Here's my BD. The three blocks of the final border aren't in the picture as I wasn't able to put them in the right place.

Anael, your BD is coming along beautifully. It is very colorful.

oksewglad 01-31-2019 07:11 AM

Lovely, Anael!

Anael 01-31-2019 07:31 AM

Thank you ladies!

Teen 01-31-2019 09:20 AM

Thank you, Mousie! That is so sweet...

Fantastic BD, Anael! This was a lot of work. Gracious!

Anael 01-31-2019 09:27 AM

Thanks Teen!!

How is your sister doing?

Teen 01-31-2019 09:40 AM

Having trouble staying in front of pain, Anael. She's not responding to pain med's given and had allergic reaction to morphine. A tad better this morning but they are still attempting to make comfortable. She got up twice yesterday and walked halls but paid for it later. I got to talk with her last night...I'm so proud of her. Thank you for asking, Anael.

Anael 01-31-2019 09:51 AM

Please give her a hug for me Teen? I'm so sorry she's in pain and not responding well to pain meds. I know all to well about that :( Hopefully each day she will improve a bit, even if it's just a tiny bit!

oksewglad 01-31-2019 09:58 AM

Prayers for your sister, Teen. I have a sister that's in constant pain from sciatica issues...can only sit for a short period of time. It's so hard to watch them go through this...even if it's from afar.

Teen 01-31-2019 10:12 AM

Thank you, both! And, I hope so, Anael.

OK...that is so sad for your sister. Bless her heart...I'm be praying for her, too.

Anael 01-31-2019 10:27 AM

OK, so sorry to hear that. Hugs for you and your sister too!

oksewglad 01-31-2019 05:48 PM

Thanks gals...And she still sews! She had a friend put her machine up on her eating counter in the kitchen. She then stands and sews, mostly quilts for Project Linus.

Teen 01-31-2019 06:21 PM

Remarkable lady, OK. Love to hear stories like this.

I should have HB top done tomorrow or Saturday. I'll share when done... Going to make a matching pillow...have no clue yet of pattern...my Quilt Lovely book is packed so'll find something.

Blue Bell 01-31-2019 07:58 PM

Sending prayers for a quick recovery.

Thank you, BB! Hugs!

Here is the completed Happy Birds top. It assembled so nicely. So, on this project you can expect, applique, mitered corners, Y-seams (but you can get around this by assembling differently...which I wish I did ugh!), curved piecing, EPP, setting triangles.....and lots of opportunity for fuzzy cutting if you choose...Yowza, Jen sure did add diverse techniques on this pattern. I really like it! I may unpack my big machine and quilt this.

Anael 02-01-2019 01:30 PM

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh stunning Teen!!!!!!!!!!!! Can I borrow it one day? You can use one of the Fairylands for a while :) :)

Teen 02-01-2019 01:36 PM

Thank you, sweetie!! You'll have to ask sister to borrow.....but, dang, dangling Fairyland is just plain mean..:D

This pattern, actually, goes quickly and I would have finished fast if I could work on it more. As it was, an evening project for a couple of months worked well. You'll enjoy this pattern when you get to it.

sewingitalltogether 02-01-2019 02:09 PM

Wow, that's pretty! Love the softer colors. Seems like nothing I sew has soft colors. But, yours is very attractive. I'm coming to enjoy making a different pattern each block. Each with a different technique.

Judith1005 02-01-2019 02:26 PM

Teen, awesome job. It came together beautifully!

Blue Bell 02-01-2019 03:24 PM

Most beautiful quilt, Teen. Your sister will love it.

:D :D

Before I start I need background fabric, like your birds ;) No, I can't start!! I need to finish BD and the GW's I started. BD needs 16 more blocks so that's what I'm going to finish first.

PamelaOry 02-01-2019 11:15 PM

Hello! I am in love with Your latest finish Teen, and it brings me back to Jen Kingwell again. I’ve been drawn to her work before. Is there a beginner or confident beginner pattern that she does?

Anael 02-01-2019 11:30 PM

Hi Pamela! Welcome here!!
I think I would start with Long Time Gone. No applique or curved piecing, no mitered corners, no Y seams.....
I also had a lot of fun making Gypsy Wife though some consider that not an easy pattern.

