Yea, Krista!!! I think you were our number 1 producer last year. And, your projects were no easy feat, if I recall. Amazing results and dedication. Great goal for this year. I have no doubt you will meet it.
edwardsfm.....welcome and congrats on the finish. And congrats on the new grandbaby... So exciting.. Sewbiz.....did your grandbabies arrive yet? I recall reading somewhere that you were expecting 2 this year... I am slowly making progress on my WIP. My machine is packed so I focused on the applique pieces, which are done, and now I'm cutting fabric for all the pieced blocks. I have my travel machine available and easy access if I Get the time and inclination. It's been really hard to not sew like I love doing... I have a feeling I will make up for lost time when I settle. Just 2 more weeks then...varoom...We are off to Idaho! |
This is an exciting time for you, Teen... Idaho is a beautiful state.
Still waiting for the grandbabies to come. One is due Feb 20 and the other, April 10. Both are girls so I've been making little dresses and bubble suits for this summer. Also cloth diapers and covers, swaddle blankets out of double gauze, and burp pads. And now I'm looking at knitted toy patterns! This grandmothering is seriously hindering my quilting, tho I finished a donation quilt today too. |
sewbizgirl, that was me last year ............ lol ... I finished 1 UFO and the rest of the year was spent making his baby quilt, burp pads, bibs, and some receiving blankets. Yes, grandmothering can seriously hinder your quilting .... ;)

LOL WMUTeach... I still make flannel pj pants for my grown kids and their spouses, about every other Christmas. I agree, it never stops.
|
Hi everyone, I am making this my main goal this year. I have a stack of quilt tops that need quilted, along with several in various stages. My first retreat is coming up at the beginning of March, I will be taking nothing but started quilts in hopes of finishing some.
|
Great to hear about all of the progress and chatter. Do we have anyone who has completed a UFO’s and want it to count in our totals? I have not received any PM so I can start our finished ufo list. But, if you prefer not to have it count, that’s okay too. Just re,ember to pm me when you finish a ufo project. We still have 1/2 the month to get a project done or two.
I have a small wall hanging ufo ready to be sandwiched and fmq. Next week after our VQW, (virtual quilt weekend). The VQW should start today or tomorrow, look under the 1st section in this blog. Happy sewing everyone. |
I rewrote my list to clean off a few craft items that I din't feel were too important and found that they are ufo projects that involve sewing and fabric/cloth so they should actually stay on the list. So here it is.
Chris Koi Quilt needs Koi and water plants. Border, backing, binding. Civil War Quilt- needs Quilting. I think I already binding have to check. Crayon Color Quilt- needs binding and quilting. I hate it I want to donate it. Valentine Pot holders- to do gift and for selling at the farmers market. Garner Family Quilt- needs backing batting binding and quilting. 9 patch quilt need to look and evaluate. B & W quilting panels and blue jean panels. It used to be a giant (HEAVY) quilt but I took it apart. Not sure what I want to do with it. I'm not adding more right now. There are the ones I want to accomplish the Most. Good luck everyone. |
I am joining this UFO challenge. Thank you happylab, for starting this thread.
I have over 40 projects that I have started & are in different stages of needing finishing. These are my WIP's aka UFO's. Unfortunately, none of them are the final binding. Wish they were. My commitment to myself is to finish 10 of them before I start any new projects, unless it is a special occasion quilt, ie, birthday, wedding or baby, that has to get done and none of my UFO's will be perfect for the occasion. Now, my method will be to finish the first one I find. If I start looking through them to find the easiest, I may never get started, plus some have disappeared for this moment. I couldn't find them last year, but I know they are in the sewing room. So I will just sew my way through them one at a time. Stay tuned for pictures. Edited to add: I have over 50 kits, which have the pattern and all the material pulled for them, so as far as I am concerned, I actually have almost 90 UFO's. Sad that anyone could be this disorganized. My daughter thinks I may be ADHD. Thinking it could be true. I am a good starter, but a poor finisher. |

Both of these look more drab and dreary than the colors really are. It was dark when I took the photos and there really wasn't enough light. |

sewbiz..those turned out wonderful. I donated my orphan blocks last year to a church group because I was sick of looking at them. Lol! Gave them extra fabrics, too, so they could create something. I typically do the same as you but I was so sick of brown. Lol... Congrats on the finishes and....the granddaughters..

I'm hand quilting one right now that sat for about three months. Also, I gave away twenty finished blocks, and mailed one to my sister to finish. (I asked her first). She is happy to have it since her favorite color is purple.
|
oh....that is so exciting, Sewbiz..... This munchkin is almost here. Yah!
|
I am so happy that giving them away counts as being done. There are also a couple that have been abandoned over the years.....
|
Those are so pretty, Boston.
Giving away counts as 'done'? Hmmm... I see a shortcut coming. That is, if I can snooker someone into taking them. :D |
Today, I needed a new project, so I pulled a UFO off the shelf. There's getting to be a few empty holes up there. So I finished 2 blocks and decided it's going to dye because I'm getting bored already. So change of plans & back at it. At least making progress toward finishing this UFO.
At the retreat in April, I'll take packages containing finished top, backing, binding. Just need to cut batting for each. Should be able to get 4-5 finished. Need to finish a panel quilt this next week. About 1/2 the quilting and binding is all that's left. |
Great finishes Sewbiz! And yes, however you get them off the UFO heap counts- so you can give them away, trash them, or finish them- as long as they’re gone from the pile never to return LOL!

