    Default Cake Made With Cornstarch

I recently saw a recipe for a cake made using eggs, sugar, and cornstarch along with flavoring if you desire. I am wondering if anyone has made this cake and if they were happy with the results. It seemed so different and I thought about trying it but don't really need cake at the present time and hesitate to add anything more to my freezer as I am trying to reduce all the extra things I seem to have accumulated in my freezer and cupboards. I am in downsizing mood all over my house at the present time. The cake is made by separating several eggs and beating the whites until stiff. One then adds the yolks into the beaten whites, add the sugar, and then the cornstarch and flavoring. No leavening was listed. Pictures showed it being baked in a tube pan at 350 degrees, It looked great and made me wonder if someone might have tried it.

This is interesting. Does it call for any flour? I am on a gluten-free diet and know we use cornstarch in many recipes because gluten-free flour is grainy and the cornstarch helps smooth it out a little. Let us know if you make it.

Be sure to separate eggs and beat whites until very stiff. Then add yolks one at a time beating well. You can add flavoring such as vanilla or lemon zest. Beat sugar in well and add cornstarch last. I have also seen other recipes and baking time varies so be sure to test before removing from oven. Don't mean to impose on your recipe but I am sure the beating of the egg whites is very important. Let us know how your cake comes out. You do grease the pan.

I wonder if this will turn out like an angel food cake. I wonder because cornstarch is used instead of eggs when you are out of them. I just went to buy eggs, no thank you. They were over $6.00 a doz. Chicks don't do well this time of year.

We collected 20 eggs the other day! Unusual for this time of year! Also, 2 hens have chicks!
I just need the time to bake. Maybe today! Will definitely report.

Finally made the cornstarch cake today. I only make 1/2 the recipe when it is new! Added cinnamon, then some choc chips on top of half.
It is edible, but has a weird texture, almost like meringue-cake. Won't make another one.
Another experiment in the oven now. Chocolate cake from... I forget where.
