I'm hoping and planning to work the mystery as scheduled on New Year's Day but my body sometimes has other ideas about how productive I'll be on any given day. At the very least I'll collect the clues so I can work another time if I need to.

I've got my HSTs cut and stitched today, they just need to be pressed!

I tell you, I was dismayed to see the 7/8" measurement stuff as I'm a Thangles type of gal, so when Part 2 came up I got happy again! I'm going to try to get those done before New Year's Day.

KatieBock242, though part of the fun is doing it on New Year's Day, wondering how it's all going to go together as you go along, you can definitely get the clues and print them out throughout the day to work on and finish on your own. But get them printed that day; the hints will be removed soon after.

Thank you for the information about the Mystery Quilt. I definitely print off the instructions on New Year's Day. If all goes well with the rest of my quilting on the Christmas Wreath quilt that I'm working on which I should have finished in about a week, then I'll be able to start on the mystery quilt.
Happy Quilting.Hugs Katie

If I'm reading the pattern correctly, the HST's are finishing at 3", correct?

Well, since it appears we've lost 3 or 4 days of posts, I thought I'd re-post the link to the Merry Mayhem mystery: https://merrymayhem.com/onedaymystery.html Scroll down to find the individual steps -- we've had two so far.

jmoore 12-30-2019 05:39 PM

After diving into my modest stash today I have discovered I will only be able to do the small size as I do not have any large cuts of fabric...I did find one 2 yard piece of whale print. I’m not sure these will work pursuant to the fabric suggestions but we’ll see how it goes. I am really trying to use up fabric I have on hand in the coming year.

Quossum 12-30-2019 07:49 PM

Here are my fabrics. A little on the crazy side with the novelty print, but that’s what I get for sticking to what I have in my stash!

Quossum I like your fabric choice. I too had to shop my stash. The black floral print was what I had left from doing a one block wonder quilt. I originally ordered 10 yards of it but ended up using 6.5 yards.

joe'smom 12-31-2019 10:49 AM

I'm not getting photos showing up, is anyone else having this problem?

Watson 12-31-2019 12:50 PM

Me, too, joe'smom.

How did you see her fabrics? All I see is a circle with a -.

The pictures are show up fine for me. I saw to add pictures you are suppose to click the go advance button. There is a paper clip next to the smiley face icon and you are to click on that to add pictures. It's not working for me. Now I able to get it to work. I had to post my reply then turn around to edit to add the picture. You click on the paper clip next to the smiley face. The upload you photo is at the top of the page. This picture is just a test.

Queenbarbiej 12-31-2019 01:13 PM

Yeah it worked. It's a long way around to post pictures now. Terrible upgrade to this site. They should have left it alone.

OK - testing the new way to post pics. This is a pic of the Cuts and Bolts mystery I did yesterday. Still have 4 blocks of the 2nd one to finish before assembly.

Belfrybat 01-01-2020 07:05 AM

Third clue is posted. Let the fun begin! https://merrymayhem.com/uploads/3/4/...43-nyd-pt3.pdf

I am behind as I just decided yesterday to do this mystery. I hope not to start the new year with another UFO.....
I shopped from my stash last night and picked this fabric selection. Decided to do the full size. So got most of the cutting done and a start on the HSTs. Hopefully they can be leader and enders as the clues progress.

joe'smom 01-01-2020 07:28 AM

Belfry, those blocks are gorgeous!

I can see I'm going to swiftly fall behind here, as it's taken me almost the whole hour to get 1 block done. That being said, it is a good motivator to continue as I'm loving how it looks. I'll try attaching a photo here, crossing my fingers that the picture function works for me.

Please excuse my wonky piecing (particularly on that first row- yikes!), I am still a newbie.

vadalia 01-01-2020 08:00 AM

quilt_addict, that focus fabric is gorgeous!

The next part has been posted. I'm already behind as I'd forgotten to go back and trim up the HSTs, so am trimming as I go. But as I remind myself, this is not a race . https://merrymayhem.com/uploads/3/4/...43-nyd-pt4.pdf
I have church at noon followed by lunch, so will work on these first two and come back mid-afternoon for the rest.

I’ve not done this mystery before. And coming late to the party. But decided to give it a go. I shopped from my stash so it’s not perfect. I had trouble finding a yard of something that matched for fabric C. But this is what I finally settled on. Hope my fabrics are not too busy.
New way to post pictures is confusing.

