might be easier to follow Jenny's blog posts (http://www.quiltingboard.com/blogs/jenniky-24751.html) where all the QAYG stuff has been collected in one place.

I definitely want to be part of this but here's a dumb question - how do I follow your thread? I have purchased at least 4 books on QAYG and not one of them teaches me the technique.

I had forgotten about her blog. LOL

This is a photo of some of my orphan blocks. My daughter walked by the board the other day and literally yelled, "This is MY quilt!" She wants to redo her bedroom in black/white/red with just a touch of turquoise. These are all the orphans, but I have more of the same fabrics in my scraps, but am thinking about incorporating more blk/white/red prints and I am also trying to decide how to add the turquoise. Any suggestions?
|
If ya are goin' ta do this QAYG the joinin' strips could be turquoise. You're doin' great! I bet it'll be purdy!
|
Since you have to make plenty of other blocks and partial blocks yet, you can easily add in the turquoise with those. I only see 4 whole blocks with no turquoise, so if you make at least that many, or maybe one more or one less blocks that are mostly turquoise with only black, that will balance out the 4 without turquoise. The rest can be a blend of all sorts like the partials you already have there. I think this will be a stunning quilt when you are finished!
I think I would, IMHO, find a fabric for the turq. like the red, and stick with that, using it as sparsely as the red overall. But would like to see some blocks with strips of both red and turq. in them. I think I would use one of the black fabrics for the QAYG strips rather than the red or turq. |

I found another stack of orphans and some strips I had made out of the black/white/red, so I am busy making additional blocks. I still haven't decided on a final setting, maybe the large HSTs as borders around the crazy log cabins. I like the thin turquoise between the HSTs, may add a flange or thin turquoise border around the log cabin center.
|
Wildyard, I like your idea of adding just a touch of the turquoise in some of the crazy blocks, going to go make some right now.
|
Oh my! that li'le bit o' turquoise just pops! Keep addin' it!
|
Very neat use of the colors.

Getting ready to sew the middle blocks together so that I can figure out if the HST blocks are approx the right size. Wish me luck.

Good luck. It looks AWESOME so far.

Ok I have a big question here. I have read thru this but still not sure if what I started months ago before this was available will work. So hope some of you experienced QAYGers can tell me if I'm on the right track or not.
I am trying black fleece as dual purpose backing/batting and thinking of using black flannel as my narrow strips on the back side. My dilemma is that I want to use wider sashing with cornerstones on the top side. An idea I had (which I don't know whether will work or not) is to do my SID quilting with three sides of the sashing and cornerstones already on the block, then stitch the unsashed edge to the sashed edge of the adjoining block and somehow cover the resulting seam with the flannel sashing strip on the back. Would have to trim fleece very close to seam line. But I'm wondering if that won't still end up being lumpy. Can anyone tell me if there is a way to make this work or am I way out in left field? Thanks in advance! |

Didn't have much time to work on my 'Happy Accident' quilt this weekend, but you can see on the left hand side where I am headed with this quilt. My daughter, Heather, loves it and that is all that counts.

I posted a picture of my finished quilt in the picture section. I used your method, Jenny and loved it. It's giving me the courage to keep going so I'm currently doing it with a BOM I'm doing. Glad that you're enjoying your winter in AZ! |
Beautiful job and a really beautiful quilt.

Wow everyone has been doing great. Heads up Im gearing up to start another QAYG Tutorial the beginning of April. The only hint I will give is that it will be a twist on the first tutorial we worked on. If all runs smoothly might even have a session ready last week of March. Sew .... If you are interested in following make sure to subscribe to this thread for updates.
Have and Awesome Day and remember we all are learning together..that's what makes this fun. :) |
I'm so glad that things are goin better for ya & your up ta another tute. :)

Hey, what happened to this thread?
|
Jenny had so many things that happened in her life & she'll do more soon.

Hey guys just found this thread and had a quick question- I am doing a DWR for my cousins wedding. Would it be feasible to quilt the rows, instead of just block by block and then join the rows? It works in my head but I have never done a DWR and don't know if I am just being overly optimistic!

DWR Double Wedding Ring
|
Sorry my bad- I do that to my husband constantly and it drives him nuts. My biggest concern is that it isn't straight- it would have to be curved- LOTS of curves in fact.
|
Looking forward to it, Jenni. I haven't been able to sew for a while, but hope to begin again soon. I finished my first QAYG using your method and it worked out great. I have another one ready to assemble...looking forward to your new method, also. Thank you for doing this for us.
|
your DWR would be done in blocks so rows would work. You will just have to be careful to pin to make sure it stays straight and your rings match.
I believe Jenniky taught a technique in our last session with this method. |
Thanks! I am still wading through all the information on this thread...and exploring other options too! I will let you guys know what I figure out!
|
franticlly waving............I'd love to learn!!! I have the worst time with this

Jen, so glad that you are going to do another one. I have one that I will be starting on and want to do the QAYG method, because it's going to be bigger than I usually do.
Have a great day!!! |

Heya my friend! So good to hear from you. :) This tutorial will be excellent for quilting large quilts on domestic machines.

I'm frantically working on my GS graduation quilt (queen size T-shirt using the BQ pattern--so can't do the QAYG as in the first tutorial we did, but figured I'd do it in thirds QAYG)....need to have it done by the end of April or sooner. So, I will watch this for that part...hopefully it will come along in time. Otherwise, I think I learned enough on that first one to do it in thirds.
|
As I was reading new items on the board I came across this QAYG method in the Tutorial section. http://www.quiltingboard.com/tutoria...ml#post5945600
Thought I would post it over here if anyone is interested and had not come across it. Im still working on piecing the top I will be sharing with the next method of quilting large quilts on a standard machine. Have a great day everyone. |
