Alva I believe Bonnie explained it and said that unit size is what matters and not the seam allowance. I like your greens!

Didn't work for me either AlvaStitcher. I think it's the same for others on this board that are making their bonus HST's separate. I could sometimes make it work if I had about an 1/8 of an inch seam. But then I wouldn't want that in a quilt. Sometimes theory is better than reality.

Many people on FB are all saying b/c it is on the bias it won't fray and the seam will hold. I've never done such a tiny seam allowance so can't speak from experience, maybe it will, but I will not be putting those tiny seam allowances in my quilt

I girded my loins and tried the method with the bonus triangles. I like it. Yes the seam allowance is sparse, but I just bumped my stitch setting down to 1.8 and on the bias it will be fine. My normal stitch length is 2.1

AlvaStitcher and toverly, I'm with you ................ I tried making 1 unit Bonnie's way with the bonus triangles ..... just didn't work, those slim seams just make me nervous so I'll do those HSTs separate.

I cut my green yardage for my second quilt, and it was just barely enough for the half chevrons and the extra HSTs (when not using the first method with the bonus units). However, checking my receipt I see that I bought 1 3/8 yd., whereas 1 1/4 yd. was specified in the intro, so those having just 1 1/4 yd. of green may come up a bit short if making the extra HSTs.

Lovely units being shown.

I tried a couple with the rectangle/squares and then a parallogram and correct size triangles with my die cutter. Usually, my die cutter is the way I would go but my chevron was slightly narrower than the rectangle/squares so I decided I would go with the latter. I had quite a few green and white triangles already cut by my die cutter so I think I will cut the rest of the bonus ones that way and use the rectangle/square bonus ones as centers for log cabin type of blocks.

I am still working on clues 1 and 2. I have all of the squares cut for clue 3 and am working on getting the rectangles cut.

SBG~ beautiful Allietare!

Great pieces/units here. Nice to hear everyone's take on sewing to achieve the right size of units.

I'm still working on a few units from steps 1 & 2~

I like seeing everyone’s progress so far.

Sewbizgirl, your Allietare is beautiful. Doesn’t it feel good to have it done. I think I have the fabric for that mystery in a box, but not started. Too many other projects ahead.

I have all of my steps cut out. I used my Accuquilt to cut out all of step #3. I have marked all of step 3, just need to finish marking step #2 and the rest of the week is devoted to sew, sew, sew. I’m not using the ruler methods. I just use my old tried and true methods. As for step #3 I just cut the green fabric to size and cut the small sqs to her measurements and marked the sqs and now to sewing. I also decided to make a throw quilt for myself. I’m still undecided.

Happy sewing everyone.