Teen 02-02-2019 08:48 AM

Thank you, lovelies!!! And, hi, Pamela! Welcome to Kingwell world. I have made only 2 of her patterns so far and they were not the simplist of her patterns. I'm drawn to her applique patterns mostly. Long Time Gone is on my list and I agree with Anael that it's a good pattern to start for a new quilter. Standard type blocks...

Teen 02-02-2019 03:17 PM

I'm not able to unpack bigger machine to quilt HB.....Buyers are flooding to my house. Lol!! Yea! Had one today and 2 tomorrow. Who goes house hunting on the day of SuperBowl? Geesh! I instructed my agent to tell them to bring chicken wings... Lol! Anywhoooo....maybe, one of them is it!

On another note: sister has been released and is currently at home. Pain is manageable and improved exponentially when they removed all those tubes inside her. I spoke with her today and she sounds wonderful and pictures show she looks beautiful! As does my mother. There's no place like home!

Teen 02-02-2019 03:19 PM

Also....playing in HB scraps and making dresdens....have no idea what to do with them but, turning out pretty.

Blue Bell 02-02-2019 05:36 PM

So happy that your sister is home and doing well. There is no place like home and she will recover quicker at home.
And so happy that that there are lookers and hopefully there will soon be a taker for your home. Thinking positive thoughts for you and your sister.

Anael 02-02-2019 10:30 PM

Yeahhhhhhh for your sister!!!!! So happy she's home again. Now to regain strength before taking the next step.

It's the bottom right hand of the quilt GTSB. The Windmill blocks went together easily. I'm trimming them now. The applique block #5 below is just pinned and glued. I'm trying out border fabrics so I have the long strip hanging next to it all to see how I like it.
Hope all are doing well. The big freeze has warmed up to 38 degrees. Wow, a heat wave.

Teen 02-03-2019 09:47 AM

Really coming together. Loving the colors....

I love your blocks Gail!!
Enjoy the heat wave :D :D

I went for a ride today, the weather was great. No rain - finally!
Here's a picture I took at Twente Airport. It's a kestrel diving to it's prey

sewingitalltogether 02-03-2019 10:30 AM

It's batik scraps from the last 15-18 years. A lot of it cut up into the perfect size for this quilt. I see that I'm running low on background fabrics. I just kept throwing the leftover scraps in my big box.

Yesterday's block. Need to finish the applique this morning. I'm going to wait on the corners. I can't see the flower centers from far away. I think I will use my inktense pencils to highlight or darken it. sent a picture of my progress to my sister and she said that "it's a busy quilt". So, I'm going to see as more blocks are added what I can do to make it a bit less busy. I don't know how though.
Sewing all day. Everything is closed due to thick ice outside. Schools, even the rec center where I do water aerobics.

Anael 02-06-2019 04:36 AM

Love that block!! Jen's quilts are busy, all of them. The originals that is. It totally depends on the fabrics and colors used. And still........they're busy :)

Teen 02-06-2019 12:02 PM

Cool picture, Anael!! I don't think the prey faired well.

sewingitalltogether...that block is one of my favorites in my own quilt. Well done! Kingwell patterns are crazy busy patterns, which is what makes her designs so unique. As Anael said, color and fabric placement is key to avoid too busy results. I read that Kingwell does not repeat a single fabric in her scrap quilts, which makes hers busier than most.m That is too much work for me. Lol..

Finished the hand applique on the basket block. All the shapes are padded. The berries have a layer of batting, so they are good and puffy. Still need to soak it to get out my markings, the glue and the padding puffs out after wetting it.

Ok, I cut out clam shells today. Really had to sift through my pile of scraps to find pieces big enough. So....what's the inside secret on sewing these clam shells??

Teen 02-06-2019 05:23 PM

Berry basket is so pretty!!! I turned edge and applique'd my clamshells...except for the side pieces and bottom pieces, only the tops of them have to be turned edge. And,like all my applique, I machine sewed.

Judith1005 02-06-2019 06:16 PM

Anael, that is a great photo of the hawk. We get really huge hawks in our neighborhood. And, when my son's dog was just a few weeks old, a hawk tried to swoop out of the sky and grab him. It left a very definite impression on him. He was afraid to go into the back yard for a long time. (I don't blame him either.) My son realized what was happening just in time to save him. Let's just say, the hawk was not pleased. (Snowy is only and 11 lb. dog as a senior dog.)

Sewingitalltogether, that is a beautiful block. I love that color blue. Pretty colors on your clamshells also. It is going to be one pretty block section.
