Some time around Halloween.

lawsonmugs 10-18-2017 08:22 AM

Marcia, very pretty. I love the purple tips of the leaf.

Pretty thistle buds too! Great fussy cutting of the star points.

Has Bonnie Hunter posted her intro to the MQ yet... the one with colors, etc? Said I wasn't going to do it this time around, but I might have to make a quarter sized lap quilt, at least. Just to play along...

I'm thinking a quarter size lap quilt too!

kristijoy 10-18-2017 09:28 AM

I got my first block pattern! Gorgeous! Now to noodle around in my stash to find some fun fabrics!

lawsonmugs 10-18-2017 09:42 AM

Can either of you put up a link for it?

She hasn't that I've seen. She's getting ready to leave on her trip to China so I'm sure it won't be until the end of October or the beginning of November.

Battle Axe 10-19-2017 04:27 AM

I am most concerned as an entomologist for Bonnie Hunter. She had a tick bite and the tick was a deer tick. She got it in New York where there is a lot of Lyme Disease. I just don't want her over in China when and IF she comes down with full blown Lyme disease.

Hopefully not... I live in the middle of the woods in Mississippi and have pulled more ticks off me than I care to count. No Lyme disease. I don't think it's all that common.

Battle Axe 10-20-2017 03:59 AM

It is in New York state. It started around Lyme, Connecitucut. (CT) can't spell.

Did you see the Missouri Star Quilt Co. dresden plate tute this a.m??

happylab 10-20-2017 03:10 PM

I’m in as well this time. I have my batik fabric washed, ironed, and 1st 4 blocks cut. I’m keeping with the same colors, just in betiks. I went to a retreat earlier this week, but never got to the blocks. My sewing machine I took was acting flakey. The bottom thread was too loose, it took a while for me to get it right. I had to mess with both tensions. The machine sewed very well on a thick quillow quilt and top. I have a few more hours to complete that project. If my iPad sends pic I wil post pics when they are completed.

The blocks shown how’s so far are very, very pretty. I hope my is just as nice. Have a great weekend everyone.

Belfrybat 10-21-2017 03:19 PM

I've gotten way behind on this and probably won't catch up. But at least I'll have the directions for the future. If only there was more time to do the important things in life like quilting!

lawsonmugs 10-21-2017 03:55 PM

So True Belfrybat lol

Lyme disease would be a blessing compared to being bitten by the Lone Star Tick. Two husbands out of the 5 ladies in my quilt club have been bitten and now have Alpha-Gal (allergic to red meat / mammals for the rest of their lives). Its a new and growing disease east of the Mississippi. The ladies are struggling to re-learn how to read labels and what to cook.....So please be on the look out.

I've heard of this on the news, but now I can say I know someone who has DH's with the disease! Thankfully there are some other things to eat, but I can totally appreciate that would take some effort!

I made my first block! I wanted to experiment with this floral fabric I've had for a couple years. It's so busy I decided to pair it with solids. It's still growing on me. I wish I had used lighter solids for the center so the star was more prominent. But I think I'll go with it. I can mix up light and dark ones since I have both colors in my stash. I might even make some alternates with the dark background in the center and the light background around the outside! That would be fun.

And...since I'm a bit on the 'DIY' side...I upsized the block to 16 inches so I could see more of the large scale print! :)

The star points are part of a fresh lilacs border that I ordered too much of. Have tons left.

Now # 6 is a huge mistake.I sewed the leaf on the wrong side and did not notice it until I took the picture. Looks terribly lopsided.

joe'smom 10-24-2017 07:42 AM

kristijoy, I love that block!

Annaquilts 10-24-2017 07:23 PM

Any plans to do Stars Over Baltimore http://www.piecingthepastquilts.com/ come January 2018? Is anyone buying the kit and or templates? I would like to get the templates but the cost is prohibitive.

joe'smom 10-25-2017 06:48 AM

It's a very pretty quilt. I've signed up to receive the downloads, but for future use. I agree, those templates are very pricey.

lawsonmugs 10-25-2017 08:45 AM

I've signed up also. I like the applique work. I also will be working without buying the templates. Looks like they would make it easier, but I'll try making my own templates. Hope someone starts a thread with the new quilt.

