Anael...I love your Fairyland quilts. When I move, I'll give you my new address to send me one of them...:o

You should! I'm not promising I'll send one of the Fairyland quilts though :D

Teen 01-22-2019 02:10 PM

Lol....worth a try to get my hands on one of your fairyland quilts. Dang...

Come on over....hopefully, there will be one left for you...

OMGosh....in the shed, I found a tote filled with tax returns dated in the 70's & 80's for both of us. Hilarious! We both pulled out our very first W2 ever received then shredded the rest. I was 14 years old and I earned $374. Lol... Please tell me I'm not the only one who saved this stuff beyond the destroy date. Now, need to make sure our tax returns are never stored in an unsecured location again. Geesh...

Blue Bell 01-22-2019 02:42 PM

I am a saver, too. Takes up a lot of space, space that could be used for fabric.

sewingitalltogether 01-22-2019 06:52 PM

Thanks for the good comments. I'm so in love with this pattern. Working on it everyday. I am hoping my pile goes down. May have to make 2 or 3 quilts.
Teen, love your fuzzy squares. Very nice. And the applique on the center block.

Teen 01-22-2019 07:07 PM

Thank you! I'm loving the HB pattern. And I loved making GTSB, as you are finding the same. You definitely won't get bored with a Kingwell pattern. I'll likely make GTSB again but there are so many of her patterns to do....lol.. Looking forward to seeing more of your work, sewingitalltogether!

I said I'm not promising...........I didn't say I won't do it nor did I say I will :) :)

I thought I was keeping stuff but not that long. I learned to throw stuff away. I don't like Molly Maid duties but I don't like clutter either.

I won't make a second GBST any time soon again. I'm working on my second (and 3rd but you didn't hear that!!!!) GW, still need to finish BD and start a few other Kingwells.

Finished the corner block. Can't remember the name. And the Churn Dash block. Got the background ready for the Orange Peel but haven't decided what colors to make the applique shapes. I hoping to prep the flower centers and petals on the flower panr. Hey, I found these great green Flying Geese strips in my scrap box. I could add some sashing to make a 12" block ? ? They were from a quilt that wanted me to sew these around every block on the quilt. I made 3 and decided that was enough. Put a solid fabric in the sashing instead.
It's freezing cold again. All schools cancelled second day. Buses can't get down the icy roads.

Anael 01-24-2019 11:28 AM

Love your blocks Gail. You can do whatever you want, it's your quilt.

It's freezing cold here too. I was going to visit a friend this afternoon but I cancelled. It's too cold to bike almost an hour just for a cup of coffee. Tomorrow it will be better they say.

sewingitalltogether 01-24-2019 01:47 PM

No, I'm too old to even get on a bike. Last time I was on a bike I flipped over the front, landed on a rock! Had stitches in my forehead and broke or crushed my elbow. And we were in another country, that wouldn't take my insurance. Dr. and hospital wanted cash only. No credit cards. But an hour on a bike in the winter doesn't sound like a great afternoon.
I will have to look at those Flying Geese strips on my design wall for awhile before I decide.

oksewglad 01-24-2019 03:28 PM

Great start sewingitall! Makes me want to start one of these...but I promised myself I must work on a couple of WIPs and UFO's first!

Teen 01-24-2019 07:09 PM

Looks great,sewingitall.......you are moving right along.

went to a Road to Calif. today and there was a GTSB on a booth wall using 1930's. It was adorable. Spoke with the quilter and she said they designed precut stabilizer for a lot of the applique blocks and did a BOM. They are doing the same for Queen's Crossing pattern. I took her business card for her shop and now I cannot finding. Lol...oh well.. Beautiful and amazing quilts displayed. Best of Show had also won at Lancaster, too, I think. Saw many of the same quilts from previous shows.... The Pink Flamingo was at Paducah, too, and it was for sale for $7800. Yowza. I didn't think it worth that much but whatever.. Anywhooo...had a lovely day with SIL....and yes, I bought some stuff and met Edna Satir. Her booth was amazing.

oksewglad 01-24-2019 07:22 PM

Sounds like a fun day, Teen! How's the "move" going? Best of luck over the next couple of weeks!

