Maybe across the pond it is a liter? I understand it's a hard go for Great Britain to leave the Imperial system behind after joining the EU...

OK, Here is the do-over. I think it looks so much better! I ended up making a template then using cut away applique for the almond border triangles. Here is before and after. Thanks again, Sewbizgirl. If I do another I will use a 3rd color for the border and use border triangles all the way around. See... you can teach an old dog new tricks!:D

I like it both ways.

Just checking in... been traveling today. I like what you did with your lap quilt, JJ.
Happy Birthday, DottyD! |
Just Jan you are going to hurt your back with this marathon sewing you are doing! I have to say I love the quilt "moving into the boarders" idea . Really, really nice...................Jane

I've been worried about my blocks on point in the boarder not "fitting", especially going around the corners. (I know we get our instructions tonight) . Then I read tartens and paper princess's idea to make the boarder first and adjust the tiny boarder to make it fit to the main quilt. The instructions were part of the post in "Twisted Boarders" thread at:
https://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f...s-t290874.html what a great idea.......So dont cut that tiny boarder yet ladies |
I just had another near disaster. I have been making my blocks all along and I thought I had squared each one before putting it on its stack. Well there were 5 of the Fresh lilacs that were never squared. After I did that, the 10 1/2 inch sashing strip fit nicely.
But I got confused on the part about the light brown. Those are the cornerstones. Right? For the fresh lilacs I am using dark purple. Then my beige for the sashing and the setting triangles. I cut some 7 inch squares and they don't fit anywhere. Has anyone else advanced this far? |
The corner triangles are an 8.5" square, cut on a diagonal. 2 of those make 4 corners. And the side/top triangles are 15 3/8" cut on the diagonal to make 10 from 5 squares.
I'll have to go look where you got 7 inches from. (are those for the boarder patches?) a Ok, I found it....it is fabric requirement. ie they want you to buy 7" of dark purple fabric to make all the corner stone in the quilt. Each cornerstone measures 2.5" square, and the edge cornerstones are cut bigger because they want you to put triangles cornerstones around the edges. |

Fresh lilacs put together. It seemed to take forever. Of course I did a bunch of extra work that had to be ripped out. One block was too small...again, so I just piece mealed some edges on it. Now on to the border squares. Marcia