Belfrybat 01-01-2020 08:24 AM

Blue - Glad you are joining us. I agree about the confusion. Your pic didn't come through. I've discovered that I have to widen the attachment window all the way across the screen to find the upload button.

Thanks! Got it to post.

Quossum 01-01-2020 09:01 AM

Finished with Step 3! Boy, I'm loving the color choices y'all have been posting! One of the greatest things about the mystery is seeing the various ways people have combined colors. Thanks for sharing, everyone!

(I've been having trouble getting images to show, too. Hopefully this works!)

Next clue is posted: https://merrymayhem.com/uploads/3/4/...43-nyd-pt5.pdf

Quossum - great colours. And you got the pic to post full size!
Blue - love your colour choices as well.
I'm off to church and will be back mid-afternoon.

Watson 01-01-2020 09:27 AM

This started out with a bang, but it is getting more reasonable at it goes along. Parts 4 & 5 give you a breather.

I am behind because I didn't trim my HSTs either. Also watching the Rose Parade slows me down. Taking a coffee break to warm up a bit.

Here is my first block.

Changed fabric C. I think I like this better. Just started cutting. So I’m very behind.

joe'smom 01-01-2020 09:34 AM

BlueRidge, love your fabrics!

I haven't taken a stitch yet but have all the pieces organized by my machine. I'm very impressed with how well this mystery is run and the clarity of the directions.

Quossum 01-01-2020 09:38 AM

The steps are getting intriguing. Where are we going with these units??

Quossom- those look so fun!

Also, how are you getting full sized pictures on your posts? I know how to get the smaller version but didn't know we could do the bigger ones.

vadalia 01-01-2020 11:02 AM

Holy cow, the final reveal is wild!

Belfrybat 01-01-2020 11:11 AM

I love the reveal! Fabulous. For those getting the steps from this site, the last two are:
Part 6: https://merrymayhem.com/uploads/3/4/...43-nyd-pt6.pdf
Part 7 (reveal): https://merrymayhem.com/uploads/3/4/...43-nyd-pt7.pdf

This is the first time I’ve participated in the Merry Mayhem mystery and loved it. I didn’t have any large fabric cuts of more than a yard of anything so I went with a lap size. I love the secondary pattern and I will definitely be doing this in a larger quilt at some point in time.

Blueridgebeverly 01-01-2020 12:22 PM

Jmoore, that’s gorgeous. The fabric choices you made really gives the pattern pop.

costumegirl 01-01-2020 12:33 PM

jmoore - Great job!! I'm liking your color combination - very cute results!!

Unfortunately I am not able to get many of the pics posted in this discussion thread to show the progress of those that are busily sewing - it may be glitches with this new forum format - hopefully the pics will eventually come through. The only ones that I can see are the fisrt few at the beginning of the thread and then the last pic which is jmoore's.

I really like the pattern in the step 7 reveal!!! So much fun!! and the clues seems to be well written - I don't have time to work on this mystery today but I did download the clues for another day - Thank you for updating the links so it was easy to find and follow.

Just a quick question - what is the final size of the HST blocks? - I think someone asked but didn't see the answer - Could someone verify the size please.
I will be watching to see if more pics come through :)

joe'smom 01-01-2020 12:36 PM

Quossom, for some reason I can't see your pictures.

jmoore, that looks wonderful!

Quossum 01-01-2020 12:54 PM

Wow! I'm really impressed with the reveal on this one! One of the best mysteries I've done. I really didn't see it coming. If I had realized, I might have made the larger size. Might still do a larger one some time. I love the woven look.

As far as my pictures, I've just been copying and pasting them from Google photos, but apparently that makes it so that some people can see them while others can't. Very odd.

Here's my stopping place for the day:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/HL...T=w703-h937-no

I'm going to have to put on borders later. I'm not sure I have enough, but I'd like to use the dark green fabric for binding. I'll post more pictures as I finish more of it. And maybe try to figure out how to attach pictures that are visible to everyone!

Thanks for stitching along! I LOVE the photos that everyone has shared. That whale fabric is wonderful! And the florals take it in a different direction, too. I love seeing the same patterns in different colorways!

Happy New Year, everyone!
