longest (1 week) I have gone that I have not started a big project. It feels weird. Lol...I have just been playing with small projects. Made a bunch of pincushions from scraps to use up a bag of crushed walnuts, cut scraps into the sizes I inventory, made some more 2" 9p, last night I EPP 65 hexi's. First time I EPP...didn't realize it would go so fast. Lol.. I ran out of paper hexi's so running to store to buy more. Have no idea what I'll do with them yet just thought I'd make some and be inspired....and to quit feeling lazy..lol..

sewbizgirl 04-11-2019 08:22 AM

Good job on that UFO of your daughter's Conchalea! Sounds like a lot of work but I'm sure your friend in the hospital will be blessed by your effort.

Conchalea 04-11-2019 09:33 AM

Thank you SBG. I sure wish I still had my iPhone. Frustrating issues with the "find my phone app" made it necessary to get a Samsung Galaxy. I dislike this platform & now the QB doesnt give an option to upload photos from this phone.