Blue Bell 01-24-2019 08:47 PM

Teen, How lucky you are to have met Edyta. She is one of my favorite designers. I made one table topper and a basket quilt started.
What is your move date? Am I too late to snail mail you?

Teen 01-26-2019 09:11 AM

Been absent a couple of days. We are in jeopardy of falling out of escrow..ugh! Buyers are nervous. They have 2 days to fulfill contract or we are cancelling. We have already relisted and have a buyer coming today so, needless to say, Under some stress here. Also, sister is having surgery on Tuesday so a lot on my mind right now. Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated..

Bluebell...you are so sweet...thank you for thinking of me. You can snail mail me...hugs!

Hug received! Thank you, my friend!!

in the meantime, stress strategy... All done with the blocks for Happy Birds... These are 36 blocks for Border 2 and just need setting triangles...using that pretty gray fabric with birdies on it..Assemble time..

oksewglad 01-26-2019 11:19 AM

Oh dear...hope all turns out for your sister and of course the house is a big issue as well...thinking of your and wishing the best.

Anael 01-26-2019 11:27 AM

Love the border 2 blocks!! Have a good time assembling your Happy Birds.

I just made a BD block, at least I thought I did. Turns out I still need 2/3 of the same block before it's finished :D :D One of the final border blocks, they're quite large.

Teen 01-26-2019 02:14 PM

Thank you, both, for the good wishes.....

Anael...you are close finishing BD, yes? I have not purchased that pattern yet...but I will...lol..

Anael 01-26-2019 11:13 PM

No not really. I am still working on the last part of the second border and then I need the last border. I have 3 blocks of that one. It's not going fast as I am taking a long time selecting fabrics and still I'm not so sure about the choices!

Teen 01-27-2019 08:50 AM

I'm sure it will be beautiful, Anael. I finished border 2 with the setting triangles and now sewing all the blocks together for border 4. All that is left is sewing the hexi's for border 1 and 3. I'm close. I did the freezer paper and starch method on hexi's just to try a different method of applique...it worked well and there is no stiff stabilizer to contend with but takes longer to do...

Anael 01-27-2019 09:26 AM

You're more confident than I am :)
Freezer paper and starch method: you iron on freezer paper, starch the fabric, iron the seams and remove the freezer paper? Or starch the fabric first before ironing on the paper?

Teen 01-27-2019 09:37 AM

Freezer paper first, starch as you turn edge...I used a Q-Tip but others use small brushes. I didn't have one accessible and Q-tip worked. I thought about using the paper pieces for hexi's and glue but you still have to starch good before pulling out paper pieces. I am all about quick techniques... Lol

Anael 01-27-2019 10:46 AM

So you pull the paper out before sewing the hexi's down I guess? Otherwise you sew the paper to the fabric and can't get it out anymore.
Do you make your own starch?

Sure wish I knew how to turn my pictures. Here is the top right hand of the quilt. Section 2. The top part of it, not the whole section 2.
I didn't like the 12" block JK had. So, I found one in Block Base that is very close. It's called Dove in the Window from the Kansas City Star 1939. Has a few names. This block was a handful! I did cut off a few points. I'm not winning any awards for this quilt. My sister calls it my acceptable allowance of mistakes. Also added the purple flower block below it and the Churn Dash to the right. I can already see areas that I want to rip out and replace. Still digging through my pile of scraps piled up on the floor. Good Grief. But I am glad to be using all those scraps.
Looks to be horribly cold this. Week. This quilt has definitely gotten me out of my recliner and into my sewing room for a good 5 hours a day. I'm not fast, just persistent.

Teen 01-28-2019 03:26 PM

Looking great, sewingitalltogether! Your improvisation is working out super. I like the dove block...those Y-seams are a bit challenging. The pattern can, also, be challenging. Just take one block at a time as you are doing.

Anael...yes, remove freezer paper before sewing..otherwise, you'll have a real mess on your hands..lol.. For starch, I just used Best Press....worked great...

I was able to a sew a bit again today and sewed border 1 on to center. Had to miter corners and found a super easy method. Turned out really nice. Next border is ready to go on and has Y-seams at the corner....tackling that tomorrow as I wait to hear news of sister in surgery. My anxiety has been thru the roof. Our house is back on the market....had 2 buyers yesterday so we'll see how fast we can make this happen.