I might just get them later on as they look very versatile but I will not be using that method. My guess is because they are special heat resistant they are more pricey. I might try and make my own.

kristijoy 10-26-2017 08:37 PM

Thanks!!!! It's so much fun to see and share with you all!

Would they be worth it? Sure, I should have read the other comments on the subject. If doing turned applique, they may be worth it or make our own. I was thinking of doing raw edge (Steam a Seam) applique. I have little patience for lots of tiny hand stitches.

i signed up, undecided if I want to do appliqué. I’ll check to see if I have any fabric to substitute. I have a few months to decide.

FYI, Bonnie Hunter has posted her next mystery colors. It’s called “On Ringo Lake.”

Well I thought I posted a picture of this weeks block that I made yesterday. But I don't see it on here. Hope I didn't post it on the wrong thread. lol. Thanks for looking. I would like to see some of yours too.

Thanks sewbizgirl for letting us know about this BOW. I signed up last week and was able to catch up with all 7 blocks. Now to work on my alternate blocks. My picture doesn't show the colors too great, but will share individual blocks from now on.

lawsonmugs 10-31-2017 04:52 PM

Annie those are beautiful. You are so fast. Pretty fabrics.

joe'smom 11-02-2017 05:44 AM

Wow, Annie! Those are looking beautiful!

pokeyscorner 11-02-2017 10:37 AM

I just joined the BOW, now everyone knows where I get my username from.:o All of your blocks looked so beautiful it inspired me to try it. It was $5.94 because of being so late but definitely worth the price. Now I need to go pick out my fabrics. I'm also going to try to do Bonnie Hunters "Ringo Lake" mystery quilt for 2017. ;)

lawsonmugs 11-02-2017 11:30 AM

Glad you joined us Pokey. Annie caught up in just a week. So if you can make a couple a week I know you will catch up quickly.

Thanks, i'm sure going to give it a try.

lawsonmugs 11-03-2017 06:44 AM

Be sure to post pictures if possible. We all love seeing them.

Jaiade 11-05-2017 05:27 PM

I have all blocks done(I thought) even the stars waiting for the blocks that go inside, until I looked at the pic of the quilt and saw there is a second half alternate block that I haven't cut. I don't know if it has been addressed yet. I would post pics but I find it a hassle to get them right for posting. Mary, you and Battleaxe seem to do it so effortlessly. I will say that I saw a finished quilt on here recently that I might follow for the quilting design. I think it was by Bobbielinks and was done in 2015 and was brought back up recently.

Goofed it up. Cut off the seam allowance. Had to put in a patch.

lawsonmugs 11-07-2017 04:28 PM

Marcia, t still looks beautiful wit the extra. I know it was kinda tricky for me to make.

joe'smom 11-08-2017 06:30 AM

Battle Axe, you're getting lots of mileage from your lilac fabrics. Beautiful!

givio 11-09-2017 07:51 AM

BA, I love that patch! It's a great block! :-) :-)

Battle Axe 11-09-2017 10:42 AM

Next time I will post a pic of the huge tub of left overs I have from Fresh Lilacs. I saw a table runner on Maywood's web page made from Fresh Lilacs fabric which I will make and try to use up what I have. The hardest part is coming up with something for that curvy border. It said the pattern was free, but I can't seem to find the free button. It wants me to buy the whole kit. I sure don't need any more.

Thanks for all your complimentary comments. Being somewhat home bound, (they haven't taken the car away from me yet) I appreciate the interaction.

I hit a street sign and a mailbox (together) but the fire hydrant saw me coming and jumped out of the way.

Marcia

Here is the full tub of Fresh Lilacs fabric. Each block we do only takes a few little snippets. I took great pleasure in cutting up that border for the large points on this one. But it really didn't make a dent. Now I can't locate that table runner pattern.
