Default Meatloaf w/a Twist

A friend, Scott, made some meatloaf and said he used Stovetop Stuffingfor the bread. Well, I tried it today, using:
Savory Herbs Stovetop Stuffing Mix, 1 lb. 80/20 Hamburger, 2 large eggs, a bit of milk, catsup and fine dice white onion.

Didn't even need to season, but I added pepper. Mixed it up and Wow.. It's probably the best tasting meatloaf I've ever made. He said he uses whatever box he has at the time he makes it. I love that the bread is already dry, seasoned and perfectly portioned for 1 lb. of hamburger, but Next time I might add some ground pork to the mix as well say about 1/4 lb to the hamburger.

Great info. Meatloaf is one of the meals I can still cook. My recipe is in an old Betty Crocker c.1961 cookbook, called Fluffy Meatloaf.

1 pound hamburger
half pound ground lean pork
3 medium slices bread torn in pieces with 1 1/4 cups milk OR 1 cup milk with 1 cup dry bread crumbs
( I take 4 old dry biscuits and put them in the Cuisinart work bowl and grind them up and then add 1 cup buttermilk)
1 beaten egg
1/4 cup minced onion
1 1/4 teasp salt.
1/4 teasp or Each of the following:
pepper, dry mustard, celery salt, garlic salt, dry mustard and sage.
1 Tlbs. Worchestershire sauce or some ties I put terriaki sauce

Bake 350 degrees for 90 minutes. Put some ketsup on the top the last 15 minutes.

I have always put strips of bacon on top of meatloaf, gives you the pork flavoring.

Did you,is the seasoning packet in with the dry bread? And...did you use the whole box? It sounds like a really good idea.

We still love the meat loaf recipe on the Lipton onion soup box. I use Panko breadcrumbs. We always go back to that recipe.

Instead of the ketchup in the meatloaf, I use salsa.

Sometimes I use rye bread, season with ground up dried mushrooms and dill and sub sour cream for the tomato sauce for a stroganoff flavored meatloaf.

Usually I just use whatever bread I have that's getting old. Biscuits, burger buns, dinner rolls, old saltines-doesn't matter it's all bread crumbs in the end.

I love meatloaf!! My mom use to make it when I was a kid. Ofcourse, when you grow up, you add your own twist to it! I am going to copy these meatloaf recipes and try them out!