You sure you want to tackle the Yseams while waiting? For me that would be a recipe to disaster.

For your sister. I know it's early, here it's 8 am. I will burn a candle for her all day, can't to it tonight as I won't be home.

Anael 01-29-2019 12:11 AM

Teen, my dear friend, hang in there. I can't say it will be ok but you will get through this somehow.

Blue Bell 01-29-2019 07:58 AM

Teen, Hugs and healing thoughts for your sister.

Anael 01-29-2019 09:05 AM

The second border of BD is finished. Now to finish all the large blocks of the 3rd and final border. This afternoon I went for a ride and tonight I have a meeting so no sewing. Maybe tomorrow.
Picture tomorrow!

Teen.........you're hanging in there?

Judith1005 01-29-2019 01:04 PM

Teen, I am keeping your sister in my thoughts and prayers. I hope all goes well.

I have been without cable and internet the last five days. It has felt like forever. It's not the same doing a quick check in off the phone. But, it was the only way to have wifi.

I do hope you go back into a sale soon. I will think only happy thoughts for you. My daughter and son-in-law just had a terrible experience buying a house. Everything under the sun went wrong. Between builder to loan. They closed almost 2 1/2 months late. They finally worked it out. But, it stole some of the joy from the whole experience. They are working through it.

You are all just the sweetest and I so appreciate the thoughts and prayers today for my sister. Anael...the candle is lovely. Thank you so much! I will share with her when I can speak with her about the special people who are praying for her.

She was in surgery for 5 hrs and was just placed in her room. She did well and is feeling ok for now but the pain will likely come. She's got a drip she controls and my other sisters will push the button if she can't, believe me. Lol.. I did not sleep at all last night and I found no one in Georgia did either so they are all exhausted...as am I. But, this part is over and she can begin to heal. Chemo comes in a couple of weeks and I'll be with her for that. One more hurdle...

I should have listened to you Anael and not tackle Y-Seams today....They were little boogers but they are done. Just 2 more borders to sew on and we are good to go... Here is HB as of today....

Judith1005 01-29-2019 02:07 PM

Teen, thanks for the update.

I love the calming gray you used with the patterned fabric. It has a wonderful balance.

Teen 01-29-2019 02:48 PM

Thanks, Judith. The pattern also used grays with the scrappy so I just followed the same theme....tho, I did use a FQ bundle and blenders from stash, I still liked the gray backgrounds.

I'm sorry your kids had a terrible experience with their new home. The roller coaster ride is the hardest and thought my DH would stroke out. He felt better when we took their deposit. Enough to pay for moving company charges so I think it worked out to our advantage. We are not worried and will just wait it out. I really didn't want to move during the winter so it should work out better for us in the long term.

sewingitalltogether 01-29-2019 05:06 PM

Love the quilt. Glad your sister is out of surgery. I've had family members recently who did chemo. No fun.

Anael 01-30-2019 06:47 AM

Thank you Teen for the update. Hopefully she's ok and the painmeds are working. Now to recover and heal.

Your Happy Birds is lovely!!!

costumegirl 01-30-2019 07:25 AM

Wow Teen that is beautiful!! You are doing a terrific job! Y seams can definitely be difficult and frustrating!

Sending prayers and thoughts for your sister, you and your family. I hope things will improve soon.

Teen 01-30-2019 06:22 PM

Thank you ladies.... I'm loving how my HB is turning out. I've been making this over the course of my sisters illness and have cried all over it in intervals so I decided I'm giving this to her when completed. It's cheerful...plus, she collects bird houses so I think it was meant for her. Plus she loves the quilts I've made her and currently she and my older sister are using them in hospital right now... Ok...done feeling meloncholy.....lol... Thanks for listening!,:)

Thanks for continued thoughts and prayers..

Mousie 01-30-2019 08:41 PM

been lurking and have said prayers for your sister Teen.

Anael 01-30-2019 10:00 PM

That's so sweet Teen. I'm sure she will love the Happy Birds and all the tears in it!
