I have designed mine in EQ in red and cream to fit my twin sized bed 67x85", which is the correct drop for my slightly elevated bed. The instructions posted here always show the black lines for the patches and blocks [not a complaint]. I just wanted to post a side-by-side comparison with and without the lines to show how different it looks. I really like the look without the lines.

Thanks for posting QuiltnNan, I like it without also. The lines help determine the pieces but it looks even better without.

I like the every 2 weeks, Jane...initially there is a lot of cutting in this quilt and one can only cut for so long. I jumped the gun a little bit because I knew it was going to take me a little extra time to pick and sort my fabrics.
Last night finished sewing my 4P's, but have a lot of cutting yet to do. Thanks for the EQ images, QnNan..I too did mine in EQ, but didn't look at it with out the lines. What a difference! I've got my EQ program opening so I can see how mine will look. Thanks again. |

You know it's time to jump in and join the fun when you are pinning every scrappy Burgoyne Surrounded on Pinterest that there is and even dreaming about it! :D Yep, that's me!
I am wanting a controlled scrappy, so I'm cutting out all the pieces for each block separately and kitting them up in sandwich baggies. But I will be sewing along with the group here. Jane, I think the two week plan should work just fine. :) |

I think your floral backgrounds are lovely. They're overall light so I think they work just fine. I felt in love with the scrappy version at first sight. I decided I had to give it a try, although is far from my comfort zone (I usually choose easy patterns in small sizes). However, I was discouraged because it's a lot of work, and I wasn't sure if I'd be able to do it on my own. I'm so happy since jclinganrey opened this thread... now I have the goal I needed. I'm tired of selecting-pressing-measuring-cutting low volume scraps, but thinking positive: I'm using A LOT of them, so they will stop being 'junk' and soon will become a beautiful quilt (well, that's what I hope). I also spin the center of my four/nine patches, although I do it in a more lazy way (before pressing, and not using scissors; just pulling gently each one of the seams in the opposite direction. Then, I press). |

givio...I am not figuring background fabric as I will be using the same bg fabric throughout the whole quilt. I plan on cutting bg fabric as I need it. Following instructions in Lyn B's PDF, the cuts are 1.5 and 2.5" for the 15" finished block. According to my calculations each block: Circle (O's) 1- 1.5 x 26" strip 1- 5 x 6.5" piece, subcut 2- 2.5 x 6.5 or 1- 2.5 x 13" strip Chain (X's) 2 - 1.5 x 15 (one for 4P's, other for 9P's) 1- 5 x 6 piece, subcut 2- 2.5 x 6 or 1- 2.5 x 12" strip I have not figured how many 1.5" strips I will need for connecting sashing 9P's. These I plan to do scrappy darks...originally going to use both dark and light reds, but changed my mind. As I cut into my red scraps I am cutting 1.5" strips for the connecting 9P's. I am not going to do the first pieced 1.5" squares border, but planning on the "floating border" before the outer border. If anyone else has figured differently please correct...I have added a little extra length to allow for ruler slippage. Have 23 circle sets cut and 16 chain sets. Figure an extra 3 blocks can be used in a bed runner if I want. |
Jane - I like the "every two weeks" as it helps keep me on track, but gives me enough time to get it done. Especially since this is not the only "quilt along" I'm working on right now.
I still have not decided what colors I want to go with - hopefully I'll have time this weekend to make up my mind. But on a good side, I'm getting a few floppies put together while I'm waffling on colors for this quilt! |
I think I have joined although not confirmed. Love the pattern and the very two week schedule and love all the directions you have given, jclinganrey. Still in pursuit of my choices from my stash, seems it is still one tote away from where I have looked. Company yesterday, but back on track today, so I can wash the pieces I am going to use without slashing. Love the help hints from everyone.