Ok, I have another one this week then... In another thread I spoke of a UFO quilt I threw out, after keeping it for at least 25 years. I didn't like it but for some reason just couldn't throw it out. I had been using it (folded up) as a cat bed and discovered the cat had 'moved on' to another favorite sleeping spot and had used the old UFO as a second potty! It was easy to throw it out then. So... another one gone.

That is my plan for my guild retreat the first week of April. Only take UFOs and finish some! This usually works well for me. I do it all but the hand stitching of my binding and that I take home with me to do during movie nights. Great minds are working together! I wish you well as you press forward with chasing down the UFO's!
Congrats on the finishes Sewbizgirl! Love the first one's colors. Boston, that purple & green is pretty! |

Ha ha... I do love that kitty but she's kinda senile now. Make that crazy.... When she's gone there won't be any more cats for us. Only dogs, the perfect animal.

Gosh, everyone has been so industrious. I finished 7 UFOs this week, but only took pics of the ones I had pieced myself. 3 were quilts for the homeless group I belong to and I only quilted and bound them. The four pictured here I pieced in Nov/Dec and finally got around to quilting and binding.

Well done, Belfreybat....these all are wonderful....I'm kinda of partial to the last one. Such warm colors... Do you hand sew your binding on the back? I ask because that is a lot of work for one week. For donation quilts, I typically machine sew my binding but for gifts and special quilts, I hand sew. Just wondering....
|
@BelfyBat: Those are fabulous quilts. Even though they are simple patterns, the fabrics and colors you used really make them pop!
|
Cute quilts, Belfry. That's a lot of finishes!
|
Good job on those finishes, Belfrybat.
|
Thank you. I have a definite aversion to hand sewing anything. These are actually done with back to front binding method where I cut the back 3/4" larger than the front and fold to the front and sew. For quilts I make for friends or to sell, I still machine sew the binding but use the more traditional strip method where I sew onto the back and fold over to the front.
|
Very nice finishes, Belfrybat!
|
Morning everyone, nice finish belfrybat!
I am pretty proud of myself. I managed to get a baby quilt put together this weekend for a shower on Sunday. I cleaned my sewing room & re-organized everything. I now have an actual count of UFO's  that I will post at the end so I can find it. I have a group I meet with on Monday's so I have a binding one to take tonight. UFO's 10 table runners (tops complete) 5 baby quilts (tops complete) 9 lap size or larger quilts (tops complete) 5 started quilts (block only) I have a lot to get done...... |
Hi. This looks like a great place to find motivation to complete those UFOs! Thanks. I'll tackle a list soon, but I have two front-runners for completion: easier of the two is a table runner and the greater challenge is a king-size quilt I started last March with fabrics I brought back from a trip to Hawaii. Of course there are lots more and my list of UFOs is equally unfinished. :)
|
I like the idea of digging through the accumlation of quilt related stuff until I find a UFO that needs to be finished. That way I won't get overload from all the work that's really there. Partial reality if fine with me.
|
Progress is being made on my UFO front. Rather than force myself to sort thru the UFO bin all at once, I made the goal to have it done by the end of the month. I've been pulling out 2-3 projects at a time and deciding their fate.
Last week I pulled out the projects I want to work on first, put them in see-thru project boxes, and brought them into the sewing room. Of those, one is basted and ready to fmq, another is my current piecing project. This week, one is being sent out to be worked on, 6 are being sent off to be used for donation quilts, and 2 or 3 are damaged and will be going to the trash. Only one more bin to go! |
JJBlaine -- you have been busy! If I don't put my projects in see-through bags or boxes they are lost forever in the quilting closet. Or at least for years. I decided I had one mystery quilt I don't like enough to finish, so just bordered what was done and declared it a wheelchair quilt. It isn't quilted and bound, so I don't count it as done, but at least the decision has been made and I can move on without guilt.
|
I have several that I need a boost in the keister in order to finish.
Ugh! |
Here Red... boost, boost! (Virtual kicks in the keister). :D
|
Since this part of west central Illinois is covered in a thin sheet of ice I"ve declared today to be "stay in your jammies and quilt day". I have grabbed 2 UFOs out of the stack that both only need the last row of blocks and the borders stitched on. Both will go to a local ALS quilt challenge quilter then come back to me for binding and a label. The next project in the stack - also a donation quilt - needs a border. I haven't had a finish for months. Maybe today is the day.
|
I'm in line behind, Sewbiz, Red! Pick one and go for it.
