I am another that doesn't cut her scraps. I have made a crumb quilt and I used every shape and size. I feel that if I cut my scraps without a plan then when I go to use them they might not work for what I have in mind. I am presently making doll crumb quilts and again try to use the shape the fabric is in to start with but of course I have to cut some to make them fit. I will try and post a picture another day.

A crumb quilt uses your smallest pieces. The smallest I have used are probably 3/4" unfinished. How big you would use would be a bit subjective. My biggest might be 4" by 3" or 6" by 1" finished. Have you even seen a Victorian Crazy Quilt? Every shape imaginable but not too much in the way of curves. Scrappy but slightly controlled in mine. I cut mine to 6 1/2" square unfinished blocks then used 1 1/2" sashing in one colour which of course gave it more cohesion. Fun.

LydiaAlicia: I did mine while recovering from the flu. I was feeling better, bored but didn't have enough brain cells active to trust that I wouldn't make a mistake in the quilt that I had been working on. I know some others call it mindless sewing - great if you are tired or out of sorts. I really enjoyed doing it and I feel like I created something from nothing. It will soon be given to our accountant.

I just finished up a priority box of dog quilts and they are boxed up and ready to send. They were all made with scraps and a few were crumb quilts. They are not beautiful (oh Lydia your an inspiration) but I am trying harder to make them look nicer. The dog place I found to send them to is a rescue that sends a quilt home with a dog when it is adopted. They used my first ones to be given away with puppies and were down to only one so I got busy and finished up a box full.
Crumbing is so fun, you don't have to be perfect and you can add them together any way you want. I must say they are my favorites to make. At the rate I am going every quilt in my house will be done in crumbs. |

I didn't expect to ever get anything done with my scraps. So gave them to one of the churches which make quilts for charity. Mariah

Just home from a month of traveling the Province, and managed to get 9 scrappy stars sewn. Your quilts are quite beautiful. I am drawn to the one in the long arm.....looks like partially log cabin that is then rounded out like a fan with squares at edge of fan. I've been studying it to see how the block is actually assembled. Would love to have PM of how to build the block. Thank you for sharing your work.
